The MMA thread

I didn't like Pimblett anyway but him being a pathetic boot licker for Dana just reinforces it. Helwani made him look like a mug.

Hope he loses badly on Saturday.

I think most expect it to be a wash for Islam and the odds will be representative of that. You've reminded me to go find the worst odds on Volk and put a decent amount on!
Yeah that was the intention of the tag :)
Must say I expected it to be a lot closer.
1.6 Islam 2.4 Volk kind of area….I think volks very good value here

Agreed Volk is very good so at those odds I definitely think its with putting a bet on him. Saying that the main concern as with all fighters who move up in weight is whether they can compete against bigger fighters.

Even though Volk weighed a lot in his rugby days, height and reach will be massively in Islam's favour

Height yes, reach I doubt. Can’t be arsed to find the official reach but Volks an octopus, has crazy long arms for his body. It’s part of why he’s such a unique fighter. Check it out if you’re not as shamelessly lazy as me

Yea you're right I just checked and actually Volkanowski has a 1 inch reach advantage. Still you never know what will happen when a fighter goes up in weight as the power is very different

Fairly new to the sport - haven’t decided yet if I like or dislike Paddy

*I don't really follow MMA this interview just popped up on my Reddit.

So basically the UFC is like WWF was back in the old days before guaranteed contracts were a thing (thanks to competition to WCW) so they get a standard fee and basically what Dana White sells the fighters is an "Opportunity" (like Vince McMahon did) on his platform so that if they are a success like a McGregor they can make huge money (Hulk Hogan) but if you are a lower midcard guy you are basically getting brain damaged while living hand to mouth (Perry Saturn).

Maybe a difference is the ability to earn sponsorships etc that weren't available to WWF guys but the risk of serious injury is much higher too (plus shorter careers).

And Pimblett is basically screwing over the lower card fighters for an opportunity to suck up to the boss now he's in the main event?

Also isn't that Pimblett guy the Liverpool fan who said bad things about immigrants?

I normally like Paddy as a person, I'm not convinced of him as a fighter, but he's not looking good here on that podcast. On the other hand, not usually a big fan of Helwani, but his response here was classy and makes Paddy look a bit naive. Be careful what you say.....

It did seem a bit of a suck up to Dana since it's well documented Dana can't stand Helwani.

Probably would have been better for Paddy if he didn't bring up Helwani at all especially since he is promoting anti bullying and then starts to sound like a bully towards Ariel. Not a good look for sure.

Paddy the baddy, big socialist, “feck the Tories”…..screwing over the lower ranked guys and sucking off the boss for money. I love it, real life heal turn

I would absolutely enjoy seeing Chandler send Conor to the shadow realm

UFC being smart if that did happen, but I'm still not convinced McGregor will actually fight again, but someone like Chandler would come and attack, actually so would Gaethje.Conor at this stage can't be fighting anyone interested in taking him down to the ground. Chandler and Gaethje both could of course, but we know both of those would be looking for the ko

I would give my right testicle to see Chandler front kick Conor to the same place he sent Tony.
I reckon Conor will come back….he wants the money plus the arrogance that he’s the man is still definitely there. The only thing missing is he’s not good enough anymore and his defiled his body too much to keep up with truly dedicated athletes

Patchy Mix vs Magomedov about to start. Should be a super high level affair.

Raufeon Stots (ic) vs. Danny Sabatello, Bantamweight World Grand Prix semifinal (main event)
Liz Carmouche (c) vs. Juliana Velasquez, women's flyweight title
Patchy Mix vs. Magomed Magomedov, Bantamweight World Grand Prix semifinal

From completely dismissing this to admitting it’s a worry
https://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id...t-fixing-huge-concern-ufc-amid-investigations

The former is Pre FBI investigation, the worried tone is post. Coincidence?
UFC could be in trouble here. Who knew 12/12 contracts and under paying fighters could have repercussions..

I think James Krause will be the sacrificial lamb. Word is he is already selling all of his MMA investments. He is done.

Also, fighters/coaches competing in the UFC, will probably be banned from betting on UFC fights. They will always find a way around though.

ps. I had a bet on "Fire" Marshall last weekend vs a james Krause fighter (Marcelo Rojo) and the bookie took its sweet time to pay it (like half a week).
