The First Redcafe Sheep Draft

Best would be picking a really shitty keeper as a sheep pick. I mean one that let every damn goal in. Then you can force him to play one of those keepers if you just keep adding keepers to someones team. :D

You're an evil, evil man Annah!

Some cracking picks in that first round. Cafu as a third pick took some balls!

looking at the list, we nearly went Vieira or Thuram in round 2, and I strongly considered Scholes for round 1. Jaap Stam is a MONSTER pick too.

I wanted Ferdinand as well. We dodged a lot of trouble with the last pick.

Yes Aldo, for both the criteria and Stob's suggestion. That was my initial idea. I really think people just need to think hard before sending to you because there might not be a chance to replace your pick.

Alright,

Round 2 Criteria :

Pick a player who has scored in a Champions League final or the European Cup (CL before 92) final. Penalty shoot outs count.

You will have to provide me with the link of the final in which the player scored.

Help yourself with this link : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_European_Cup_and_UEFA_Champions_League_finals

The Round hasn't started officially and will do tomorrow afternoon in all probability and you will have 24 hours from then to decide the pick.

The rules regarding the deadlines will also be finalized then.

Was thinking Emile Heskey?

Too good a player to be a sheep, yet one who will get instant derision. Nah.

TBH, you can either give me someone I could remotely consider playing or just some random name for the subs bench.

How about José Herrera, for instance? I'd bet my left nut none of you ever saw him, surely a sheep then? Would I play him? Probably. Heskey? Nope, there's no joy in arguing Heskey's case!

A Copa America champion and someone who represented the country over 50 times? Don't think so. :p

The very purpose of the sheep is that you shouldn't be able to argue the case for him. However you don't have to go the Bebes and Dias to achieve that.

Couple names screaming at me, but i know their so blatantly obvious someone else is bound to pick em.

I agree, brilliant pick.

@antohan who was your last round pick?

Luis Enrique.

TBH, I was fecked whichever way it went as I was juggling Davids, Lucho and Lahm as my shortlist for the last couple of picks. All three would have been blocked in the second round, and already picked in the third. I noticed Gio was likely going Davids so opted for either actually getting Lahm or hitting back at Balu for being a cnut with O Baixinho (getting him would have been much the same so whichever way it was better than getting blocked randomly).

Was very close to considering a fourth player who would have gone through but I just really wanted Lucho back on board if there was any chance he was still available. I did think Cutch may have picked him though.

Chuffed he is getting the credit he deserves at least, the first time I picked him in the 70s draft half the people there didn't seem to have the first clue about how good he was.

He deserves it. His second bit was silly and has cost him big time.

How about - Shola Ameobi.

Eh? It was awesome, at least I hit back at Balu instead of screwing either Gio or Cutch.

I was destined to get a sheep as it turns out so, with that in mind, this was the best way to get there: Gio is happy (and he was due some slack with me :D), Lucho isn't banned (I would have been livid) and Romario's ban has been avenged.

Re: 24-12-12. Time zones would be a big issue in that. OR will it be? Jayvin is usually about around noon and I don't there is anyone who can't check the caf due to time zone between noon and midnight.

Bear in mind all you need is for people to be around at noon and some time either side of it, not necessarily midnight.
  1. Question posted at noon, you get 24hs to pick.
  2. Results out at noon, you know if you need to pick again and can do that before logging off/leaving or at least know you should do so in the next 12 hours
  3. When the 2nd pick results are out at midnight you may as well be sleeping, so long as you log on before noon you should be able to see the results and vote if needed.
  4. What should NOT happen though is if there is no third attempt posting the question at midnight, that is bound to affect someone. Questions always posted at noon, simple.
1. You can't change your pick.
2. The subsequent round can start an odd hour, but will have 24 hours maximum time so everyone will be able to check anyway.

I'm leaning a bit towards the second seeing as you lot are too impatient for straight 24 hour thing.

Don't underestimate how much activity will drop as the initial enthusiasm wears off, bound to be a handful of us hanging around all day waiting for X, Y or Z to show up and vote.

You mean like Carrizo in Sweden?

You think I could argue Herrera's case successfully on here? And that he is not a sheep relative to the likes of Cafú and Thuram at RB? OK.

No biggie, just wanted to offer an out in terms of sheeps actually playing games. Otherwise it's just fun to discuss who to chuck into a team and that's all. I'm not fussed either way, I've long realised the sort of teams and tactics I like putting together don't win these things. Unless I jam my way into Beckenbauer, Maradona and Pelé, that is ;)

Cheers Anto. You were obviously the one i was most concerned about picking him. Glad you got sidetracked by the mind games with Balu

I actually had him and Lahm as third round options, going for one or the other depending on who had gone through. I was positive Davids would get blocked though, I could tell with Gio sniffing around, and Lahm looked a better bet for that second round as I either I was getting him or losing my third pick earlier at worst.

I did have a feeling you would have picked him, was very close to going for a keeper but it just felt like a copout and I would have been royally pissed off if it turned out he was available and ended up banned further down the line.

Christ on a bike Aldo, you've really screwed me over with that question now :(

On a serious note though I think there should be some entertainment value and difficulty in the sheep pick but it shouldn't really be completely useless.

Will be much funnier with a Gareth Barry in the team than an Al Saadi el-Qaddaf.

Agreed with all that.

A new round would ALWAYS be started in day time, around noon that is.

And for the first pick, 24 hours seems fine.

For the next two picks (if they have to be done) 12 hours with no changing of picks and results to be revealed when all have submitted seems fine. You have already done your research during the 24 hours of the first pick so shouldn't need to do that again and there will be fewer managers to pick. All that points to having lesser amount of time for those two picks.

It will potentially save us one day, just like today and a round would finish in 2 days instead of 3. Which seems quite an improvement.

Will finalize this after discussing once with kps.

Can we submit picks now if we know who we want ?

Those who complained about not seeing who people have gone for before, this round will take that to a new level. Total mindfeck.

I'm not going for the big prizes, a CM or a defender for me. Actually, someone who played both.

TBH, I'd rather Bebe as there's zero chance I'll play Heskey and I'm warming to Annah's hairstyle concept as a backup plan if it all goes tits up.

Or even if it doesn't, some fantastic hairdos flying about.

Does it even matter who you get as a sheep? There's little chance that you'd actually use the sheep anyways.
There will be 12 rounds in total. There might be rounds which allow you to pick more than one player.
Whoever the sheep is could just be your sub. It's worse if you get two sheeps, obviously. But the bolded part - is there a special round or something? I don't understand how you can draft more than one player in this method.

F off. I am blocking him.

I think more than one sheep will not exactly be rare.

The idea should be a less effective player, not a useless. You may as well give it a bye in that case. I think sheep players should be what we classify as squad players. Jack of all master of none. Example :

Park Ji sung
John OShea

Can do a job, but not good to face top flight opposition! If played smart, they still can be useful! We don't want hairstyle themes after 1st round, do we?

Seeing his final pick was a midfielder / striker, I vote for Danny Wellbeck as his sheep pick. @AldoPaine18

Can you put this in OP?

May be spoiler it?

BTW the first round of this has to be a blood bath  Anyone who sneaks in a player in the first round here is bound to get a real star

I am very happy with my pick in this round especially with Redondo and Keane both banned. Davids now gone too. 2-3 big names from 80s are bound to be blocked as well.
