I mean.. as expected, really. I can’t deny Usman is very effective and in fairness, he is a formidable opponent.. but.. Colby fight aside, he has previous for these less than exciting fights. For me, that’s cool and all - But he sort of relinquishes his power to call for opponents/money fights. I expect he’ll drop GSP’s name here post-fight; however, if I were Dana White, I’d be looking to rebook the Burns match.

He could also drop a few pounds and challenge the LW champion. That would be a jawdropping matchup

I think he already said that Burns will fight the winner of this fight.
And fighters need to stop calling GSP out, it is cheap and he is retired for good

Yeah, Dana said that pre-fight although you know what he’s like with his fibs. That is actually a very fun matchup and I want it next. I didn’t like how Bisping and Anik mentioned Edwards post-fight and not Burns. I smell a rat with that, tbh. Let’s hope Burns and Usman gets made. Gilbert has the style to push Usman, make him uncomfortable and threaten him everywhere for the full 5 rounds.

He and Khabib won’t fight already been confirmed by both. They’re too close. Maybe if Gaethje beats Khabib but I can’t see Usman going down to LW anyway.

I have been following Burns for a while now, he has been coming along very nicely. Plus they are from the same gym so....

Went as expected really. Masvidal looked sharp at the start and it was pretty even, but Usman remained patient knowing he would gas and then control the fight.

It wasn't pretty or exciting but he did what he needed to remain champion.

Masvidal didn't get embarrassed and comes out of it looking even better. I'd like to see him get another shot after the Burns / Usman fight.

I have trained in Muay Thai for the past ten years and tried to transition a couple of years back into a more mixed discipline.

I couldn’t hack it, wrestling is a different world all together and as boring as that fight was last night. Kamara Usman is the real deal, he’s incredibly hard to beat.

You need to train ufc, mate, that's the best!

So I was kinda fading when Max vs Volk came on. Got to like the 4th and thought this is Max all day, it’s going to the judges so I’ll rest my eyes For a minute. However how the feck have they given that to volk. They need to sort the scoring. Max knocked him down twice in the first 2 rounds. If anything that should be 10-8’s. But nah let’s score the bit where I just lay on top of you for a bit whilst doing nothing higher. This is why people dislike wrestlers.

Looked like Aldo was feeling a kick to the liver before he decided to shoot and then just stay on the ground. There was a meaty kick that went in before that sequence and Aldo immediately dropped his hand to protect the liver. Then tried for the takedown so he could recover. Ate another shot there whilst on the ground.

Not ahead of Edwards, who if he fought would beat him down nice and easy. Masvidal is still riding the hype train, but feed him to real contenders and he'll do what he always does, lose.

He's somewhere between no 6-10. Any amount of trash talk won't change that.

Volk really grew in the last 2 rounds. Max really struggled to hit on target as probably he was starting to tire. To me, Volk winning by split decision is fair because at the end it was a really close fight, and just like the jones vs reyes, it seems that judges give the current champ the edge because that way contenders know they have to go all in at some point to get that belt which seems fair to me

Edwards wouldn’t be favored over Masvidal imo. Give both of them proper training camps and you would see a proper fight.

Jorge only had a week or so to prepare, drop a ridiculous amount of weight, travel half way around the world into a sauna, do loads of media appearances etc. and yet still managed a respectable performance against Usman. And despite the narrative that Masvidal “never stopped preparing for Usman” in the off chance that Burns may have had to cancel, there’s still nothing like a proper 6-8 week camp imo.

Kamaru likewise, fought as well as he could have given that he didn’t prepare for Masvidal until a week out. His strong ground game will make it next to imposition beat him, since most great strikers will now be more focused on defending take down his striking.

Go back to the RDA fight. You've clearly changed your thinking. Which is fine of course, if you see things differently.

I haven't. Jorge would lose the majority of times against Edwards, Wonderboy, Covington, Luque, Woodley and RDA.

Was too drunk to watch

I dozed off just after Paige VanZant lost and woke to hear there was 1 minute left in the Usman v Masvidal fight. Good job I recorded it!

Decent card. Max was robbed and Usman just neutralised Masvidal which wasn’t great entertainment but was smart by him.

Kamaru will never be a big star. He is too boring to sell PPVs. Last night only emphasised that.

When it comes down to it, Masvidal is still the much bigger draw.

