The MMA thread

TBH, they can blame Jones for that. Womens match as third from main event would have been fine. Jones vs Cormier as main event would have been better than Cormier vs Silva.

Edit: Also Brock and WWE benefited the most from the night lol.

If Holm beats Shevchenko in two weeks, I can see a Holm v Nunes title fight at MSG later this year, especially since Zingano lost tonight and is out of the picture.

Pretty poor show in the end. Aldo vs. Edgar was probably the best fight and thought Brock looked good considering it was his first fight in 5 years. Tate did seem to bottle it completely and it kind of killed the fight. Still think it was a strange decision to put it as the main event, literally every other fight on the card was more interesting.

Brock got paid $2.5million for that fight as well apparently, so despite what has been said in here I guess the UFC still think he's a huge draw. I'd be surprised if he didn't fight again after that as well.

Bisping vs. Henderson is a shit fight, something you'd expect in boxing.

Nothing has changed my opinion that Ronda will still destroy every fighter in this division (bar possibly Holm and even then I think she'll get her win back if they fight again). It's absolutely wide open without Ronda there.

Cormier fight went exactly how I expected with him comfortably controlling Silva, can't blame him at all for that though.

Brilliant to see Lesnar back. Wasn't huge action but was still excited throughout simply because of the feeling that Hunt could land a huge bomb at any moment and finish it, which kept the excitement up.

Gutted for Zingano, massive loss for her.

Bisping/Henderson for the title is ridiculous but I'd love to see Bisping get his revenge, not a fan of Henderson either so that'd make it even sweeter. Should never be fighting for the title though, bizarre.

I agree re Ronda. It's anyone's title without her, with her she beats everyone except Holm would be a tough fight. I still think she loses that mainly due to her apparent stubborness to admit fault in any of her game, I think that would go the exact same way. Dana didn't look to happy with the result either.

I'm in 2 minds re Cormier, I do sympathise him and wouldn't boo but then it was a huge disappointing fight. He's fighting a guy who hasn't won in 4 years, isn't in his weight class, had 2 days notice and is past his best. Any time the fight got exciting Cormier stopped it and nulified the action. In defence of the fans it was a disappointing fight. The first 2 on the main card ended in a 1st round KO and then probably the fight of the night after it. They've probably had a lot to drink and therefore will be more vocal. Equally 9 times out of 10 a crowd is always going to be in Anderson's favour especially when he looked like he wanted something to happen.

Bisping Henderson is shit but apparently they want it in Manchester so I'll try and go I think despite slating it about 10 minutes ago! Seems they're doing it to grow the presence of UFC in UK, give their only English champion an easy fight in his home country then feed him to Jacare or someone when he is back in the sdtates.

Tate got absolutely destroyed. Lesnar v Hunt was predictable, DC versus Anderson Silva was shocking and you could tell by the crowds reaction they were not happy with DC either sitting on Silva or holding him against the cage.

Best fight on the main card was Aldo v Edgar. Cant wait to see Mcgregor v Aldo again. This is Mcgregors' weight. Think he made a mistake going up and expect him to be punished again at UFC202

Congrats to Bork Lazer, thought Marku Hunto would knock his block off. DC v Anderson was a wet fart, unsurprisingly so as DC would've being stopped had he stayed on his feet with Anderson. Aldo/Edgar was fun. Tate bottled it against Nunes. She's usually good under pressure. Was shocking to see her get dismantled like that.

Obviously this fight means a lot to McGregor as it dictates his next opponent (after Diaz) but I do like how into the event Conor gets. You could see him up in the Claudia and Joanna fight as well and obviously during TUF he was hugely into it as was evident by the fact he was sweating buckets throughout.

The fight vs. Aldo will be interesting if it hapens, can't right either of them off. Once Aldo settled vs Edgar he won it easily which shows his class but obviously McGregor has the big win vs. Aldo and can't write him off. Looking forward to it assuming it happens.

Brock the legend! Won me a nice bet.

I thought Aldo look terrific, that's the best he's been in years. Would love see the Mcgregor rematch.

Bisping vs Henderson in Manchester. I'm happy with that can actually see a title fight in the UK. :D

Great win for Lesnar. If he can go on to defeat Randy Orton at Summerslam, I think he will deserve a shot at the UFC heavyweight title.

Disappointing fights overall. Impressed by Lesnar given how long he's been gone though.

