Heskey at the top..

Some interesting picks. Almost all midfielders and defenders.

I did not catch chester's pick earlier... he is going to throw a curve ball of a side here I reckon.

Interestingly I considered almost all of these names one time or another and was very close to picking one of - Laudrup, enrique, stam, Hagi, Cafu

I am very surprised certain someone is still not gone BTW. Should have gambled on him in round 2 :(

When did we decide on Emile Heskey as the sheep? Isn't there a deadline as well? With the managers allowed to veto? I think that's a pretty boring sheep.

Aldo made that call I think. You can post your option. We may be able to still change it.

So far that's the decision.

For the general purpose of the draft I'll have the deadline of the sheep the same as the deadline for the first pick of next round.

So in this case, noon tomorrow. If anyone will veto, it will change. Is yours a veto? :p

Someone is definitely going to get an amazing player in this round. I'd love to partake in blocking a player, but my favourite player fits the category and I must have him.

Is everyone okay with the revised deadline rules?

Anyway, I am leaving in a few minutes and have an important appointment today but should be back before noon. Will announce the criteria once more with the deadline rules.

The deadline for the first pick is 1200 UK time, 12 Feb.

So you can keep sending me the picks once you have decided till then. Remember to add kps88 in the convos.

Don't forget that for this round you have to provide the link of the final in which the player scored along with the name of the player.

Not yet, I just think it should be a player that actually could play. Instead of Heskey, he really could start the sheep in the picture in the op and it wouldn't be any different.

Compare it to a sheep in this round for example? At worst, you get an average player who still played a solid CL final and had the balls to shoot a penalty. Okay, Anto fecked up to get a sheep in the biggest sheep draft player pool ever, he should be punished, but Heskey? He's boring and useless.

I'll try to come up with a few suggestions during the day.

I like John O'Shea as a sheep a lot more. You can at least make up for a weakness in defense with strong teammates (a shit striker is basically useless in these drafts) and he's versatile, so there's a good chance, he can use him somewhere, if he ends up with a 2nd sheep along the way.

I'm a bit worried that we see a few 2nd and 3rd attempt picks later that are of similar quality though . Depends on how difficult the upcoming criterias are. Aldo should be able to judge that, if he doesn't believe he's too good a pick for a sheep, then I'd vote for him.

People should not be allowed to veto unless they provide a viable option

I am vetoing O'shea. He can play him at the left and if the opposition does not have a good right winger, it would not even matter. This being a United forum he will get more credit that he deserves as well.

I'm probably way too nice for these sheep decisions :(.

Can you put this in OP?

May be spoiler it?

BTW the first round of this has to be a blood bath  Anyone who sneaks in a player in the first round here is bound to get a real star
actually think it will be quite easy to get some really good players

actually think it will be quite easy to get soe wime really good players

Only if you are willing to risk letting someone have the guys who normally are first 3-4 picks in a normal draft. If you want someone that is normally a 6-16 pick, then yeah it is not that difficult

@ Aldo/kps,

I've pm'd you my pick.

In the 1st round the 2nd and 3rd picks happened overnight here. Can you reconfirm that there is a 12 hour period for my 2nd pick?

The second pick here won't start until 12 GMT tomorrow. And it can not close before 12 hours unless all have submitted their picks

i think the way to go for this round if you want to play safe is to go for a defender/defensive midfielder who would make the team anyway.

i still think there is enough room in there to get an absolute top-class pick without a hassle. of course that also depends on once perception of how older players fit in, i value the older players, as i think football has got easier over time, and it is easier for athletes now.

Agree with Crappy. John O'Shea is too generous.

@Balu I get why Heskey is seen as a borring option but he's not as ridiculous as, say a Sean Dundee and you could technically stand up for Heskey by saying he can be effective in a front two, creating space for his strike partner. Capello of all the managers, rated Heskey. Or at least prefered him over all other English forwards to play with so and so up top.

Aldo will know better than me but I see a Sheep as a player who's obviously a bit of a laughing stock but could technically be useful. But above all, is well known. Not some obscure South American player who voters don't know enough about to see his short-comings as a player.

edit: and as Stobz and Pippa said, there's a good chance Anto can bench this sheep anyway, if he avoids another sheep along the way.

Agreed. If you want Heskey in your team then just pair him with the kind of striker he can work with.

I am open to other options, but people have to give more options. Welbeck was named but I think Heskey is a better sheep than him.

The criteria is for the player to score in a CL finals match. Not many DF/DM would qualify for that!
:)

also you do realize the tournament is nearly 60 years old now. and i can name a number of defenders who scored in the finals just off the top of my head

Yeah, Heskey is by no means set in stone. If someone can come up with a simlar example, I'm sure we'll all be happy to go with that.

Andy Carroll for the sheep

he could build his team around him :p

Does it even matter who you get as a sheep? There's little chance that you'd actually use the sheep anyways.
Whoever the sheep is could just be your sub. It's worse if you get two sheeps, obviously. But the bolded part - is there a special round or something? I don't understand how you can draft more than one player in this method.

"Pick two players who faced each other in a CL/European Cup Final", for example. If both have been picked, both blocked, if only one has been picked that one is blocked but you now have to absolutely pick someone that one you kept faced.

God, we are going to run out of regular voters with all of them becoming managers or AMs.

Speaking of, Annah, you shouldn't be PMing me asking when I will go for X or Y, you are Balu's AM AFAIK.

I say it here because we really really shouldn't be doing PMs, even with "neutrals" because they are bound to go throwing stuff around various inboxes. Exclusive AMs or watch from outside, period.