The pre 2019 Masvidal may have struggled against some of them, but he’s clearly a different fighter now. Edwards has yet to really beat anyone imo. Going the distance against an ageing RDA and Cowboy Cerrone - both clearly well past their primes - is not enough to give us a clear picture of how good Edwards is.

Same as Woodley, although in Kamaru’s case, Dana seems to at least like him somewhat.

What did people make of Rose vs Andrade Kinda feel like I’d lean to Andrade on that one.

Can see a case for either as Rose was for the first few rounds boxing beautifully but then Andrade was making her miss a lot and rolling with the ones that did connect or was just out of range. When she hit Rose she did damage and hurt her a couple of times.

Judges score cards just do my head in. They really do need to make these judges ex fighters. Saying this looking for a career change and where do I apply? I presume you don’t need any qualifications at all for it.

I would think the fight vs Colby bought him some serious grace in terms of the bookings/selling. stood and banged and it was a hell of a fight which kinda made me want to watch this.

His other fights like his one against Woodley I have no interest whatsoever in watching. Would rather watch paint dry.

As for Masvidal I do think he is a bit of a hype beast and agree he’d most likely lose frequently against all the top guys 9 out of 10 times. However he is still capable of catching someone at any moment. Till was beating him till 1 sloppy moment and looked comfortable through out. Askren it’s just a lucky hit really, Nate is always going to stand and trade and is pretty much tailor made for someone like Masvidal. If he’d smashed Edwards, Colby, Burns Wonderboy and so on then yeah sure.

Till is the only competitive person of any note he’s beaten On his 3 match run to the title.

After watching the Usman v Covington fight again the other day, I think Colby could beat him in a rematch. The only reason the fight ended as it did was because Colby was carrying a broken jaw for most of the fight.

Was a close fight that could’ve gone either way imo. Rose’s shots are sometimes deceptively difficult to score because her movements are very graceful, which tends to undermine the perceived impact of her shots. In either case, I’m glad she won since she can now fight for the belt.

I’d love to see that again. As much as I think Colby is a dick the guy can fight and has some tolerance for pain to go as long as he did with broken jaw. He earned serious respect from me in that fight. I just wonder how long Burns will be out for or is cleared to fight.

Same. I went into the Usman fight hating Colby due to his antics, but came out of the fight thoroughly impressed with the grit and sheer tenacity he displayed against Kamaru, especially given the broken jaw. He’s a proper fighter.

I thought Max won that fight.

Usman has such a grating personality to go along with his boring fight style. It is impressive, and he is excellent, but that combo means that he will never be a fan favourite.

I feel bad for Max, because he won that fight, and although a Rose decision was fine, I though Andrade was fantastic in that 3rd round with the pressure on and possibly did enough to get the draw.

I don't mind wrestlers and them doing what they need to do to win, that's fine... But you can't chat the amount of shit Usman does and then not wrestle aggressively, like Khabib did v McGregor or Jones did v Gus2. Usman just wanted to stop mas fighting... That's fine. Don't chat so much shit then!

Apparently Masvidal was at the pharmacy buying Clear Blue Pregnancy Test this morning.

I've never really understood this sort of logic.

The champ shouldn't get extra protection, it's a 5 round fight and Max clearly won 3 of those rounds. The challenger shouldn't have to win 4-1 to win the fight and it's not like Volkanovski won the last 2 rounds 10-8 or something.

Holloway was robbed.

Correct, but the fight kept going for another 3 rounds and Covington actually went on attack during various stretches. He definitely came out of that far more impressive than most previously gave him credit for.

D’amato actually had Covington ahead on points going into the 5th, and Colon has it at 2 rounds each.

Agreed. It’s one of these things that seems to get factored into the judging because of tradition, and which winds up frequently costing challengers in the end.

Luke Thomas has it right on his post-show. If you can score a fight 49-46 Holloway or 48-47 Volkanovski, and both scores have merit, then there is something seriously wrong with the way they score fights.

It needs a serious overhaul.

Except he didn't "clearly" won 3 rounds, cmon

At the end of the fight, i really had no idea whose hand was about to get raised and the latin america ESPN pundits (2 UFC fighters and a fight sports journalist) where divided in their picks. I actually thought max could get the edge but i accept that it was a really really close fight

Max clearly won 1 and 2. I think AV won the first fairly decisively.

3 and 4 were extremely close. They could have gone either way. Personally I though Max won but it certainly was not robbery. I thought it was going to be a split decision.

Max should have kicked on after the 2nd. He didn't. He has the cardio. He could have easily won it.