I've been telling you all Amanda Nunes is coming for the belt for a long time. She is fecking fierce these days. I like Miesha a lot but I thought there was always a good chance she could get demolished here. Amanda is a bad match up for her. The fighter with the best chance against her is Holm. She'd ride out the storm and win a decision in the championship rounds imo. I think Nunes probably beats Ronda too but wouldn't bet big on it.

Card kinda sucked overall. Alvarez' performance on Thursday and the Joanna-Claudia fight from Friday were the highlights of the week.

Tate got destroyed! I'm not exactly upset by that fact. Bit of a rock paper scissors situation in that division now.

Silva-DC was frustrating, DC just shut it down every time it got some way interesting, I mean fair enough he has to win but still.

Think McGregor will be happier fighting Aldo than Edgar to be honest. Hopefully he can surprise me against Diaz but I doubt it.

Lastly Brock Lesnar. I was impressed with him, given how long he's been out. If he's gonna fight again he needs to do some work but he was impressive all the same. Impressed with how he spoke afterwards too, which is worth mentioning. Very mature IMO.

Next round of logical fights:

HW - Cain v Miocic/Overeem winner

LHW - DC v Teixeira/Rumble winner

MW - Bisping v Jacare

WW - Lawler/Woodley v Thompson

LW - Alvarez v Khabib

FW - McGregor v Aldo

BW - Cruz v Garbrandt

FLW - Mighty Mouse v Reis

Women's BW - Nunez v Holm or if Holm loses to Shevchenko, Nunez v Pena

Women's SW - Jedrzejczyk v Namajunas

Agree with most of those but Garbrandt is still a few fights away. He's only just making his name really. Think Dillashaw rematch makes the most sense. It was an incredibly tight decision last time and they've both picked up a win since. No one else really stands out at the moment.

Nunes is the type of fighter that Ronda runs through all day long. I'd be shock to see it go any other way than clinch, hip toss take down, armbar. I'd agree on the Holm part, I think she beats Nunes if they fight. Expect her to beat Shevchenko later this month and then Dana has the choice of Holm, Pena or Rousey (if she's willing to return this year that is, she's getting an immiediate title shot when she returns) as the first challenger for Nunes. If it's any of those then I'm expecting a new champion for the fourth time in a row in this division.

I didn't mind the card personally, I think the expectations were so high that some feel disappointed. It wasn't as great as it looked on paper but still a good show. None of the fights were bad apart from maybe DC/Silva and that was more down to styles and the situation created by Jones being pulled two/three days before the show.

Nunes is a pretty high level black belt in BJJ with great takedown defence and strong as an ox. I don't see Ronda getting an armbar that easily. Nunes' major weakness is cardio so that's always a potential route to victory against her. Which is why I think Holm is her worst match up, a top class defensive striker with cardio for days. Of course Ronda can win but it all depends on how she comes back. If she has a good gameplan then she should be able to wear her out with some grappling and grab a submission in the later rounds. If she comes out with a bullrush, Nunes is the hardest hitter in the division (apart from maybe De Randamie) so it could end up being another bad night for her.

I thought about Dillishaw but that fight is still a bit fresh in the memory of most fans who may want to see an alternative, up and comer get a chance against Cruz, then Dillashaw gets the winner of that.

It's true when they say styles make fights. I still believe that McGregor would fair much better against Dos Anjos or Alvarez as opposed to Diaz. Feel the latter will be his kryptonite, whereas I could see him KO'ing both the aforementioned, yet I couldn't see Nate beating Dos Anjos.

Fight card for Madison Square Garden. One can dream!

I got BT/setanta or now Eir sports free by going to the eir website then clicked on Free Sports clicked on the SKY tv customers section lobbed in my sky viewing card details along with a few other details and bang. 6 sports channels free.

I presume you need broadband for that.

I presume you need broadband for that.

Eir broadband customers only. I forgot to mention that.

I got a great deal off them there on Friday after seeing an ad on the telly. Unlimited superfast fibre broadband, Essential Eirvision TV pack (55 channels) plus all BT/Setanta now Eir sports and all in HD which is great for the UFC and the football too. 60 mins or something on the landline as well but I never plug that in so not really bothered anyways 50 euro for all that for 12 months, 70 euro thereafter. I told some lad called Gerald from Sky to do one.

I'm not sure if I could do without Sky Sports.

I can't believe Tate gave up so easily...yeah she got tagged a bit but that choke wasn't sunk in at all...maybe it was a bit of a neck crank? She talks too much shit to be going out like that. That wasn't the Tate we saw v Holm.
