Lines are being crossed from 'show' to real here and that's more the issue than anything, I think. There's real intent and bad mindedness behind the actions that can incite riots and I bet there'll be some issues between Irish and Russian fans in Vegas tonight off the back of this. I think the UFC love the WWE stuff, to a degree, but once if goes beyond a certain point, they have to be seen to act and make examples of people. Khabib might be a great in the ring, but he's not a cash cow the organisation will back indefinitely like a Jones, Brock or Conor.
You're bringing the sport into disrepute as its champion, and representative, at the peak viewership it has ever seen in front of a worldwide audience. This isn't the same as stupidity on a personal level, which, first and foremost is for the police to deal with. Although, you could well argue that criminal charges and considerations should be brought against Khabib and his entourage for such stupidity, just as they were for Conor with his dolly idiocy.
You can get away with far more pre-fight than post fight - you see fighters do a lot of dumb shit at face-offs and conferences that would be DQ-worthy post fight. It's not right, but literally everyone in the sport knows what the deal is with it, which is why we do not see mental post-fight actions unless a fighter really has lost his mind.
acting being the operative word. He'll be figuring out how to monetise everything that has happened tonight. There'll be losers from the fallout, Dana and crew won't be one of them.
