Not sure what DC is complaining about. Gus would be the top contender in the division and if DC says he has no plans on fighting at LHW then the Gus - Volkan fight should've been for the belt (before both got injured).

I think his problem is Gus is massively entitled for someone who lost both (arguably 3) biggest fights he been in. He talks shit to fighters like Rockhold the day after being KOed, he talks shit to DC knowing he can’t fight then someone calls him out after a decent KO and he’s injured again. He just comes across as someone also massively entitled for someone who never actually fights. I used to like him to but he does himself
No favours

Gus was asking for an interim title, and DC has stated that he would defend his belt al LH before the big show against Lesnar. Gus requested that DC should relinquish his belt if DC wouldnbt fight at 205 again. Gus is also the number one contender at 205, so its a tricky and messy situation. DC beat all of the contenders but he wont do the rematch because of lack of PPV's it would do (the rematch with Gus). DC is going to retire in March, so the only option here is that Gus fights until march, keeps his number one spot and the belt will be relinquished to him in march.

I'd have to agree with Gus' position on this one. I'm so sick of fighters thinking they can hold divisions up just so they can make their appointments pursuing other fights in other divisions. DC probably thinks he can get another wack at Jones, but that shouldn't hold anything up since that fight could take place at heavyweight as well.

In fairness though Gus hardly eve fights (once a year if that) so it would also be reasonable of him to fight fairly regularly before demanding title shots

On the other hand, he has done better than anyone against Jones and DC. A number of people thought he actually beat Jones and DC barely escaped with a split decision. Based on those two alone, I think Gus has earned the right to speak up about getting another wack at the belt. If DC is planning on retiring next spring, then its unlikely he will have enough time to fight two more times since his hand is injured now and Jones may not be back before then.

The Jones fight i believe is not going to happen. DC is retiring within 8 months and Jones most likely will get a minimum of 1 year suspension unless he will miraculously be charged innocent which is very unlikely to be fair. Also, Lesnar is eligible to fight in januari, so that will be DC's last fight. The one fight before that was planned to be Shogun but he lost yesterday so DC will likely chose another 'low risk' fight at 205- it would be legendary however if Jones would be free from charges and a fight with DC at HW would occur before the Lesnar fight.

In regards to your point about fighters holding their division up. I agree totally. Conor had a 2 year inactivity before they made the Ferguson Khabib fight title fight (short term replacemen Al Liquinta). That division was a mess. Bisping also cherry picked his fights but GSP showed class by dropping the title soon after his heroic performance. Have i forgotten any other fighter who held up his/her division? DC had a legitimate cause with the Stipe fight and made history but fighters these days want the money fights but they themselves are not a PPV attraction.

The UFC has a lack of stars and they hoped that Colby Covington would be the new draw but UFC 225 and his fight against Dos Anjos didnt do very well in numbers. Without Conor, Nate, Nick, & GSP they dont have any PPV stars. Lesnar's return is a blessing for them.

True fair comments he did get the DC fight coming off a loss though so has had his fair share of favours in the past.

I agree with your point DC shouldn’t have the title and be won’t defend it again I don’t think he could make the weight I just don’t like how bitter Gus is coming across in all of this in all honesty just isn’t a good look for him. Get back in the cage and earn the title Dc or no DC

Actually making weight is not a problem for DC- as he stated/ he only weighs 205 one day in the year and that is during the weigh ins.

He has two fights in him with the last one against Lesnar. DC showed intrest in fighting Shogun at 205 for his next fight, but that is unlikely now considering that Smith beat Shogun yesterday in Hamburg.

I'm shocked that a has been like Shogun would even be entertained as a possible fight for DC at this late stage of Shogun's career. It would be about as farcical as Bisping fighting Dan Henderson while the rest of the division wait for the money grabbing to subside and regular order to be restored.

Feck off Okamoto. Hardly a huge fight since they've already fought and are now sort of past their peaks.

Still a nice fight. The winner gets (probably) his last chance for the middleweight belt, before the likes of Stylebender and Borrachina take over very soon. Id like for Weidman to get his revenge though.

ps. Agree they both past their prime. I would offer this two to Bellator in exchange for Mousasi.

I'd watch it- the problem with the middleweight division is that there is no clear contender. Weidman was on a tree fight losing streak before he won his last fight against Gastelum and still managed to rank 4th. They are trying to feed new contenders for Whitaker.

Romero fought Chris and Luke and won both. Jacare lost his last fight against Gastelum ranking him 5th and Gastelum is on a two fight winning streak and now the title contender against Whitaker. Weidman beat Gastelum so i can understand his position of wanting the title shot.

They need fresh blood in that division and Israel 'stylebender' Adensaya is now making some noise with a 3-4 winning streak and beating a top 10 fighter in Tavares recently.

I don't know if they are though.

Weidman lost 3 in a row to 3 of the best (Rockhold, Romero and Mousasi) it's hardly shameful, he was doing alright in all 3 fights as well it wasn't like he was outclassed. He made a stupid mistake in the Rockhold fight with that weird spinning kick, he was probably 1-1 in rounds with Romero before getting a massive knee to the face as well.

Rockhold has lost 2 of his last 3, 1 to Bisping which is a pretty freak result and I'm sure you've said the same yourself and again to Romero who is a killer (and missed weight in fairness to Luke.) I quite like the fight it frees up the division nicely as well as Jacare vs. Branch as it will give us some more clear contenders after Whittaker vs. Gastelum.

I'm sure it will be a good fight. Just not the same hype or intensity as it would've had a couple of years ago.

True.

I reckon Weidman might take it this time. It should headline a fight night card in my opinion though give it potentially 5 rounds instead of 3....unless they give them the infamous interim belt treatment.

The fight will really get juices flowing. I think this might be a passing of the torch moment.

yeah man. 12 wins, all finishes. Never reached 3rd round in a fight (and everyone knows Yoel's best comes at round 3). So yeah, hard to bet against Borrachina, who comes with all the momentum.

But on the other side, the freak of nature can finish the fight any given moment. Not worthy to over analyse this one, just take a seat and enjoy the clash.

meh. Not a fan of fast tracking feckers up, specially after missing weight and being gifted a decision. Till needed at least one more fight against a Top fighter to prove he can make weight and his worth.

Madness. What a chance for Till. With 25 years of age he could become the youngest UFC welterweight champion? Coby either chickened out or he has a legit injury- that fight was building up nicely with all the trashtalking between them. Till doesnt bring anything new which Woodley hasnt seen before. KO power he has seen with Lawler. Pressure he has seen with Wonderboy. Height disadvantage did he experience too in Condit. Massive chance for Till, who they have been pushing hard since his win over Cowboy.

What a fecking joke of organization. Please GOD let Till be knocked out unconscious.

Anyway, fight time. Contender series starting now.

18 year old Phenom Chase Hooper next! lets see...

Hoopers ground game was seriously slick.

Doesn’t look like he’ll ever knock someone out but impressive none the less.

Hughes was okay, dominant first round win.

Sodiq Davis was a great fight though, well worth a watch.

I’ve enjoyed some of these contender series episodes more than a few full cards this year.

Jeff Hughes, Sodiq Yusuff and Jim Crute got contracts. The 18yo Hooper got into the development program in the performance institute.

Nick Newell was pretty good fun tonight. He is not UFC level sadly.
