The Guardian - Manchester United to sack Erik ten Hag after the FA Cup Final

Horrible timing on the eve of the cup final though. Surely the club could have just put a statement out, even if it's prevaricating or economical with the truth: The club is 100% focused on the FA cup final and we fully back EtH, the staff and the players. After an appalling season the fans deserve to look forward to a cup final and every effort will be made to stop 115 charges winning a double.

Instead it feels very rotten and classless. Even if the manager and players already knew, or however the information got out, it just feels wrong for fans to know on the eve of a cup final. THAT should be the focus, nothing else.

On a side note, I wonder if Conte knew he was getting sacked before they beat us in the 2018 final? Maybe it doesn't have to be so pessimistic.
Do you not think that someone in the City camp could have released this as a distraction?

We truly are Manager FC. People more concerned about treatment of the failing manager than what's best for the club. None of this is going to make a slightest bit of difference for the cup final. Ten Hag surely would have known for some time now. If he didn't then he's incredibly naive and delusional.

Surely the best for the club would be give ourselves the best chance to win the final.

It’s cute people think we ever had a chance tomorrow that this news would somehow derail us
It's a cup final and we finally have almost our whole squad back for it , if fans can't be excited about that then what's the point.

It's daft really only Luke Shaw was here when LVG came in and lad has spent most of his time injured but plays when fit, so he doesn't have an axe to grind.

It is daft, but then people continually post daft things on here.

Search 'these players' and you'll find 2 thousand variations of the same shite posted in the last 2 months.

now imagine he has 4 defenders with recovery pace who can play closer to half line and allow us to compact the game. Go figure

You do realise he signed a defender with no recovery pace for £47 million right? He also continually picked Maguire (who has no pace at all) over Varane when the later wasn’t injured. The constant excuses this man gets is incredible.

Edit: Plus Dalot, AWB & Shaw are hardly slow.

It's a one off cup final and we finally have almost our whole squad back for it , if fans can't be excited about that then what's the point.
Qft. We ve had a shite season but lesser teams have beaten them, as they did us when we were in that position. Odds may be stacked against us but we didn't get to the final by losing games.

Predictable that the "I'll support whatever decision INEOS make" crowd did not, in fact, support their decision when it turned out they're sacking ETH

 that’s what happens when you over-invest into something, you become way too attached to that thing.

Whoever leaked it, doing so before a cup final is shambolic. Literally everything to do with United reeks of amateur hour management.

i don’t think it’s anything sinister. i asked my magic 8 ball 2 weeks ago if ten hag would be sacked after the cup final, and it said yes. i assume the guardian journalist has one too.

We don't know where the info has come from, but i'm just annoyed at all this noise on the eve of a cup final. I don't think it's particularly good for the fans, especially the ones going to watch the game, when the big noise isn't about stopping City or bringing another trophy home.
No matter what we did there was going to be a lot of noise. We're arguably the biggest club in the world and we're at the end of probably our worst season in PL history. If we'd sacked him early there would have been all kinds of noise, if we'd announced he was leaving at the end of the season there'd be all kinds of noise, if we'd stayed quiet and let the 'news' do their thing there'd be all kinds of noise, and if we'd announced he'd definitely still be here next season there be all kinds of noise. We picked the third of those options, but whichever we did the media (both traditional and social) would have been all over it and people would be here on this forum, on social media and in the stadium tomorrow saying we should have done it differently.

Pretty sure the leak is from one of the other clubs who were potentially interested in McKenna, given who the author of the piece is and which clubs he has good sources for historically.

Zero issue with him being sacked. Would have been better if it leaked months ago though. A day before the final ain't ideal but these things are hard to keep under wraps so it is what it is.

thought we were past these "leaks".
impeccable timing as per
It's not leaks, at least not in the traditional sense. Remember how the media regularly released hit pieces on us the day before huge games to destabilise us in Ferguson's time? Rooney's "falling out" hit pieces regularly got sat on right up until the days before we played Liverpool, then released by shitrags like the Mail. It's probably just well known industry knowledge they're deciding to release today to inflict maximal damage on us. They all have previous.

Frankly, I expect it's revenge from the way Ferguson tore apart media figures, and also Ten Hag this season banning the odd number. There are plenty of cynical, jaded hacks who want to take us down because we've exposed them for being cynical, jaded and hacky.

