The First Redcafe Sheep Draft

I doubt anyone thought about him for the first 5 or 6 rounds

The usual "Rounds" logic of the snake-draft doesn't apply here. There's no such thing as "First Round picks" and "Fifth Round picks". For all we know the fifth round may ask for players whose name begins with A, so planning goes out of the window and every round is independent from each other.

Yeah, sure, there's a narrowing pool (this question probably would have been better once it is narrower, and more restrictive ones now) and there's bound to be a distinct difference in first, second and third attempt picks, particularly when it comes to risk aversion. That's all. There's no "he is an X round pick player" here though, just players you could do with, or not. And sheep.

I thought my post implied something similar? And we really can't start worrying about the following criterias at this point, that makes no sense. I doubt anyone has him - if we are really talking about the same guy  - on a shortlist for the first few rounds. Sure a specific criteria might make him a brilliant pick early on, but if I start thinking about that I really go mental. I'm happy if I'm wrong of course, love him to bits and would love to know that he gets a lot of credit here.

Yeah, he is indeed rather handy, particularly when it would be mental to settle on a theme and maybe even a formation with so much uncertainty on questions to come, etc. That actually makes me rule out a truckload of players at this stage just because they entail nailing your colours on a mast when you have bugger all control over what you may be able to pick later.

That's why I'm happy to take him on my third pick, works whichever way I want to go about defending and whatever other fullback I manage to get.

Unless you want to join me drafting sheep that is. ;)

I fear the day you decide to mod a Sheep Draft.

The next one is all mine. I've been saying for some time I'm done with drafts but you guys keep coming up with themes and mechanics that get my interest.

I'm off to modding, I was a brilliant mod in the All-time one, what with the complete fully updated OP, even with pretty flags thanks to my assistant ;) We even had an Awards Ceremony!

Shame this format doesn't allow for mod participation :(

I thought about changing my pick to him for the 2nd attempt, then convince someone to block glasses guy and you would get a sheep if you pick him next while I had him in my team . But I already submitted a pick and changing picks is boring, so I'll stick with it for now (probably) ;).

Only problem with that is you would be through, so why would I pick him then? 50% of it is Romario demanding bloodshed for this travesty. He even offered to send his mates from Rocinha as backup.

That's good to know, so I get him later.

Maybe, he as actually one of my top 5 viable picks for this round. You really really want to make sure I get cyclops TBH.

I'm 90% sure my pick will be blocked/already has been picked :(

Why? You're one of the few users who rate him as much as I do, so I wouldn't mind if he ends up in your team. And I don't hold a grudge because of the Romario thing . Also if I get my 2nd attempt pick, I might actually struggle to fit him in with the other players I want.

I know who you are going for, terrible idea IMO.

Ffs, that would be really impressive.

I think Chesterle, you and I are likely singing from the same hymn sheet and that's the one guy I wouldn't get anywhere near just yet because building the rest of the side could get really ugly TBH.

I only say that because I am calling your bluff my friend. Glasses will be mine.

I thought you were referring to one of those I mentioned yesterday who haven't been banned, as 90% implied uncertainty. Glasses is 100% nailed on not to join you, that's how the mechanics work. Neither gets him, simple.

I'm completely lost. I've no clue what hymn sheet you guys are singing from and I've also no idea why it would be difficult to build a side around my pick.

I'm actually thinking about changing the pick though, but for completely different reasons.

We shall see. I'm mostly messing around right now - bored at work tbh

We keep the schedule though, right, results revealed tomorrow at noon @AldoPaine18 ? In case I change my pick - which is slightly embarrassing after all the talk that I won't ever do it .

/edit:
If I have to, I'll make a decision within the next 15minutes though.

Who cares about glasses - I prefer crutches, in a figurative sense. I've just completed my first choice line-up. It includes at least one player I would bet my arse Balu would praise the living hell out of. He would be obliged to do so, in fact. And his back-up option is another player...ein sehr anständiger (und mehr als anständiger) Spieler. *

And up front, Anto - ah, Dios mio. I want someone - a particular favourite of mine for many reasons.

* Pardon any grammatical inaccuracies, it's been a while since I had German in school (but I did, actually - it ain't google translate. I'm unsure whether it should be "als" or "wie").

Mmmmm. Was thinking earlier, it's a good thing we take our time this round so we get to grips with it all. I certainly wouldn't alter the schedule today without everyone being aware.

That said, it seems there's loads of interest/participation so 24-12-12 may be a better way to schedule the attempts going forward. Not sure how that works with the likes of @Jayvin (i.e. noon GMT, midnight GMT, noon GMT, then the cycle starts again with 24 hours for the first attempt at a new question). The downside is it makes it less likely we can talk each other into making more reasonable picks than, say, five Nestas

If it's a Bavarian player, both are fine. If not 'als' is the correct term ;).

Hehe. Well played, sir. I'll stick with standard German - it seems...most objective and appropriate given the circumstances. Thank you, though - I might inconvenience you with some further linguistic queries before too long, as I'm constantly browsing German tactics web sites these days!

That spielverlagerung website has some brilliant articles, did you understand the one about the high goalkeeper line? Most of them are a bit too long for my taste, but still often a very interesting read. Feel free to ask anything you like.

Very interesting - yes! The high keeper line one in particular. I have that one open as we speak in a tab, as they say, and there is one or two terms I'd like to ask you about - I'll send you a PM tomorrow. Right now I'm busy trying to track down a full 90 minutes of Germany-Bulgaria '94. Which is surprisingly difficult.

Results will be at noon.

Maybe if all remaning managers are here and agree I can push it to tonight.

Personally I see no reason why the results can not be revealed as soon as all the picks have been made before the deadline. If someone plans to change the pick just one minute before the deadline.. tough luck. Not everyone is interested in these nonsensical mind games. It is no different to people picking after someone's time is up in normal drafts.

Do it!

Almost all of us are here.

We can start the third right now it self and end it at 18.00 GMT Tomorrow. Then 2nd picks for everyone after that

I avoided that discussion, because I never want to see that game again. What a nightmare it was :(.
