Why did anyone thing Cerrone would win this ? RdA is one of the best fighters around.
I guess it was wishful thinking for the Cowboy vs. McGregor build up. I bet Conor is going to announce that he's staying at 145 tomorrow

By the way, watching the Connor highlights.

The left he hit Aldo with, is very similar to the Machida bread and butter left cross he knocked everyone out with. Connor stands in the pocket and the moment you throw a right, he steps in and throws a straight left. That is EXACTLY what Machida did. Their stances are even similarly wide. Machida is more lunging because of his karate base, but the technique is basically the same. Sit on the right, step in and throw the straight left up the pipe.

Even the karate kid wax on wax off guiding pawing the right hand away is the same.

In my opinion, I'm quite fond of Robbie Lawler, RDA, Cowboy (to an extent), Holly Holm, Frankie Edgar, Lyoto Machida, Joanna Jfsdfdfdjksbk and Alex Gustafson. But each to their own...

For my own, I'd remove RDA and add Rory Macdonald and Meathead.

Why do you think I am bitter?

That was arguably the biggest fight in years, and it ended in the way that it did. If you think they fought 1000 more times, how many times do you think either guy would win via KO in the first 20s? What exactly did you learn about these two guys in that fight?

I've said, I'm not a fan of McGregor, nor am I a fan of Aldo.

I'm sorry your understanding of combat sports is so shallow, but I spoke the truth. Getting caught cold in the first seconds of a fight while decisive, is hardly telling. That's the truth. I want to see them go at it again, sooner rather than later. If McGregor does it again, then it isn't just catching him early, which can happen to anyone. Then it's a trend and it's telling.

Bitter about the outcome, well I guess in a manner, I'm disappointed that the fight was over in seconds. Not over the outcome. I thought Aldo would win, but I didn't actually care who won.

RdS certainly makes the move up to 155 more daunting. If Conor were to move up and lose, he would be in an odd limbo of not being able to do a rematch and would also have given up the 145 and forfeited another go with Aldo. Best to do the Aldo rematch for one final 145 fight, and if he wins, it would give him more momentum of having beaten the best pound for pound fighter twice, at which point moving up would be essential.

Tell us what did you learn from 13 seconds?

Are you going to wax lyrically about how we saw how McGregor took the best Aldo had, out classed him and then knocked him out? Even though that isn't what happened? Your bias is showing.

I mean, I get it. You're Irish. He's Irish. What exactly do you have to be excited about other than him? I'll give you a pass on being nonsensically biased, blind and overly excited. Enjoy yourself, between potatoes and second rate whiskey everyone knows you deserve it :)

Don't be silly. McGregor has shown that beyond a shadow of a doubt he would knock Aldo out in 13s every single time they fight. He's THAT good...

Huh?

Being a Yank we dont really get the whole English and the Irish thing.

Maybe you saw my post about Raoul's "outlier" comment?

I laugh and you're mystic nucks who knows all about me?

Last time i saw something as good as Conor it was Liddell KOing his way to the belt. Conor is better.

You're in a thread packed with Irish people in a forum packed with Irish people yet you somehow managed to direct that at an American. Well done.

Why you mad though?

JdS is done imo. Can't really climb back from losing to Alastair with all the others like Orlowski, Cain, Werdum, and now Overeem in the mix.

McGregor should consider a match with Nate Diaz if he's hellbent on moving to 155. Nate/Conor would be an easy fight to sell for Dana.

The UFC will have that fight eventually but with both UFC New York and UFC 200 coming up they'll want the super fight between McGregor and dos Anjos first.

That would be very risky imo. If Conor loses he would be in a strange predicament of not having anything to show for himself, since he would almost surely lose the 145 belt as well since UFC would not want to not have a 145 title fight for that long. Best case scenario would be an Aldo rematch, which despite the spectacle of a 3rd Aldo / McGregor hype up might seem tedious, would from a fight perspective make the most sense. If McGregor beats him twice then the chapter is closed forever. If Aldo wins, then much like Aldo/Mendes 1, the first McGregor/Aldo will be viewed as a one off and a rubber match will be in the cards.

Nah, McGregor is pretty much calling the shots now.

Reckon he'll fight dos Anjos in New York and return to feathweight to defend his title versus Edgar for UFC 200.

Ariel Helwani called it spot on last night when he said McGregor is pretty much a belt now or nearly bigger than a belt, you've fighters everywhere vying for a shot against him. Nobody has taken the UFC by storm like this.

He's in a strange place now. Prior to the Overeem fight only Cain had ever beaten him in the UFC. With how inconsistent Overeem has been since coming to the UFC I honestly expected JDS to run through him here. Interested to see who they match him up with next. Despite being pretty dominant in the UFC he finds himself in a strange position now.

Arlovski is possibly looking at a title shot if he beats Miocic, would be tough to deny him one after 5 straight wins if he beats him, so would possibly rule out a fight with JDS. Barnett is fighting Rothwell in January, I'd take a Barnett/JDS fight although not convinced they'll book that. Browne is also fighting next month against Mitrione, another two JDS has never fought. I'm not convinced he's completely done though because despite last night I still feel he'd beat the majority of the HW division still. I'm genuinely surprised he lost this fight and even more so in the fashion that he did.

I was reading around on MMAfighting and MMAJunkie and am shocked at how many people don't like RDA? He seems to be a really down to earth guy. Works hard, a family man, no bullshit talker, just goes in and does his job and does it really well. This is the kind of guy people should aspire to rather than mock him for being boring. It's these fans that make outsiders perceive UFC as equivalent to WWE. I don't mind all the smack talk and hyping a fight but I'm just as interested in a good fight if there is no smack talk...

Secondly, why do people insist that RDA must be on PEDs or something? Just because he improved with age must mean he is taking drugs? He came in as a Jiu Jitsu fighter and trained hard on his striking and pretty much took the sport very seriously and is the fighter he is today... are people saying it's impossible to improve? He's never failed a drugs test and even with this strict eye on drug-testing now he still looked beast. People just need to give credit where it's due.

RdA is a normal fighter - no special hype, prays to Jesus etc. We are now in a world where McGregor and his WWE hype schtick reign supreme, so fighters who don't participate are always likely to be perceived as a bit boring. I rate RdA in the top 5 pound for pound at the moment.

His face is nothing but scar tissues at this point. Think he's psychologically fecked.
