The Greatest Athlete Ever.

I think Americans and the American media grossly over estimate the importance of their sports around the world. In all my years in the UK I never saw one minute of NBA coverage, and I don't know anyone over there that watches the NBA now. Sure a few people will watch it on a cable/satellite channel but it is a minor minority sport.

If the NBA was so significant around the world the NBA finals might get more than 25 million viewers.

the 5 years i was in the UK i only saw when the finals came on.. I dont think the UK is a NBA hotbed but the UK isnt the rest of the world mate.

see my last post

i did.. Fair point

BTW are you watching that other american pastime college football.

That Missouri Illinois game is getting wild.

the only thing close to watching a game in England are those saturdays at the old college football game

I have worked in six European countries, and had extended stays in the middle and far east. We also have friends from New Zealand and Australia.

In my experience you might get a NBA game on TV in Spain, Argentina and maybe Japan. Outside those three you would be hard pushed to tune into much NBA action. Finding an American bar in a big city or US military bases don't count.

Yeah 45-35 Mizzou, no defense entertaining though, people who dont like American football are idiots, especially the college game

Well I guess football isnt a big sport then, China, India, the US, and Indonesia arent exactly the biggest followers of the sport so I guess there are no fans there

I actually love the NFL and CF but we are in a very small minority around here. The vast majority of posters on these forums are not even aware what CF is.

So basically you have just called at least 95% of the Redcafe posters idiots, and probably about 99% of Man United supporters.

Well lets start with America. There are plenty of people watching soccer, I can watch more live EPL games here than my friends back in Manchester get to see. I know for a fact that every bar in Indonesia show soccer, and it is also watched in India. Finally China, the game between United and Arsenal last season was viewed by 600 million people, half of which were in China.

Thank you for once! I remember when I used to love college football more than anything, I was at the FSU games when Charlie Ward was QB. also at the game when Dunn beat FU. It is unreal, great atmosphere and top notch pussy

Back on track.

I nominate Jonah Lomu, New Zealand Rugby Union, he was a freak of nature.

- 6'5"
- 260lbs
- 10.89 seconds for the 100m
- Stamina to run all day
- Strength to run with three or four men trying to pull him down
- Great hands and catching ability

would you not say the same about football/soccer, just because you don't fully understand to call it shit is idiotic

Did I say it was a shit sport maybe I am wrong but I remember you saying something about rugby being shit or was it gay do you understand that sport.

No I wouldnt say if you dont like football you are an idiot if you don't like it then you don't not a big deal.

I said rugby would be shit to put in the olypics as would american football

I think NFL teams expressed an interest in Jonah Lomu, and offered big $$$ but he wasn't interested.

I can honestly say I have never seen anything like him in 35 years of watching sport. No one in the NFL in the last ten years comes close to him in terms of speed, strength, stamina, skill and size. Lots of people have two or three of those attributes, and some have four but hardly anyone has all five.

It's hard to say how it would go, no football experience he would have probably gotten hurt, if someone goes after your knee(which regularly happens in the NFL) you are out for a while doesnt matter how good you are

He was a LOT stronger than his size. No LBer in the NFL would have been able to take him down in his prime. He was also big enough and fast enough to play TE or even down filed as a genuine WR. It would have been fun seeing him run through safeties and CBs.

Honestly, you had to see this guy to believe it. I remember one run where he literally carried four tacklers for ten yards, and they weren't small guys either.

Come on a top LB could take down any player, even at 260. But he does sound like a great athlete if you wrap up below the knees they are down

I have seen him run tacklers over and that was without pads. Unless they got him really low he would be too much for most LBers to deal with, plus he was faster than a LBer as well.

BTW - I am no rugby fan. Just that this guy was a freak.

Alex are you a Nole? I graduated in 87...

to bad they are shit now.

and the ACC is shit as well.

A few years ago i went to the orange bowl when we played Penn St. Man talk about the dirty old man syndrome. ALthough there were like 60,000 psu fans the FSU girls were:drool::drool::drool::drool:

A thread about the greatest athlete, yet why are the majority of the contenders discussed from American sports.
Sorry but no American sport can even be considered to have produced the greatest ever athlete, solely for the fact that none of their sports are contested on a global scale.

You mean like baseball, hockey, and basketball, as well as the likes of golf, tennis, track, boxing, etc.

Do you realize the average NFL LB weighs around 250, runs a sub 4.8 40 yard dash and stands around 6'3"? Look at DeMarcus Ware of the Dallas Cowboys for example. 6'4, 257, fast as feck, agile, athletic, long arms, explosive burst... he has it all. I remember Dexter Coakley used to run downfield with WRs due to his speed though he was only about 5'11" yet he was a very good LB.

Are you attempting to claim these as American sports??? Golf goes back to the 1100`s in Scotland and boxing goes back to the ancient Greeks!!

Even baseball has its origins in England as it is taken from rounders.....

In that case then nothing is an American sport as all sports came from some ancient civilization or was modernized from another related sport from outside North America.

I am more than well aware of the size and ability of NFL LB's, I watch over 80 NFL games a season. Having seen Jonah Lomu play and seen LB's in action I would have to say he is a cut above anything I have seen in the last few years.

Jonah Lomu was actually closer to 280lbs, and he was stronger than his weight. So imagine a good sized DE that can run the 100m in 10.89, and has the stamina to run around none stop for an entire rugby game, and you will have a better picture of his abilities.

I am not a Kiwi, or a rugby fan, my opinion is 100% impartial.
