The MMA thread

Need to see how Ngannou deals with a good wrestler. Miocic has a good wrestling pedigree and had no trouble taking him and keeping him there. DC and Jones are, in my opinion, better wrestlers than Miocic. Ngannou with his swings, albeit a bit wild will have trouble against them.

Cain Velasquez and Curtis Blaydes says hi.

The Stipe fight is the blueprint for beating Ngannou. Francis came out with his usual wild swings and got beat by the more cerebral fighter who came in with a clear strategy and executed it. Someone like Jones with a multifaceted skills set has all the tools to do the same.

I don't think he does, which is to say there is no middle ground for him. He either gets them out early or gasses and gets humped for three or five rounds.

The Lewis fight is a weird one with Ngannou, he didn't look anywhere near the fighter he normally does, the Stipe fight clearly knocked his confidence massively. Stipe is probably the fight to judge him on but he could of improved his game since then, the problem is we don't know cos he's KOed every fighter early (he's fought less than 1 round of fight time in 2 years.) I think he's obviously a problem for anyone due to his KO power but from what we've seen he is pretty one dimensional everywhere else. You would think thought after the Stipe fight he'd improve otherr parts of his game.

Would be nice to hear Smith's corner accept some responsibility for not protecting their fighter as they should have. Particularly as the coach has form for this, having also failed to protect his fighter in the Gifford v Davis fight back in October.

Cruz said Smith was about to get up.

Fair enough. I like Jason. He fecked up (just like Anthony's corner) but he is owning it. Respect.

Yeah, I like him too. Doesn't get involved in the celebrity/media side of MMA to my knowledge and I like that in an active referree.

Anyone can make a mistake but you need to own it and make the necessary adjustments.

Fecking hell didn't even clock he was cornering Gifford, just rewatched that fight this morning. Was brutal.

Great fight, Elkins 2-1 for me. Don't be fooled by one guy being more prone to bleeding.

Not surprised but 30-27 is bullshit. Elkins definitely won round 1 and I thought he won round 3 but it was a toss up. Judges are too swayed by visible damage. Some guys just bleed easy, like the Diaz brothers.

Yeah had it the same, the 3rd could have maybe been a toss up I suppose but no idea how they gave Nate the 1st. Terrible judging.

Can only think it's because the cut happened in round one. Judging is so consistently bad in boxing and MMA. It's infuriating. Like they should know how to score a fight so much more than me sitting here with very little knowledge of the sport outside of being a fan.

Giga is mediocre. He's literally fighting a guy who looks like he could make flyweight here. Has no chance against any decent featherweight in my opinion. Rivera has a great chin, be interesting to see him at his natural weight class with a full camp.

Wouldn't go so far. Technically he is up there with the best of the division striking wise. He lacks volume and aggressiveness though. He is winning at least.

Respect to Rivera. Put a great fight on 48hours notice. Dana will pay the favor back with a favorable BW fight.

Yeah probably too much on my behalf to be honest. He's good but I just don't see him causing problems to the top tier if he can't finish such a smaller fighter.

What an event so far. These less stacked cards are always a bit more entertaining for fighting reasons imo. I wouldnt be surprised if Overeem does Harris in the first round but the fights prior to it make it.

I'm expecting Overeem to finish him, he's simply better, but you never know with HW. Tough position to be in for Overeem with how the UFC are marketing the fight, although I assume they have Walt's blessing for the content about his daughter. I think most people are rooting for Walt tonight but to be honest the fact that he is competing is already incredible considering the tragedy he has under gone.

A lot of the time it's these low key cards that end up some of the best events. Been some great fights so far!

Overeem is on one of those old contracts. He gets paid 850.000 for every fight, so don't worry, he won't be mad if Walt Harris beat him up.

I think he plays the good guy and let Harris have his day.

I'm worried for my homey, Chito. That Song Yadong is a killer.

I hope Chito can pull it off. Should be a banger of a fight anyway.

edit. Chito got fecking robbed.

Can anyone pm me a river? My usual is down. Thanks.

Edit: Just realized I'm joining this a bit late. Sounds like Barboza got a bit unlucky with the decision again.