Surely the best for the club would be give ourselves the best chance to win the final.
This changes nothing. Ten Hag would have known. The players if they aren't terribly thick would have suspected it at least as well. We've just had the worst season in club's modern history, there was no logic in him staying. Ineos never publicly backed him although they had every chance to do so. We need to stop being this attached to managers.

Any player that can turn it on and off when they feel like it. Any player that leaks stuff about manager when they are huffing about something. Any player that has blamed everyone around them and refused to look at themselves when underperforming. I could go on.

In general, any player that tends to disrupt things behind the scenes when they are not getting their own way. Any player that is happy to sit about see a manager sacked to see if their own situation can change, any player like that will likely do it again with the next manager. rinse repeat.

Ten hag has had plenty to answer for this season, but this season at Old trafford, its safe to say plenty in the ground around me are sick and tired of these players once and for all.

Oh, please do go on.

Which players turn it off and on when they feel like it?

Which players leak stuff about the manager?

Which players have blamed everyone around them and refused to look at themselves when underperforming?

Theyre getting away with it again

Shaw
Martial
Rashford
Dalot
Lindelof
McTominay

This is the only 6 players that played under more than 2 managers at United.

I'm not counting Evans.

What it is is piss poor, an abject failure in proper club management. It's unacceptable, hugely disrespectful and extremelly poor timing.

Don't rule out a possible WWE vs WCW during the Monday Night Wars homage going on behind the curtain here. Face or Heel behaviour from INEOs, I'll let you be the judge:

1. INEOS leak this but have in reality decided to keep ETH.
2. A number of players have unbelievable games in the Final and we win.
3. INEOS gets confirmation of the players who have DTs and Radders screams "YOU'RE FIRED!" to the rotten eggs.
4. The Squad Building Attitude Era begins as mentality of incoming players becomes more heavily scrutinised again.
5. We make an unbelievable comeback and after a lot of back and forth eventually dominate City again, putting to an end The Saturday Night Wars Era through a huge amount of stunners and Stevewisers.

Definitely Erik's time now just like it was Ole's. The current performances are worse than the results and the results are already awful (8th for crying out loud)

I thought the FA Cup may have saved him, but it's good to see the club finally doing something.

are you for real? Martinez was born on halfline, he has no issue playing that high. Maguire hardly played when ETH’s first choice CB’s were fit. Then Shaw…he was mostly injured this season. What are you on about?

Gutted with the timing. Everyone knows I had a preference for him to stay but I can't argue with the end decision.

I'll be there singing his and the teams name tomorrow irrespective of the result. feck it. It's a final lets go for it.
I don’t believe ETH lost the dressing room. The development these two days might actually propel the players to perform to their maximum as a proper farewell to ETH.

INEOS is going to sack ETH
People involved with Chelsea leak the sacking without really knowing.
INEOS decides to save face by keeping ETH
People involved with Chelsea - checkmate.

Its the only thing that makes sense.

But Goldbridge is blaming the club and he's always right...right?

Bruno, AWB, Maguire, Sancho and a few others come into that list too (Ole, Rangnick, Erik)

All the centrebacks at his disposal can play a high line. He barely played our quickest defender Varane for 3 months because he fell out with him. Pace has little to do with playing a high line.

Just seen the city bus in Watford on the way to the Grove which is where they will be staying tonight. Gave the bus driver the WANKER sign and he just smiled at me. We're getting stuffed tomorrow.

They don't, the original post was refering to players getting multiple managers sacked or similar. No one got Rangnick sacked his contract ended, he was only an interim.

How are we sacking a manager after just 2 years, when the first year was great and there was no stability in the second year (both with injuries and in the club's ownership and hierarchy). Absolute fecking mess. Also a complete disgrace to let this leak before the cup final. It just feels like all the excitement for the FA Cup final has been zapped out and instead just seems like a horrible thing to watch knowing he gets sacked win or lose. At the moment Ineos's only achievement is that they are making the Glazers look good.

He's did well to get to 2 years considering the performances and results this season.

When your excitement for a cup final is lost because the manager is getting sacked, that's when you know you're way too emotionally invested in the manager and not the club you support

It's dejavu all over again, innit?

A lot of our fans get too attached to managers.
