Gaming The Last of Us Part II (PS4)

I can't watch atm - is it new characters, same setting?

probably worth spoilering the answer

That's not Ellie, is it?

no, its not Ellie, she doesn't have the tatts she had in the first trailer and Druckmann said in the interview that these are "other really important characters". In the same interview there are strong hints that this is Ellie's mother. Druckmann says he won't speak of WHEN this trailer takes place, and of how these characters are connected to Ellie and such. The voice actress for the woman that was being hung in that trailer is seemingly the same voice actress for Ellie and the character models share similarities.

the biggest eviden that this trailer takes place in the past, besides Druckmann's mention of "when", is the fact that the archer in the trailer refers to clickers as "demons", meaning this happened before "clickers" became the widespread terminology for them.

Looking great.

Cracking and brutal trailer. Their cinematic presentation and facial animations are on another level. It feels like the atmosphere is going to be even darker and grimmer than in the first game.

Didn't understand anything from this trailer. Are these supposed to be the fireflies ? And who were they catching ? I though at first they're people infected and about to transform but it turned out to not be the case. Very odd.

It seems Naughty Dog will keep everything unknown till the release time.

The trailer was obviously very well made.

But why confuse people with new characters like this for the reveal? I thought it was one of 3 or 4 games until the very end.

Confuse? Or mystery? What did you want to see?

Instead of showing you more of the same, or returning characters (which would of been okay). They decided to introduce more characters and get people talking about who they are, and how they fit in to the overall story? All while showing off the updated engine and the gritty tone.... We already know Ellie will be in it anyway, from the actual reveal.

They just want peope to speculate about the game, probably because they're still some way from being able to show actual gameplay and they want to keep the fans invested. I don't get what's so odd or confusing about it.

Think I’m gonna see if I can find anyone who wants to swap an Xbox One for a PS4. Xbox exclusives are wank.

This is a very interesting although quite lengthy animation analysis of the E3 TLOU Part II by the senior tech animator for Motive.

Cool looking video. I'll check out more of that later.

I've watched the trailer so many times already. It's so good. The beginning is just amazing with the music and the acting, then the gameplay portion looks awesome. Can't wait to play this game.

I may buy the remastered version of the first one again. I've completed it twice but this trailer has got me in the mood to go back to it.

I bought it a while ago, saving it for when I have a release date and it gets closer. Still haven’t played the prequel.

There is no way the actual combat will be as fluid and synced as the trailer but dammit I can't wait for this, even though I didn't really feel it needed a sequel.

Interview with Neil Druckmann and others who worked on the game. Also Ashley Johnson and Shannon Woodward

What made the original so compelling and memorable was the characters, their relationships and the atmosphere of the world. Combat looks good, more fluid and dynamic but I dearly hope they can nail those other areas I mentioned, that is what people will be judging it by. Not sure it is possible to match or better the Joel and Ellie dynamic( though Left Behind with Ellie/Riley was also excellent) but my interest is piqued.

Yeah i would agree with that. The combat was fine and i enjoyed it, but that's not what made the game special. There's games out there that probably does that stuff better, but what they don't do better is create the sort of compelling characters that NaughtyDog do. Particularly in the Last of Us.

I hope they don't just start it with Joel dead.

It's disappointing when you invest in a character and then they're just killed off like it's nothing at the start of the next game. Although it's more than likely what's happening

Looks like they've included dodging and crawling, will love to see how that works out in the game. This trailer must be much later in the game because of the cutlass. They'll most likely start her off with that pen knife and revolver

Nah, the guy at the party mentions getting a lecture from Ellies old man. So he's around at least at some point. Game looks incredible although I can't believe it will be as smooth in open play a la her run, pick up and throw bottle and keep running move.

Why would that be more than likely? He's clearly alive during the "happier days" scene, judging by the "your old man" comment. Assuming that all or most of those people are killed at the start, turning Ellie into her hateful murdering mode, that means the very first trailer we saw is set after that. Joel is alive in that trailer and asks Ellie what she's going to do, with her answering something along the lines of "I'm going to kill every last one of them". So he must've survived whatever happened at that community.

There is the interpretation of that trailer, that Joel is actually dead, and Ellie is just imaging him. There was a big theory about it.

Of course that from the new trailer, he will be alive at the beginning, but after that who knows. It will actually be cool if he dies (next transition for Ellie), but it must not happen off-screen.

There was a theory? I completely missed that.

That guy is also a figment of Ellie's subconscious to convince herself Joel is still alive, hmm the dancing girl also acknowledges him so I assume she's an imaginary ghost too...as was the fella she was dancing with previously.. the whole room is full of imagined ghosts basically, and Ellie is alone, which is impressive in it's own right as that setup must have take some time to put up by herself, I'm sure once she finished putting all that lighting up she took a moment to admire her work & said "you know what Ellie, we really are the Last of Us". She's also schizophrenic.
