Gaming The Legend of Zelda | Earthquake: "It's actually ridiculously good, and keeps getting better." ★★★★★

Not sure whether to get this now or wait.

I haven't found time for a single player game in a long time but this looks immense.

It really does. I was never even *that* much of a Zelda fan, and this is the most excited I've been for a game in probably multiple generations.

You're getting a new console too I guess so it's even more exciting!

Maybe I should wait for the Switch to play it. I dunno.. it could be ages before I have one of those (if ever).

Yup! That's part of it, which also includes finally getting to play Mario Kart 8 in April.

Well, if you don't plan on getting the Switch in the near future, or at all, I'd just crack on with the game. It really does seem too good to miss.

Little things like being less able to climb slippery cliffs in the rain, or lightning hitting metal armour/weapons in storms...plus it sounds like this is a decent challenge too.

I'm beginning to really get hyped for this, more so than for any game in years

Not sure what to make of this Zelda. I don't play Zelda games because they innovate, I play them because they're familiar. It'll be interesting to see if they manage to keep the quintessential Zelda feel.

You're in for a treat.

Make sure you get Splatoon too.

Splatoon is one I'm unsure of, as I'm not much into online multiplayer games.

Trust us, you will be. It's nothing like the standard online game where everyone gets so great because they play it so much, it's so well balanced and easy to jump in and out of, it's totally worth it.

My 6 year old is level 24 and regularly holds his own. It's that well made.

Was watching a video a while back, and it seemed to me like there was either no field music, or very little field music.

It looked an absolute shambles then, basically. ;)

Apparently Kotaku's review leaked

Reviews are out. IGN and Gamespot both gave it 10.

98/100 from 44 critics haha

Looks like this is a bit of a masterpiece then judging by the countless full mark reviews. I have Ocarina of Time for the 3DS and only really played it for a while when I was off work sick for about a week then once I got back to a regular schedule I just didn't pick it up again, I really must try to put aside some time to give that another go.

So excited for this! The Switch is the first Nintendo console I'll be buying since the N64, as they have not (IMO) managed to compete with Playstation and XBox. I love the versatility with the Switch, and other than the amazingly looking Zelda and Mario games, the list of indie games looks very promising.

half day tomorrow in work tomorrow, so I will pick up the console and game on way home

Looking forward to it

Skyward Sword got straight 10s when it came out too, and that game was bang average. Critics go nuts over Zelda games.

Still, Kotaku were one of the few people to call Skyward Sword for what it was, so its good news if they're calling this a roaring success.

I never played Skyward Sword, it seems to have mixed opinions though

A lot of people really like it

It was small, easy, and did very little new. If you can get it cheap it'd be one of those games you could nail in a solid weekend and enjoy doing it though.

That's true. I personally didn't think the latest GTA and Metal Gear were worthy of all the 10s either but it's all we have to go on for now.

Does anyone know what time this will be available to download from the Nintendo store?

I know everybody wants innovation and one of the best games ever whenever a new Zelda comes out but it's like catching lightning in a bottle - new teams working on them with new tech in a changing world etc.

No band, film director, gaming studio, sports team etc continually produces masterpieces/wins - though you could have complaints about Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, they're still really good 9/10 (at least) games and the rate of success is almost unrivalled in any medium.

I only played Phantom Hourglass and hated it, did I just manage to catch a low point of the series?

Pretty surprised at the reviews. I expected the game to not live up to the mega hype it surrounded. From the footage I saw so far it looked a tad boring.

Feck! I promised myself that I wouldn't buy the switch because the main reason I bought the Wii U was for this game and it's been gathering dust for the past 2 years... Are the differences going to be massive between the two?

I dont think they're likely to be too different. The Switch isnt all that powerful because its mobile, so its not like there's the same compromises you'd make going cross platform from PS3 to PS4.

seperate topic but have any of you guys played Pokken tournament

I had zero interest in a Nintendo Switch and I've never played a Zelda game in my life, but having watched some of this game and read a few reviews I have to say I'm tempted. This looks like something I would enjoy immensely. Are reviewers usually this glowing about new Zelda games?

Yes, but then again there's a reason for that. They are always at the top end of their genres, and usually among the best of the generation. Ocarina of Time is often called the greatest game ever made, and it's the benchmark for these types of games.

As always, some people go over the top, like with the last one Skyward Sword. But even though it got too highly praised, it's still a shining example of a game and it's only real weakness is that it's compared to all the other Zelda games.
