The Guardian - Manchester United to sack Erik ten Hag after the FA Cup Final

To be honest, him staying shouldn't be contingent on one result, so if they have made the decision then that's fair enough.

My issue is more with the dickhead who chose to put this out there to the media today (assuming it's legit).

This is even more pathetic if it's for Mckenna, someone who was part of a failure of a coaching staff for many years.

Trying to stay positive and hoping the players will want to show they arent the problem and give everything in this game, one good thing about them throwing managers under the bus...

Shocking, shameless behaviour from the club.

It’s shocking that there isn’t a consensus amongst the majority of our supporters that this was a classless leak to have before a cup final, but there are sadly those lowlife supporters that exist in our fanbase.

They're not sacking him before the final. He's just confirming what most of us expected in that he will be off after the final. And rightly so.

Behave yourself! Nobody expected an announcement from the club of any kind before the Final.

So what confirmation has Steinberg got then?.... oh wait... that must be it, Jacob knows someone whose uncle cuts the grass outside the house of the guy who lives next door to the guy who delivers the pies at OT...

So it looks like it will be either McKenna, Tuchel, Poch or Thomas Frank.

All a big step down IMO but I will be here for the next sacking in a year or two

This. If they knew they were always going to sack Ten Hag, they should have executed a lot better than this. It's the eve of a cup final against our bitter rivals who could win a double after a treble.

Because I’ll need solid evidence that this has come direct from the club and not a third party before getting het up over it. I strongly suspect this leak is from a third party and has nothing to do with the club.

I thought they weren't making any footballing decisions? If true the fecking bollocks on these cnuts.
Either that’s true and there are some power plays going on OR the agreement if they the glazers will take the blame not INEOS since their reputation is already rock bottom

You wouldn't believe this shit if it was some random caf poster saying the same thing. Why is it automatically true if it's some random on twitter instead?

Aye until the first sign of trouble.

This fan base has zero patience and as soon as we have a bad run/season regardless of the circumstances we want to sack the manager whilst beating our chests shouting 'we're Man Utd'

We will never succeed unless we give a manager a chance even when things aren't going well.
On the contrary I feel like we have excessive amounts of patience for a fan club of our stature. Especially when you compare us to the likes of Madrid, Barca or Munich fans who will have probably been waving the white flags and calling for his head after the Anfield massacre. Don't think you'd see those clubs be singing in full voice after watching their team get demolished 4-0 by a team like Crystal Palace either.

And when the patience wanes its usually because we see very little in progress or foundations being developed. We eventually lost patience in Moyes and Ole because it was clear they were hopelessly out of their depth, for Mourinho and LVG because of their antiquated approach to the game, and now for Erik because of there being no real tangible progress being made with the team.

If McKenna comes in, he'll be given plenty of patience providing the evidence is there for us building towards some sort of ascension, much like Klopp and Arteta in their early seasons.

The manager gets more fan support here than any other big club in the world.

This idea that we're harsh on managers and want to sack them all as soon as anything goes wrong is an incredible myth. Sure there will be some fans like that, but you only have to look at how much support managers who have been blatantly failing for a significant amount of time still get to know that it's not the case.

Even that bs source about the Glazers says that they INEOS recommended to the Glazers that ETH be sacked after the FA Cup final. Not saying the Glazers made the decision against the wishes of INEOS

Awful timing, but if it is true, I wish him all the best, he is not a bad coach like some extremist moaners would make you believe so on here. Good luck Erik, it wasn't meant to be.

A CL winner is a step down from the guy who finished 8th? Some of you people...

If it was done on purpose by the club, absolutely agree.

If it wasn't - then what do we call it? Unfortunate? Bad luck?

Would you rather the club waited until next week to actually do anything, by which time some of the better options might be off the table?

Agreed, if the club have approached McKenna, Tuchel, Poch or others, then there is every chance someone close to them, or themselves, have been told by the club in an early interview process that Ten Hag is gone. As someone said earlier, if Steinberg knows Pochettino's camp for example.

The Van Gaal stuff came from Jorge Mendes and Mourinho that time, pretty sure?

You're assuming the club are the ones that leaked it. I'm certain they weren't. It most likely came from one of the managerial camps that was contacted.

He's just lashing out because he wanted Ten hag to stay.

this.

I am disgusted. Have we not learnt anything after the way Woodword treated Van Gaal? I would say this is worse then that because at least Van Gaal had the chance to go into a Cup final with no distractions. The game is tomorrow and Ten Hag and the team have to deal with this along with everything else. I get people want Ten Hag gone but this could have all been best coming out next week instead of before the cup final. Ten Hag is now the definition of dead man walking.

He's reliable then?

About time.

HOWEVER, as much as I wanted him gone why the hell wait until the day before the final? Or if decided earlier, why not keep the leaks down for one more day?

Now we get the worst of both worlds; the players know he's gone before the most important game of the season but we also didn't get the benefit of a better manager to get us CL football.
Pretty sure he’ll have known by now and it just hasn’t been announced.

They are as bad as each other
Not to me. I assume ETH will have been told a couple of days ago and will have had some time to prepare mentally. He's getting the FA Cup finale as a send off while LVG got booted without knowing it the day before winning the cup.

My God. I bet you were good in school plays.

Was it a deliberate leak? Or, do you think, perhaps, just maybe, it's hard for the most talked about sports team in the world to start making moves for a new manager without someone saying something?

Take your Oscar, get off the stage and get your head back in the real world.

Must have come as a complete shock to him. How could he have possibly known.

A lot of those crying about the leaks are just throwing a hissy because Ten Hag has been sacked at all.

The club has to go about it's business in trying to find a new manager and there's only so much they can do to stop it leaking. Would people prefer we waited and missed out on targets?

Whoever leaked this should be sacked with him for their incompetence.

It's because that it isn't us who leaked it and there were 2 clubs in for the manager who is likely taking over here. So it's easy to find out from them. The shit part is trying to play the "wait til end of season" game when you should've been clear and honest ages ago so everyone knew to focus til the end of the season and knew what the outcome would be after.

People running rampant with the 'these players' narratives again I see.

Sigh.

Are you too young to remember the 2016 final?

Everyone was talking about who Jose's first signing would be, never mind whether or not the manager was getting the chop.

The next 48 hours of faux outrage like this is going to be nauseating.

Loaded up Twitter to see loads of people blaming Ineos for this. I don’t understand what they possibly have to gain from leaking it. Keep it under wraps till the end of the season but leak it right before the cup final.

Nice load of clicks before our biggest game of the season though.

Alternatively, it's shocking that it seems such a huge amount of our supporters seem to think this was a leak from the club. It's by far the least likely of the options.

It's almost certainly either a guess that he's going to be sacked (not exactly a difficult guess there, it's obviously the most likely case), or it's a leak involved with one of the managers that we've approached. The fact that so many other clubs are out there looking for managers means we've had no choice but to be proactive and approach the managers that we're interested in, so it's difficult to keep it completely quiet.

The only option was to either sack him earlier or announce that we were sacking him at the end of the season. Otherwise there is no possible way not to have these kinds of 'leaks'.

Its who leaked that matters right now, not who made the choice.

We didn't have much chance tomorrow anyway, but this leak is designed to disrupt any preparations, quite deliberately so. If its come from a player, they need to be gone, whoever it is.

As for if its justified, you can watch the first game of the season against wolves and the last one and see the exact same issues of a poorly set up midfield and lack of any sort of pattern of play in both.

All the minutes of football played between those two games, and ten hag didn't change one single thing. That is why he is going, and that is why it is right he is going.
