The Fourth RedCafe Sheep Draft

For snake, you mean?

Well, you could go Stalinist on deadlines there too. All picks (by all managers) must be submitted within a 24hr window. Then set the draft order and provide each manager with his own, personal deadline - which must be met, otherwise he gets a sheep.

That could work. As a manager you know that you must make your pick before 23:30 PM every round - and that's that.

Sounds more than fair enough to me!

Problem is when there are 6-7 picks before you it's 4pm GMT and you are from Australia for example. you can possibly send in couple of picks to the draft master of course.
AM's is the solution.

True - you'd need an assistant, or be careful to send multiple picks each round to the master.

Alternatively, one could be lenient and allow managers to swap positions in the randomized order should they wish to.

Or - put it like this: If you realize the deadline will be too much of a bother - you sit this one out, and play the next one. There is usually more interest than available spots at the start of these things.

Joga is my favourite. He will get preferential treatment.

I love it when people pretend to know what is going on.

Reminds me of that first round of mindgames with @Balu were I talked in riddles as to what I was going for and challenging him to call my bluff.

Then I chickened out and it turned out he hadn't understood the poisoned chalice reference in the first place anyway.
I'm sure you tried the same tactic on me but I smelt your bullshit. But it's good to have a mind-game or two, without the obvious conspirational side to things.
BTW I really like this deadline system and would be in favor of it being implemented for future drafts.
It's good to have a routine about it all. These Stalinist deadlines are overdue IMO. That's one of the best features of a sheep draft. It is quite intense though, in that I'm not sure how sustainable that would be in a 16-manager draft, whereas currently we have the cushion of having 20+ managers so any drop-outs are no problem.

Yeah AM from different part of the world fixes it. Ideally a round shouldn't last for more than a day so 10 or 11 PM in the evening usually fits everyone bar Asia/Australia.

Yes, you’d have to take that into account somehow - or people would just forfeit en masse after some rounds.

I think what I proposed above could work, though: Call it a failed round when the manager misses the deadline - no punishments as such, just move on to the next guy in the picking order. Then let everyone fill out the blanks in the end (give them a day to get this done).

As a playing manager you can then allow yourself a couple of failed rounds - and then complete your team at the end of the regular process: You lose out on prime targets but still get the chance to pick decent players to construct a proper team.

What I'm proposing isn't ONE fixed deadline, though (that wouldn't work in a snake draft for obvious reasons) - but individual ones based on the drafting order.

So, an Aussie could get a perfect deadline - and a Frenchman a crap one (middle of the night or whatever).

IMO we can decrement the time to pick as the draft advances. Usually at the beginning everyone is excited to the theme and picks move faster. Then when the options are more limited it's easier to pass a pick to the draft master and decrease the decision time.

For example time for round 1 - 8hrs, round 2 - 7 hrs, round 3 - 6 hrs and so forth until we get to 4 hours.

Definitely. After R6/7 or so, it's rarely an issue if a couple of managers pick ahead of you because typically you're aiming for different targets by that point. It also helps to keep the momentum going, which can dwindle in the latter stages of a snake draft.

Quite Suprised I managed to get through pick 1 but then with 8 others managing the same it seems like everyone played too safe

So brutal

EDIT: Can't wait to see what route some of you go down now

In the sentence, please replace the term Hassler by Pelé.

He meant only Tuppet was left to pick

Next round will feck with your heads so much, can't wait
