I would love to see them go again.

I think a peak Conor beats peak Khabib.

I think it would be a different fight and Conor has definitely shown the aptitude to learn and evolve from his previous mistakes (see Nate 2 v Nate 1). That said, he still wouldn't have any response to Khabib taking him down. Once that happens Conor, becomes helpless. Its like attempting to out box an Anaconda.

Poor auld Mighty Mouse not even figuring in the discussion these days. I miss having him in the UFC.

I would just love to see if he could in some way take his previous experience (which I though he did okay, he just got tired eventually) and try and adapt. The Nate comparison one is good, I watched them fights after getting into UFC and I though it was pretty impressive.

McGregor just fascinates me. I don't know what it is about him.

I know he's a Cnut, that's obviously well documented. I can't help wanting him to win for some reason. I guess that makes me a cnut too

Yeah, he was a mess and won round 3 and was on top in round 4 till he was stopped (if that makes sense)
He showed he had something for Khabib but I think it will take another weight bully to dethrone him

Whatever happens, Conor should definitely not get another title fight until he goes through one of Ferguson, Poirier, or Gaethje

Yeah I agree with that. What chance would you give Gaethje against Khabib?

I think Gaethje can beat Khabib. He's a superior striker, has a wresting background (very hard to take down), and is peaking at the moment. Stars may be aligning for an improbable win. Will be close though.

Yeah from what I've heard about him he's very good. I was very impressed with the Ferguson win after all the hype I have heard about Ferguson.

Certainly looking forward to seeing him and Khabib. Is there any ideas on a potential date yet?

September apparently.

September apparently.
Oh really, I was expecting closer to the end of the year. Good news if we go ahead!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Conor v Justin either with the sad news about Khabib's father being in bad condition.

I would love to see Conor v Volkanovski, even though I know Conor is probably incapable of dieting back down to 145

Ffs, McGregor is 1-1 at LW, with that victory against a pretty poor champion (let’s face it) in Alvarez. And 2-1 at WW against two journeymen (slightly harsh maybe) who spent their best years fighting at LW. Never defended his FW belt.

His run to the FW belt was great, but his record since Aldo (December 2015) is 3-2 and very average.

It's pretty obvious why Conor does stuff like this. Cos it gets people talking...I'm sure he knows he's not that high in the rankings but people always seen to get annoyed by him doing it. It'll have loads of fighter responses to it as well I bet. He's a lot of things but I don't think he is Lil Dicky in Dave and completely delusional.

Why isnt he? Not many clean out a division and actually moves up to take fights that are huge risks

He didn't clean out a division

He never defended a title

Since he moved up a weight he has won twice (once was a very close fight) lost twice (and got absolutely outclassed in one of them to an embarrassing level) and got the easiest fight imaginable against UFC's biggest bottle job.

There's plenty of fighters better than him, he could possibly argue he's Europe's best fighter in fairness to him but other than that I doubt many class him as one of the best, including himself.

Again he does it for people to talk about him and it works cos were doing it now! Nothing wrong with that always interesting conversation just find it funny people get worked up by it.

It's got to be GSP. The only issue I have with him is the Bisping fight. No disrespect to Bisping but GSP wins that fight 10 times out of 10. He avoided the tough fights in the welterweight division, bided his time, even moved up a weight class to carefully select an ageing champion as his opponent.
He hasn't fought since then yet talks of a comeback for the right opportunity/challenge. Khabib is the ultimate challenge, Conor was a few years back, Woodley was the challenge not Bisping. I know I'm being picky, I just like to see the best fight the best.

Also, one of McGregor's losses and wins were against Nate Diaz, who himself isn't exactly the best of the best. Eddie Alvarez was also arguably one of the weaker champions to beat. It all counts when judging the greatest of all time and McGregor's resume doesn't stack up when compared to the others'.

I don't know if it's a popular opinion but I don't think that McGregor has actually ever been clearly better than Gaethje currently is. McGregor is a great striker, one of the very best in UFC history but I don't think that he is that far from other great strikers which would be the only way to put him at the top, he isn't close to even average wrestlers.

Normally I'd say it's between him and GSP but the pendulum swing to GSP after all the drugs stuff with The Spider.

I don't think too much about it into it since it came after that horrific leg injury. Had it been at his peak, he wouldn't be in consideration, but I just saw it as a desperate attempt to get back in contention. That's assuming you mean the positives after the Diaz fight, as I'm not aware of any others.

He also never greased like GSP did. Kidding, of course.

He rinsed 145, lets be honest. Went up and won a title, won a few at 170 as well.
Look, I hate Conor as much as the next man but an avenged loss v Nate and a loss v the best 155 of all time doesnt diminish what he has done. He just doesnt win fights, he wins them in dominating fashion and usually in round 1 or 2 and against high calibre opponents.
Hes provided the most clean drug tests than any fighter in history, he isnt shit scared of losing like Jones who has looked like shit off the juice. He isnt content to weight bully like Khabib and actually face fighters without his usual advantages.
Honestly, I think he takes Tony and Justin at 155. When its all said and done there will be no top fighters he could, and should, face and the chance is there to ram home his accomplishments.
Im not saying hes the greatest ever but he is up there in that bracket.

He should have had a rematch against Max at 145, and if he's actually any good at 170, he should have fought somebody better than Cerrone or Diaz.

Max is gone imo. Theres no need to go over previous wins just in case he might lose this one

I think McGregor takes Gaethje although i can't see them fighting as there's no way Justin is getting past Khabib. Gaethje is in good form/confidence, but I don't think it will last. Similar to when Cody Garbrandt hit form a few years back and dominated Cruz. Although I hope I'm wrong as he's much more likeable than current Conor or Khabib.

Holloway had the record, the reputation, and the belt. It had potential for a long time but never materialised. Instead, Conor preferred to just remind everyone how he beat Holloway when he was about 21.

I agree with you on the lasting part, I don't see it either. I'm just focusing on their respective peaks, I don't think that there is much between them and I wouldn't say that McGregor lasted either, as others have said his resume isn't actually that big or impressive.

And I like McGregor a lot, he is fun to watch, extremely skilled, has a solid chin and pretty good takedown defense but in a GOAT conversation you need more title defenses, you need to be dominant for a longer period of time and/or dominate great fighters during their prime. There are too many things lacking at the moment but he is young and I wouldn't bet against him.

This is what makes Khabib such a fecking legend. He casually told everyone what he was going to do to Conor, then did it.
