The MMA thread

Then give Islam a top 3 guy and not Chandler (who is ranked below him BTW). Dariush would be a good fight for him since he's actually been winning his recent fights.
Yes. Islam vs. Dariush sounds good or even Islam v the loser of Poirier and Chucky Olives. Then there would be no denying him a title shot (if he gets through one of these).

By the way, this is something i've been wondering...

If you were a MMA coach, and had to build the perfect strategy to beat heavyweight Jones, what do you do ?

Let's assume he is going to maintain the speed he had at LHW and his body strenght will be better, making him particularly dangerous in clinch exchanges and when he gets takedowns.

When you add his ridiculous lenght and general fight IQ/Unpredictability, for me it would be very tough to come up with a gameplan.

My best guess is, you push a relentless pace, getting in his face, messing up his rythim, get in and out, ocasionally scoring a takedown on him.

Thiago Santos almost beat him, what did he do? Just stood there and exchanged as far as I remember.

Jones has no power in his hands, so I would be trading jabs and crosses for bombs. If Machida-Jones ever comes back they're all screwed. But if he doesn't get his arms around you, or get elbows from the top, you're gonna get 5 rounds to swing.

He's just looked so poor for years now, compared to the sport-defining performances he used to put on. I can't get excited about his fights, they've been terrible for years.

I can't see him beating Francis, just the worst match up for him.

I’m not sure why but I howled at that

He does it every time for many years now

Jones's best performances have always come up against the biggest names. The Shoguns, Rampages, Machidas, Evans and Cormiers of the world.

Against the lesser star names, he seems to not put up as much effort. That has been a clear pattern throught his career.

Either of Gane or Ngannou are highly intriguing matchups. Jones has an iron chin and has never been submitted.

Trains in Salford and has just signed with the UFC as one of the youngest fighters on the rosta. He turned down The Contender series to earn his own spot. Currently 6-0 in MMA. Looks a good prospect.

Khamzat looking big next to a ex middleweight contender. (This is for a wrestling match)

Edit. He was wearing shoes though.

Not mma but still fun to watch them go at it.
Khamzat and Jack wrestling session

Also impressed by Khamzats ability to cut weight to ww when he weighs in at 90kg/199lb for this event and looks ripped.
Jack looked like he usually does and weighs in on less.

Complete opposite to last Saturday, excitement wise.

This next fight, the last one of the prelims, should set things straight.

Pat Sabatini Vs Lutz gonna be a good one.

Decision fest

It’s not been a good sporting day

Should be a good fight. If Islam wins, there will be zero excuses left to not give him an immediate title shot.

Let's hope so.

Another tremendous fight heating up nicely at FW. Probably the current best grapplers in the division going head to head. 15-0 vs 11-0.
