The MMA thread

Maybe she actually is a hot, likeable sweet chick?

Open workouts are often kind of relaxed. Fighters don't seem to take them overly seriously.
Maybe people give too much thought to what fighters are like when they are not fighting.

Just punch someone in the face, ffs.

Those event are organised so the fans can meet the fighters and see them have fun

That's the point

Well not really.

They are arranged for fighter to show off their fighting shape to the media and talk shite about their opponent. Anything outside the fight hype is just self promotion.

You're kind of criticising your own post as you are clearly giving thought as to what she's like when she's not fighting. I.e. you think she's a try hard and goes around trying to be hot and fun.

I don't know ins and outs of UFC contracts but from what I can gather they are contractually obliged to do this stuff. One fighter said it in the Embedded series and said it's a bit of a pointless workout so they just try having a bit of fun with the fans whilst doing it.

There's no harm in having fun with people. She'll be trying to punch someone in the face tomorrow (although I reckon she'll lose to be honest.)

Not really, I was being I'm being criticsed for pointing out how irrelevant the dance is in the scope of fight week and how she's trying to push her popularity.

It's just forcing the whole "sweet girl nextdoor who likes a scrap" thing down our throats, like they've been doing ever since she got here.

Its fine if fans want to buy into it or get off on it, I just think it embarrassing watching them find ways to sell it.

Each to their own I suppose. People pushing their popularity or trying to get more exposure and more money doesn't bother me in the slightest. Fair fecks to her or the UFC for finding a market for her and making the most of it. I've never really got people who criticise fighters for furthering themselves. Like I said though each to their own and you're perfectly entitled to your opinion.

Hopefully the card is good as there's a lot of decent fights on there I think. Agree with @Randall Flagg that Gall vs. Northcutt should be good. Interesting fight that one.

In terms of ability DJ probably is the best given that the general standards of MMA have improved with each new generation of fighters. By the time his career is finished he could well be generally acknowledged as the greatest ever.

That said, he still has a lot to prove to reach that point, dominant though he's been thus far. I would kill to see a DJ/Cruz rematch at this point. If he were to win that.....

Feck sake, you lot are fun at parties I bet. A girl who does something character wise that makes her stand out from the heap (which is a pretty positive thing in this sport) and may or may not move on to something else later, and she gets shit on. Why? Because she's not serious enough? I don't understand the hate.

To be fair, PvZ could put out a video of her watching paint dry and I'd still watch it, so you know. I'm biased.

feck me @MannyB can't be happy with that weigh in!! ;)
:wenger: Wheres Joanna Jedjejek when you need her?

Oh calm down, you blouse. I was half messing and I certainly don't hate her...

Didn't even know it was on, but McGregor has won Irish sport personality of the year award

Let's just say the reception has been mixed. Irish media will be fun next week, not sure I will be able to bear it

Fight night layout is always a mess.
Why cant they keep the clean layout that their ppv always have? Im sick of seeing the same videos of fights thats not even up next

Retiring while still more than good enough to beat most in his division

Probably a good idea

Pickett should have hung them up 2 years ago

That trash talking  Mainly Cody, who is terrible. Cruz pretty much destroyed him.

Cody also said to Cruz "who have you ever beat" before suddenly realising Cruz went through Team Alpha Male

 He was so bad at it. Cruz says his tie makes Cody look like PeeWee Herman.
Cody pretty much replies... "well yeah, look at your tie, its also bad"
Oh dear.

That was proper WWE. Cruz mocking Garbrand tie and telling him he looked like Pee Wee Herman. Garbrand then cursing on national TV.

Didn't realise Gall was training with Tri Star

Sage trained with them for a couple of months not long ago and it ended badly

Surely a big advantage for Gall
