I hope all this is true and we sack him today. Please Woody, I really don't want to watch another game with LvG as manager. :(

I've seen you voice your support for Giggs getting the job a few times and I'm wondering what your reaasoning for it? Genuinely curious because for me the potential risks outweigh the potential romanticism of him succeeding.

For me it's about the PL . Giggs understands what is needed to play and win in this league. LVG as shown that the PL is a hard nut to crack and it's not guaranteed that Pep would find it any easier , that's why i'm not bothered if he goes to Citeh.

From the sun. I hope this is okay?
MANCHESTER UNITED’S American owners have been left with the final decision on whether to sack Louis van Gaal after Jose Mourinho agreed in principle to be their next manager.

Talks have taken place between the club and Mourinho, and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has done enough work to ensure a replacement is now in place when needed.

Now all that remains is for the Glazer family to officially sanction making the change — and the debate is whether to sack Van Gaal now or give him one last chance in the Boxing Day trip to Stoke.

The Old Trafford board have been reluctant to turn against the Dutchman, who is seen as their first real choice as United boss after going with Sir Alex Ferguson’s advice in appointing David Moyes.

But the 2-1 defeat to Norwich on Saturday was the third straight loss for the side and more worryingly is that the team look to be short of any inspiration.

A top four finish and Champions League qualification is the minimum they expect from the season after backing Van Gaal to the tune of £300million since his arrival.
And having dropped down to fifth in the table the alarm bells are ringing loud that something needs to be done to avoid spending another season in the European wilderness.

There has been a big shift towards parting company with Van Gaal, an option that has become even more attractive with the sudden availability of a world class coach in Mourinho.

Woodward has done his bit by making sure Mourinho is in place if needed, now it is just up to Avram and Joel Glazer to give the nod.

They are not just considering the last six games, they are aware that since April Van Gaal has won just 14 out of 33 matches.

It is the long term downward trend that has seen former players openly criticise his tactics, and over the weekend the supporters finally turned on their manager.
United have long had a reputation of fans who have stuck by their bosses, but a poll on the respected Red Issue website returned a whopping 88 per cent in favour of sacking Van Gaal immediately.

The Glazer brothers know they cannot gamble with a top four finish or going against the major will of the fans — it is just a case of whether to make the change now, or see if they are any signs of improvement at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

And the big fear is whether delaying until after such a hectic festive period could cost United too many points come the end of the season.

What time was Mourinho sacked the other day? Late afternoon? Still hope for today then

Can someone explain to me the whole NYSE thing, we'd have to announce it when it's open or just about to open? How does the work with them being 5 hours behind..

Its bollocks which gets trotted out every transfer window and then subsequently debunked.

It just sounds vaguely like it makes sense so people believe it.

There goes my last hope of today then!

The Mourinho thing makes to much sense to not be true, for me. Judging by the way we've done business the last 3 years, Mourinho seems like the man the Glazer's would love to bring in.

Maybe this is the plan all along. Take Falcao, feck up Chelsea's season and take the United job in December.

I heard Sky say his name was chanted at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford. I certainly didn't hear it.

The issue is whether Mourinho to take over before or after the Chelsea game. Giggs could manage the team against Stoke and Chelsea. It would be bad if Mou started with a loss from Chelsea...

I don't see why it would be particularly bad, every loses are bad.

Aye and he wouldn't have much time to prepare for it either. It would also be the perfect start if he were to win against them so it'd be a gamble.

Maureen's father is seriously ill and he is in Portugal visiting him. I very much doubt that doing a deal with us is his first priority right now.

It's giggs, trying to convince myself it won't be but I'm just starting to accept it now.

It's giggs till summer, we'll try for pep and be too late then it will be giggs next year too.

Source?

I know his Dad's been ill for a while, but seen nothing to suggest that he's taken a turn for the worse. And he was at Brighton/Middlesborough on Saturday.

