The First Redcafe Sheep Draft

Nope, you will still end up with a squad of 12 at the end of the draft. I'll explain that later, basically the guy you get from the Banned List would be swapped with one of your 12 players, not added.

And you can't swap a sheep with a banned player? So no matter what happens now, I'll be playing Hajry Redouane in midfield?

Yeah, you can swap the sheep pick in that last round if you manage to get someone from the banned list.

Anyway, will explain that later.

PAY ATTENTION

I have been reminding you lot to pick the keeper by Round 9 and so far not even half of you have a keeper. So I won't keep it a surprise anymore so that you don't blame me of screwing you right at the end.

At the end of Round 9, you all will have a squad of 12 players. Anyone who doesn't have a keeper at that point, will be appointed a Sheep keeper. Before you start relaxing thinking a sheep keeper isn't a big problem to have, I would like to tell you that you will have to replace one of the 12 players in your squad at that point, and you cannot replace a sheep pick. So be careful, you have 4 players left to add in the team, and do it wisely.

Also, this will happen before we begin the round where you can pick from the Banned List (will be explained later), hence all keepers who are now in the Banned List are completely out of the picture and will be removed from the running in the Banned List picking round, as you all will have a keeper by then, regular or sheep.

That makes no sense Aldo. On what basis does said player get chosen? I was thinking on Round 9 (if not next) I would risk getting keeper choices blocked and then get a sheep pick KEEPER. The whole removing an existing player to trade him for a sheep keeper makes no sense to me at all, certainly not being brought up at this stage.

Also, why on earth wouldn't people be able to have a pop at goalies in the banned round? If I already have a striker I can still target a replacement striker, don't see how that is different for keepers.

Round 8 Criterion

Pick TWO players who have faced each other in a cup final at the club level. Both domestic and European(or any other continental) tournaments count.

The cup cannot be a one off tie like the Community Shield, etc, should be a full tournament with more than two teams involved.

You need to provide me the link, usually from wikipedia, of the final with the two lineups.

Blocking Rules

Once you pick a final, and miss out on one of the picks and get the other, you cannot change that final and have to pick from the same team in which your blocked player was picked from.

If both your picks get blocked, you are free to choose another final.

Reminders :

1. All players must be born after 30 October, 1960.
2. You must have a keeper by the end of Round 9.

Deadline : 1400 UK time, 19 Feb or when I get the last pick.

It already is like that regardless of the keeper thing. Unless you get yourself a banned player.
Yeah, but now it is that way even if you get a banned player, because the banned player can't replace a sheep.

Internationals count as well ?

I didn't pick him coz I thought he would be blocked!

He was the only top keeper likely to be available IMO. Very underrated and rarely regarded in the same light as all those blocked in the first attempt.

You really mean domestic cups here? No European club competitions and no international tournaments?

True, that could be changed later, when that round comes. I just assumed that people won't be going for keepers if they already have one, my bad.

As for the rest, it is your choice, you choose which player you would remove to accommodate the sheep keeper.

no other comments on Leonardo/Kopke?

I thought Leo was a top pick. LB/LW (If I can replace my pick) sorted and Kopke is a very solid keeper

I think that really really hurts me now, well let's do some research.

I have been pretty generous and helpful for this draft considering this is the first one but this one needs to be a bit harsh, which is why I announced it now instead of later. So you have 4 picks left to prevent this damage.

What I'll do is not have a criterion that makes picking a keeper impossible, but beyond that you need to do you job.

Why can't the Turn 9 sheep automatically be a keeper if you haven't managed one?

Since the criteria is players who have faced each other, if one of my picks gets blocked do I have to repick both?

I didn't say it couldn't be. Of course if you miss your pick altogether in Round 9, you can go ahead and pick a sheep keeper.

That's not different from picking an outfielder who isn't a sheep and replacing him with a sheep keeper later, in practice.

The point was, if you miss out on a keeper and have 12 players, one of your non sheep picks will have to go.

What? And not swapped for sheep I assume. Then we shouldn't be looking at tactical variations at all, just a sub in the role you will target at the end?

You are being way too harsh here Aldo, not really sure what the point is either as it is largely going swimmingly for most.

Think Kopke is a great pick with some of the best GK's on the banned list, was considering picking him up to when i didn't get Buffon, but thought i would hold it out and try sneak Casillas in, this round.

Plenty?

Silva for me is the perfect CB, if anything i think his time in Serie A and now PSG has underrated how good he is, if he was playing in La Liga or the PL his hype would be more. Although he is widely considered the best CB, for me apart from Nesta there isn't many that have been better in the last 20 years, he is flawless.

Aye without a doubt, depends what you class as plenty but defenders like Desailly, Kohler, Ferdinand and Bergomi all have huge shouts for being better than Silva. Whilst Silva is a better footballer in contrast to someone like Stam the latter was a better defender and I wouldn't bat an eyelid if people considered him the better of the two.

I don't watch French football though and he may have improved since moving to PSG, but based on his time in Milan I think its a huge stretch to call him the second best after Nesta from the last 25 years.

Hmm I don't think he is underrated at all really, the hype around him has been huge these past few years.

That you can swap for a sheep, the banned list player that is.

The sheep keeper, you cannot swap for a sheep.

It was Mendieta-Baraja v M Silva-Dunga i was weighing up. Opted for the latter for their more proven pedigree but as I said, would defo have went back for Baraja later on

Ah, I see that. Still not sure what you are doing so can't tell but inclined to say I prefer the Spanish pair in this setup. I take it Lucho is on the wing now?

I think if you get more than one sheep, you deserve to play it. With 3picks per round it can't be more fair.

Again the announced GK criteria being ignored deserves a penalty.

This is not about perfect teams, but fun with teams on a challenge course!

Exactly.
