Looked to me like Kelvin underestimated him. Seemed like he just wanted to blast him out of there, which is what I thought he'd do. Weidman fought smarter, and did it well. Even Kelvin's corner said something along the lines of " Show him some respect".

Damn, I thought Gastelum would destroy him.
He nearly did after decking him at the end of round 1. If that happened about 30 seconds earlier, he may have had enough time to finish him off.
True, I said out loud, "no way are fecking beating Gastelum, here we go" but then he managed to scramble and got saved by the bell. Ah well, it is what it is.
Good for Weidman to get back to winning ways quite like him me and his last 3 fights have been against top opponents. Bit premature to call out Bisping though suppose it doesn't hurt trying!

I don't think that is Gastelum's weight class. He's caught in a tricky situation, too small for this weight class, too big for the lower one. Looked like his game plan was simply to land the knockout punch, at this level you need more than that. He got close in 1st round, but you need more weapons against top level fighters. Weidman looked ok, he seemed very emotional at the end, maybe finally getting a win, and fighting in front of his hometown got to him. He and his corner responded very well to the knockdown, neither panicked. Be interesting who he fights next.
I dunno if he's to big for welterweight really or it was just a lack of discipline. I'd admit it's a tough cut for him but he's no way near big enough for MW. All current not over the hill MWs beat him easily just due to the size difference most the time. I reckon he could be a a top level contender at WW with his power. I'd say he would benefit from a weight class inbetween WW and MW really but there isn't one unfortunately and therefore to be a top contender I'd guess he has to drop down again.
I see Gastelum's best weight at MW not WW. It will be easier for him to bulk a bit and not have to worry about making WW weight cuts. He does however need to work on his ground game otherwise the likes of Romero will eat him for lunch.

Yeah I'm the same. I like DC as well, good fighter and seems a nice guy on top of it but I just prefer watching Jones and DC won't be around for much longer I'd guess. I know he is obviously a dick outside the Octagon but inside it he's brilliant so I do hope he wins and maybe moves up to HW as he's basically cleared out the LHW division (especially if he beats DC again)
Surely these cuts are gonna take a toll on DC soon as well? I know people have said it for a while but he honestly looks like death on fight week and at his age it can't be getting any easier, he already missed weight for the Rumble fight if it wasn't for a towel as well.

I'd still like to see a rematch between Jones and Gus, that's the only real question mark over Jones entire career. I think a Jones win against DC could also tempt Johnson to come out of retirement, would still love to see that happen. Outside of those two though, I'd have no problem with Jones moving up, would make for some interesting fights.

This is a good watch if got a spare half hour. I'm not Helwanis biggest fan but do like listening to most fighters in settings like this and D.C. Comes across well as always.
How come nobody is factoring ring rust in for Jones and acting like he's exactly the same fighter he was 2-3 years ago. Especially so since he looked average at best in his last fight before the 2nd lay off?

I think the OSP fight is a bit hard to criticize him for. He breezed that fight in reality and yeah it wasn't a great performance by Jones standard but he really did dominate also got to factor in he was preparing for a completely different fighter which will affect his performance.
I used to be right behind DC until that debacle against Anderson. He could at least have given the crowd 30 seconds of stand up but he made it arguably the most boring ufc fight of all time.

Lawler looked legitimately bothered that he had to be there. Playing down the magnitude of the situation, I guess. Fully expect him to show up with his usual ferocity tomorrow night though, especially for his first three-rounder in quite some time.
Hope Jonny Jones isn't expecting to make light work of DC, it's imperative that he isn't complacent, coming off a lengthy layoff.