I won't be going to OT next season if that is the idiocy the club choose. It will just be an insult to all fans if that's the case.

Giggs could very well be the next manager but it could just be until pep comes which I'd be ok with just don't want him as permanent manager especially if it means we take Giggs over Jose, that would be retarded.

If it's Woodward, Glazers and a few money men making the decisions then Giggs as manager could well happen. You would have to think though that if the opinions of Fergie, Gill, Charlton etc are seriously canvased then there is no way this would happen, not when you have Guardiola, Mourinho and possibly Simone pitching for PL jobs.

It's a bit like Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar saying they want to play in the PL and us passing that up in favour of hoping an inexperienced James Wilson will come good.

Beyond idiotic from our board if you're right. We should be in contact with Pep right now and unless it's a solid commitment then we move for Mourinho, we cannot risk waiting till the summer. By that point Mourinho will have gone and our options will be very limited.

No. Pep has most likely already decided his next club. At least that is what is being reported. If it's Giggs till Summer, then Pep will surely take over. If not, then it'll most likely be Mourinho as soon as possible.

I've been avoiding this thread but feck me it's reached unrivalled levels of delirium in here.

Of course LVG isn't about to be sacked. Fortunately we're not that type of club, regardless of how many keyboard warriors want us to be. Look at the state of the gutter press and twitter rumours jumping on our run off poor form for easy clicks. Not one reliable paper to be seen.

If they're going to sack LvG now then the only serious option is Mourinho. I'm in no way an advocate of Mourinhos but sacking LvG to employ Giggs as manager would be insanity, if they want to avoid Mourinho then surely the best thing to do is stick with LvG for now while they are sounding out someone like Pep to take charge next season?

If we sack LVG then my prediction is that we install Giggs for the next two games and then Mourinho will take over on a 3 year deal after the Chelsea game.

It's only my prediction though, no actual information to back it up.

This is what I keep telling myself. It is such a huge risk you're arguably pissing money down a drain yet I have this insane feeling the club will hire him as a interim, wait until summer and feck up finding a replacement and then have "no choice" but to stick with him for 2017.

Look at the state of our squad and performances. You don't get any extra 't0p red' points for still blindly believing in Van Gaal you know

What sort of club are we then?

One thats happy with not winning for 6 games and 3 wins in our last 14?

lmao if the independent, TimeS and and Gaurdian aren't reliable then who is ? More than just the Sun and daily star running the story that LVG is near enough done.

We're not what type of a club? We stick to the same manager for 26 years? Tell that to Moyes.

Fingers crossed, still.

We are on overdrive. I don't think LVG is that close to being axed. Woodwood said various times over the summer that the board is completely behind the manager, and our current number of injuries is plain as day.

I would imagine that he'll get a few games over X-Mas to turn this around, and if that doesn't happen - the club will be in talks to sort out the next manager over the summer. LVG will probably get sacked only if we are in real danger of dropping out of the top 4 towards the end of the season. Right now, we aren't that far behind (just goal difference).

Not like we sacked any managers before Fergie or sacked Moyes either

I agree this is the most logical decisions that could be made.

I see what you did there. Not quite a 5/7 attempt, but amusing still

aka lets wait for him to make reaching top 4 even harder than it is now ? Our current form is dire, ive been backing him but we had 3 senior defenders and lost at home to norwich. Cannot risk losing top 4 again out of kindness, if he has lost the dressing room just end it now.

Who says I still believe? I've not enjoyed watching LVGs United for some time. That doesn't make the notion of us sacking him just before Christmas and letting Giggs take over any less ridiculous.

But it doesn't look like he has lost the dressing room. We are all relying on Giggs getting off his chair and standing on the touchline to infer that he has lost the dressing room. Giggs's influence on the first XI is significantly lesser now that under Moyes (as most of the players have come under LVG). And, its possible that LVG just told Giggs - do what you want - see if it makes a difference. I don't think it will, but suit yourself.
