The MMA thread

Not sure he'd be happy with just competing. He wants to be the Champion. Not only did he realise hell never beat Jones but he's lost 5 of his last 8 fights. His trajectory is going in one direction and its not up.

That's been one of my gripes about Gus. He's a bit of a softie who struggles to recover from losing (especially in Sweden). I remember him sobbing after Rumble TKO'd him a few years back and again tonight he seems to have let a loss at home, in front of all the Swedish fans, destroy him.

As for being a Champ, there's a good chance Jones will move up to HW, which would vacate the top of LHW for 4 or 5 fighters - Smith, Gus, Santos, Reyes, and maybe a new comer like Johnny Walker. Gus has come within a hair beating both Jones and DC, so he should be more than good enough to compete against the 5 I listed.

If I had to pick just one from each side it would be Adesanya and Rose. Both have a grace and poetry about their movements that is lovely to watch.

Rose improved so much. She looked lost in her first title shot, but now she is possibly the most technical female in the roster. Would be a shame if she retires.

That Jessica loss was a big fluke.

Who are yours most aesthetically pleasing fighters ?

I have always found the way Dominick Cruz moves and hits so good to watch, the master of cage control and footwork.

Others who come to my mind are Mcgregor with his striking selection and accurate timing, GSP's takedowns were perfectly timed, and Luke Rockhold is a beautiful mix of world class kick technique and ground and pound.

Nowadays I am naturally most excited about Adesanya, the way he throws these high kicks man, like in playstation.
The lack of love for Carlos Condit in here is worrying

His shot selection and combos are 2nd to none and that fight against Nick was a masterclass in footwork and controlling distance.

Wonderboy needs some love too as when he is on he is incredible to watch then you have the usual suspects like Connor, Silva,Valentina. There was also a girl in the TUF house who was a boxer. Wasn’t great at other aspects of MMA but honestly her boxing was so superior compared to everyone else she was making these girls look like bums. Footwork to die for.

@Andersons Dietician I wonder what's happening with Condit. He hasn't been himself in his last few fights, that footwork and distance control you mentioned are missing

About TUF, I have seen so many people look good in there and ultimately look bad in the UFC...perhaps one of the reasons people got so tired of watching it is the lack of development of it's players.

Wonderboy seems to be suffering from the same problem as Machida...once the speed is gone, that Karate stuff doesn't work the same. Just a few thoughts.

Anyway, you are right, thanks for joining in the fun!

True, although going in to the Damian Maia fight I started to worry when he was talking about his Jui Jitsu being really good and he wasn’t too worried if it went to the ground. Sure Carlos your Jijitsu is good but it’s not Damian Maia good pal. That Robbie Lawler fight as well will forever be :drool:

Forgot to add in Holloway as his boxing is again incredible and this new Aldo I just think he has looked a lot more technical and controlled since he fought McNuggets, and then Joanna and i’m Going to throw in Calderwood as no one blocks a punch or a kick better than her face. If only she could learn to slip or block

Fight for the number 1 contender spot to fight Valentina this weekend against Chookagin. Hopefully Calderwood gets it done then we can have a barn burner of a Thai fight for the title as Jojo will eat shots to land something.

I'm not sure Holloway's boxing is as effective at 155 like at 145. There seemed to be a power issue against Poirier, but he has time to improve on that.

Yeah man, there are some very good women's matchups happening lately, can't see Valentina losing, though there is always a chance to get Joshua'd.

Maaaaan that Henry Cejudo, you know the guy who won an Olympic medal. He be crazy!!!!

Although beating a Kicking a Micky mouse doll in to the crowd and then beating up a snake was kind of funny.

I think he's quite self aware with what he's doing, mainly because he doesn't come across as stupid as Colby and if that's the case, I'm ok watching him kick Mickey Mouse dolls into the crowd

Yeah he definitely plays up to it like the Olympic gold medal he's caught on to that now to. He's still ridiculously cringing I struggle to watch him in any of these things. Not watched a single embedded cos he's on it

Definitely doing it to garner interest, but I can't stand him. Knock him out Moraes!

Cerrone x Ferguson is definitely the one i'm looking forward to the most!

I'm high on Sterling and Yan, if they win hopefully they go against each other next.

Not sure what to make of the main event. Both guys are in their primes. Marlon has a size and power advantage, but I find Cejudo to be more technical. In MMA sometimes power is all it takes...

Nah Aljo v Munhoz should be a title eliminator

I'm a little nervous about Cerrone. This version of him is tougher, more focused. The way he dealt with Al was impressive. Still believe Ferguson is on another level, but this may be tougher than it would have been PB. :boring: Can't wait.

pb - pre baby

Daddy Cerrone to keep his undefeated streak.

Ferguson gets hit a lot and if he lets this go on too long, Cerrone has the striking to put him away.

Will also be tough to submit Cerrone, man's pretty good on the ground.

Ferguson's best bet would be to try flurry and pressure with the hope of getting Cerrone out of there early.

Seriously though. They want me to pay for a ppv that I probably can't watch live, die to work, so I can get back and watch it half a sleep. Sounds good!

BT Sports watchers now have to pay for the PPV events? That's bullshit if true.
Not that I’m aware of as I’ve set it to record the pre-limbs and main event tonight. If it’s coming in the future then bye bye BT as there is no point to it other than champs league and UFC.

Hopefully JoJo gets it done tonight then ends up in the ring for after Valentina vs Eye. She’d probably be too shy to call her out but make it happen Joe, make it happen.

@RedFish is that the actual fight order? Because Calderwood vs Chookagin is supposedly an eliminator for number 1 spot for 125lbs. I know Chookagin is a bore but surely that should be higher than some of those other fights. Some of your weights are wrong there mind.

Interesting card - not the best, but not the worst either. Looking forward to the El Cocoohy v Cowboy fight.

239 is PPV
thats crazy. I already pay around £30 a month for BT (HD and multiroom pack) and now they expect people to pay what probably £14.50 or 18.99.(sky boxing prices) to watch UFC? Absolute joke.
Between Sky, BT, Netflix and Amazon Prime I must spend a fortune on just watching stuff.

Think Ferguson's knees are in for a tough time of it tonight. We'll see if he's fully healed because Cerrone absolutely won't let up.

I really, really, don't like Cejudo. Not very likeable person. What the feck was the screaming and shaking at the end there?
