The MMA thread

So according to your logic, why isn't Rhonda Rousey #1 on the pound-for-pound list? She's been inarguably more dominant in her fights than anyone else on that list. My whole point is that the UFC included her on that list for their own marketing reasons.
It's not all about dominating your divsion. You have to factor in her weak division but her excellent grappling and sub game puts her up there.

I'm not Conor's biggest fan due to him running his mouth but I have some new found respect for him. He simply backed it up in the cage.

Same for Rory MacDonald even though he lost. Heart of a champion, hope he'll work his way up to win the belt eventually.

Yes, agreed on both counts. The interview Conor gave after the right was extremely classy. Incredible respect for MacDonald as well.

Hopefully the prelims improve. Even it was all knockouts, I feel like I would be disappointed just because of how good 189 was.

Absolutely. It will take a special night to equal ufc 189. Hopefully we get good news when they announce the UFC 191 card (Anik has some news to share about that it seems)

edit. As for tonight, we will have some good fights in the main card i think.

holy shit!!

MIR wow! what a KO!

his lefty again... (Duffy kept running onto it)

Werdum vs Mir would be nice next

The main card was fantastic (except for the women)

El Cucuy is so talented and crazy, but feck its annoying he don't finish his fights. He is like a lion cub playing with a baby gazelle.

He runs his mouth to make money and sell the fight. He always shows nothing but respect afterwards. He is making huge money for the UFC and they love him for what he can do.

After reading most the comments from the night I'll leave this here.

Fantastic video. :D

EDIT: Max Holloway spitting truth on UFC 189.

"Doesn't matter if his training camp is 10 days or 100 days body shots can change a man."

In regards to last night, I didn't see the event but holy feck, what a renaissance from Frank Mir. KO'ing Bigfoot isn't impressive, but KO'ing Todd Duffee is some feat. Whan you take into fact that Mir looked a bloated mess at the weigh-ins I'm impressed.

The guy who made that video is an uber raging thundercnut.

Did he have to put the shitty music at 10 times the volume of the talking.......
He can't be older then 15, as shown by his argument that Mendes was in shape to fight

That's about as much power on a punch as you can get. Duffee ran into it, out cold on the mat.

Mir's left hand doesn't slip at all, it hits, transfers all the force instantly and then just sits there, as still as a rock.

Duffee is downright awful. Mir was right in his post fight interview when he spoke about not showing his technical side which he does possess and just stooping to the other guys level and getting into an out and out brawl. Great knockout though but a laughable standard of fight.

It really was awful, but I was impressed with Mir's mentality. Usually he starts to fold under any kind of sustained striking pressure.

So far, UFC 191 main card look like this.

Flyweight Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson
Women's Strawweight Paige VanZant vs. Alex Chambers
Light Heavyweight Anthony Johnson vs. Jan Błachowicz
Bantamweight Francisco Rivera vs. John Lineker

meh

the highlight of the night gonna be the 2 sexy ladies grappling and rolling on the mat.

I like it so far. Pumped to see Dodson get a second shot at the title, he's without a doubt the biggest threat to Johnson in that division. VanZant/Chambers should be good and I've got no problem with seeing Johnson winning via near on murder. Lineker/Rivera should be a decent little fight too.

Is a shame we aren't getting Cormier/Gus on this show though.

i got Demetrious winning by decision and Rumble by decapitation.

Holohan trying to act like McGregor at the weigh in's yesterday was

Show starts at 9pm tonight on BT Sport 2. A couple of nice fights and hopefully Bisping can pick up another win. Calderwood looked quite emotional at first at the weigh in's before then looking like she was ready to straight up murder Casey, pumped for that fight. Calderwood really needs a win after the loss to Moroz though.

The Glasgow card is actually on now for anyone interested. BT are repeating it later on. I watch on fight pass through a french vpn address. Full access to all non ppv events that way. Makes fight pass well worth it!

Edit: @JP77 tagging you in just to make you aware.

Cheers mate, surprised they're starting so early. I'll catch it tonight though as it'll give me something to watch, will try to avoid spoilers until then.

Been a decent card so far. Last fight was a bit meh, but coming in on 9 days notice is a tough ask.

Good God the amount of OTT adverts on my fox sports 1 stream is bordering on satirical. How can you yanks stand so many adverts in such a short space of time. :wenger:

Sad state of affairs when Michael Bisping is the UK's greatest hope of success in the UFC. He's bloody dreadful.
He isn't dreadful, he is quite accomplished and had a stellar UFC career. Obviously not a hope anymore but many people would definitely love to have had a career like his.

And so has Diego Sanchez yet he's still pretty terrible. Once Bisping comes up against a decent opponent he loses, and usually via stoppage or a one sided drubbing. He's being talking about winning belt for nearly ten years!

He's far from dreadful. How would a dreadful fighter be a top 10 constant in the UFC's middleweight division for 7 years? He'll obviously never reach the very top but he basically defined what it is to be a gatekeeper in the UFC. Plus he's a Manchester lad and United fan so cut him some slack ;)

You have a strange scale of judging fighters if top 10 guys are decent and anyone below that is dreadful. What do you call the guys who actually are dreadful like Cathal Pendred?

He's actually from Clitheroe. :p OK he's had a stellar career when it comes to longevity but when it comes to the best of the best he falls way short.
