The Guardian - Manchester United to sack Erik ten Hag after the FA Cup Final

I'm all for it - if he is being replaced with McKenna. For any other candidate we've been linked with, I'd rather keep Ten Hag. He might be a moron, but at least, he's our moron, not Chelsea leftovers.

ETH's future playing out like this goes against the Utd DNA, and to be honest, I'm pretty ashamed right now.
I'm more ashamed about this season. He had to go.
United can't help leaks (if they are correct). They won't confirm it until after the final.

I think he’s more than aware if he has any self awareness.
This week he's been talking about planning for the summer with Wilcox, so I doubt it has anything to do with self awareness.

How is this leaking now? The poor sod has to face multiple rounds of the media tomorrow with everyone asking him about how he's getting sacked. The opposition fans will be mocking him endlessly. What shite to pour on our own manager. Disgraceful.

Like I said, he needs to take control of the narrative now. The club does, don't just sit like they have for months. Just announce he's off by mutual consent to give him some dignity back and ask the fans to get behind the guy.

Poor signings, poor football.

No way he was staying..

another failed manager.. hopefully with Ineos taking over the footballing side and a new manager, we can start with a clean slate..
Wont be easy with the squad still filled with some really poor players.

If he set the team up in a similar way to last season, he almost certainly would be staying. This is all on him. I hope our next manager won't have such a suicidal setup in midfield.

Agents from managers the club have talked to are leaking this. It's a shame it has come out before the final, but it is what it is.

Awful awful timing. with a massive cup final tomorrow

This has actually pissed me off a bit. It means player power has won again.

If they are being ruthless with the manager, they better be ruthless with this group of useless players. Cause we will be back in this same position in 12-18 months time without a doubt
How’d you work that out?

The entire article is based on a 'well placed source'. He's tier 3 at best for United stuff.

Just a journo being a dick. It's likely ETH will get sacked (not a secret), it's highly unlikely this was just decided.

Bound to happen, bad timing, but these rats will never let that get in the way of clicks.

Why are people making a big deal of this article? All it's saying is what all the rumours have been saying for a while, and the rumours are only saying what every man and his dog knew was the very strong probability. The Guardian simply waited until the article would get the most attention and put it out then.

Bloody hell, the way people are reacting on Twitter is ridiculous. Crazy how much support ETH has on there considering this season. Loads of them are going to have pitchforks out for the new manager, whoever it is.

It's been obvious for months and should have been confirmed a few weeks ago. I'm sure Ten Hag has enough intelligence to have also realised that but you can only hope they had the decency to officially tell him before. Can't really blame the club for it leaking though, they clearly wouldn't have wanted it to either.

Which players?

One of the notable differences between this season and the Ole/Rangnick season is that the players are generally still trying their best out there. Which makes it even worse on ETH that he's probably still managed to have a worse season than when they actually had basically given up and downed tools.

Ill agree that Ten Hags tactics and decisions at times have been baffling. But we cant deny that when we are in control of a game, concede, then completely implode where we cant pass 5 feet or track a runner ghosting past them like they arent there, then lose the game horribly. Thats not on a manager when they stop doing the basics all of a sudden after holding tight for so long in a game. Its prob more down to a discipline/ mental problem with some of the players.

as for players downing tools. I hate to jump on him as he's been an easy target (for good reason). >> Rashford. For whatever reason, he has had no interest in putting in a shift this season.

A few seem to have caught wind these last few days. I think probably due to serious talks with new managers, at that point it's impossible to keep quiet as agents, coaches and other clubs suddenly know what we're up to. And why should they keep quiet?

Yes, or if a decision really hasn't been made yes. My money on he's being sacked, and then probably not on basis of results alone.

A decision has 100% been made. It's almost June. They have to get in a new coach and plan for next season and so on.

This was inevitable, it’s obvious the club are going to sack him based on the season we’ve just seen and their refusal to back him. There isn’t really an ideal way to handle this situation and it’s one of the reasons probably should have done it after the Palace game.

Unless everything else changes sacking the manager won’t make a blind bit of difference. Absolutely pathetic as well that this wasn’t kept quiet until after the cup final, whatever hope we had beforehand we have less now.

Should have announced or denied it earlier than right before the final. This is such an unwanted distraction.

Let's hope, just like LVG, Ten Hag will get the FA cup as a parting gift.

Shocking timing. Why before an FA cup final?
Honestly, I wonder if they are hoping the players might pick up tools again in the knowledge winning the final won’t mean they are saving ten Hag’s job.

Yeah I don't buy into that this time. I think they've genuinely tried. The tactics and setup have just been exposed all season, coupled with usual poor form from some players and injuries.

Agreed.

I think it's been true with other managers, Mourinho clearly lost the dressing room by the end and I don't think Moyes ever had it to begin with. But the players this season, as awful as they've been, I never thought they had stopped trying.

Maybe the odd individual, Rashford has put in some distinctly half arsed performances, but in general the squad hasn't downed tools.

How’d you work that out?

I just feel that when the players are asked to dig deep, the attitude and gameplan goes out the window, and we cant do the basics. Prob more of a mental/discipline issue. Some of them dont seem to like having to do the hard work.

Definitely not absolving EtH from any responsibility here,, But i fear it will be rinse repeat eventually under the next manager.. (We've seen this all before)
