Just watched episode 8 and that was my favourite yet.

I'm ready for tonight, up at 3am. Just watched it through again yesterday and today and it's a really good show. HBO need to sort the discs out pronto; I hate streaming audio.
Last episode has dropped early. And giraffes made it in.
Wow. That was an incredible finish. Felt some of the same unforgettable emotions as when I played the game.
I love the way they shot the sequence, like it was almost a dream for Joel. He knows what he is doing is wrong, and that Ellie would hate him for it, but he just can’t stop himself. He couldn’t save Sarah, but he will not let Ellie die.

Really was brilliant. Brutal as well but they managed to not make that aspect of it unwatchable
I think he was wrong given the bigger picture and thats what helps make it all so conflicted.
It's a fantastic moral dilemma, don't think there truly is a right or wrong answer
think it was written to be an unanswerable question. If Marlene sits Ellie and Joel down to lay out the details and ask her to sacrifice herself , how does that play out? But they don't give her a choice. They take away her agency just as much as Joel does. So what would Joel do if Ellie wants to give her life to the cause? I don't think he can react the way he did here. All that aside, personally I can't fault Joel. The only semblance of humanity worth saving is on the operating table and in small encampments that have survived and endured. The rest is spoiled and rotted even without being infected. No cure for the humanity that was lost
The FF were wrong. Ellie should have been told and been given the choice. Also remember it’s still uncertain if it will work. So Joel was put in a situation where he had to act..
After that when he speaks to Marlene and she tells him “what would Ellie want” is when you see he probably kills Marlene and then lies because he thinks if given the choice Ellie would go ahead with it.
Of course he was right, the utilitarian decision Marlene came to was wrong.
Plus the episode makes her look worse . Given she was there just after Ellie's birth and her close relationship with mom, she's either incredibly stupid not to figure out the cause of immunity or if she did, why not create a program to recreate Ellie's voluntarily, instead of risking everything on one teen.
Being willing to straight up sacrifice Ellie without a back up with what she knows is silly but most importantly like most ultilitarians she wouldn't put herself through it for the greater good, which is an option with her knowledge from the second she knew Ellie was immune.
She had all the knowledge and took away Ellie's choice and Joel's ability to accept that choice had Ellie made it.

He was definitely in the wrong if you consider the "greater good".
However he's right if you think that no father who lost his same-age daughter should be able to escort Ellie across the country, save each others lives, then have her killed in an experiment.
It's got 2 equal ways of looking at things and it's part of what made the game great, you could definitely solidly justify either standpoint and not be convinced either way.

Joel did what any father would do. FF didnt tell Ellie about the procedure and Marlene didnt see the bond Joel and Ellie had developed. Not even letting him say good bye and giving them time to process this decision. I think FF got what they deserved.
Recreating Ellie’s conditions of birth means infecting potentially tens or hundreds of women. And then waiting to see if the baby develops immunity. Those who don’t probably die as well.
They are in apocalypse, choices most of the time won’t be perfect or easy. Overwhelming number of survivors shown on screen have made these kind of choices already. If the operation succeeds and they get the cure, no one would care about Marlene’s choice.

I know the series is grim in general, but if you're waiting for a full hour to watch a couple of thirteen year-olds 'lez it up' then you might want to go do something else.

There's a good few rumours about it, and they've said they had a storyline planned for Part 3, but currently nothing more than that and they seem unsure whether the thing will happen at all.
Really hope this series doesn't go the Game of Thrones route and carry on after the storyline of the games.
It is just their plan. The game developers are a part of the TV show, so it is a cohesive team moving forward.

The giraffes? I always assumed that the infected had no interest in animals and that they attacked humans as a means of "reproduction". It could also be that very few infected remain in SLC.
Hmm you're right I haven't seen any other infected animals. It was a nice moment to remind us of the things we take for granted.
But that doesn't make it right. The world and stuff is pretty much established, a slower more careful approach that is voluntary is far more logical than her choices given what we now know.
But for a start all she had to do was ask Ellie. But she took that choice from her and forced Joel's hand.joel made the human decision, not a selfish one. Not telling Ellie afterwards is when Joel became selfish.
I'm irrationally annoyed that the time taken for Ellie to shout to Joel that, 'you've gotta see this', and the time it actually takes them to get there don't match.

It was on Sky Atlantic 2am. Think it was being broadcast live on HBO from 1am UK time.
