Can't agree with Stam being better defender than Silva, although in my eyes he is the greatest defender of the Pl era. For me Silva is every bit as good as all those players you named in the art of defending, combining that with extraordinary technique as well.

I didn't say he is the 2nd best, for me all of those defenders you named are in an elite group, you could argue either one of them being better than the other.

This is a pretty neat criterion for picking a keeper, as well.

I wasn't really planning on this but I didn't want to make it impossible to pick a keeper by giving another criterion I had in mind (might give it in the next round if everyone has a keeper).

I think so far the only criterion that made it "impossible" to pick a keeper was Round 2, and to an extent the height one.

Aye I know you didn't man, I was talking about the original comment.

On the bolded, really? I mean defender as in actually defending, as opposed to the complete package that Thiago is. In that sense Stam is better than most, he really had no weakness to exploit. Physically he was a complete colossus.
 
Blocking Rules

Once you pick a final, and miss out on one of the picks and get the other, you cannot change that final and have to pick from the same team in which your blocked player was picked from.

If the player has played in another final however can we select from that one, the player should be the deciding factor and not the final surely ?

Mmmm... OK, need to think about this a bit more I guess. Just really surprised the banned player isn't a bonus one. I was very close to picking a tactical variation earlier which would have then become the set formation. I guess Djemba will be my tactical variation then.

This round is a nightmare. I would love to pick a goalkeeper now :lol:.

I reckon you should be able to change, the player is the important thing, not the final they played, particularly if they played in multiple finals.

Just answered.

Say you chose the 1968 European Cup final and picked Best and Eusebio and Best is blocked, now you can only pick someone from the United squad in that final.

If a player from Real Madrid is blocked in a Kings Cup final. can I pick from any real madrid player in a kings cup final or just from that specific final?

Because i feel despite the fact they defend in different ways, both of them for me had mastered the art of defending at their relative peaks. I think Stam had a more robust style, but that doesn't make him anymore a better defender than the likes of Siva or Nesta who had a more languid style. Where Stam may go in hard and leave a mark on you, Silva could simply shrug you off and be on his way. Both achieve their initial purpose, just in different ways.

Yeah, but I get either two players I can use but dislike or 1 player I like but a 2nd one that is pretty much a sheep for me. Unless I really go for a Bundesliga theme instead of a German theme, but I got so far, I'd like to finish it now.

The funny thing is it wasn't, and in the last round only Balu and I could pick him but Balu had a keeper... Third time lucky, it's written in the stars!
