So now the only round left is the block round, can we name everyone who weren't picked in this draft?

OP updated with all the teams and Full Banned List.

All managers got a keeper in the end so no one has to go through the sheep keeper allocation. Congrats. :D

I'll kick off the Banned List Round in a few minutes.

How are the rules now? Managers can replace their sheep as well? I think you said in the beginning that you can't replace sheep in that banned players round?

Malouda seriously?

I'd rather have Barnes, to be fair. You got me there. I wouldn't play him on the right, though.

Anyway, Malouda was a fine player in his pomp. The later stages of his Chelsea days shouldn't count against a man who started a World Cup final.

Julio Cesar, Toldo, Grosso, Gilberto, Hamann, Camoranesi, Ljungberg, Mijatovic, Ambrosini, Guti, Norman Whiteside, Kily Gonzalez, McManaman, Ze Roberto, Juninho, Riquelme, Sneijder, Zola, Kluivert, Makaay, Morientes, Owen, Trezeguet, Inzaghi were a few names i had that weren't picked

I suppose the point was getting Amoros. Would have been better off going Monaco and Giuly though.

That was indeed the point, yes. Guily? Aye, I suppose. But he's surely less of a natural fit as a left sided midfielder than Malouda.

Francescoli !!!

Really wanted him.

:(

I tried fit him in at the end but the last couple of rounds didn't help. Could have gone for the 96 Libertadores but it meant winging Popescu, and this last round I couldn't find anyone suitable to partner him with. It was always a case of going for something suboptimal and for once I let the head rule the heart.

How many players have had top of the charts songs going on about them?

Watch at 4:15, that's one of four goals he scored at Ortega's testimonial, aged 50. Yes, a bicycle kick like that, aged 50

No word of a lie, I very nearly took Neville Southall and Whiteside in the cup final round

I wanted Mijatovic as well but KM scolded me for my love of the old Yugoslavia.

Chilavert was another keeper who didn't go, I spent ages trying to confirm if Denilson was in the opposing São Paolo squad of Velez' 1994 Libertadores win.

EDIT: @antohan that is the one I wanted your help on.

If I were Balu I'd start Kroos over Basler, specially after last night.
Depends on the last round, but at the moment, Frings won't start and both Kroos and Basler are in the team.

The game last night was pretty great for me, Müller's movement for the 2nd goal and Kroos

I had Jesper Olsen knocking around from the start, could have paired him and Rooney here but if he got blocked I would end up with Saha. feck that.

I'd have taken Forlan over Saha myself...

The Banned List Round

Stage 1

Everyone needs to submit me TWO names from The Banned List, one which you wish to pick, and one which you wish to block.

You cannot pick or block a player more than once in this round. For more details, read the quoted post.

Example of PM :

Pick : "player name"
Block : "player name"

Here's the list of players you can choose from :

BANNED LIST : Romario, Roy Keane, Fernando Redondo, Alessandro Nesta, Phillip Lahm, Frank Rijkaard, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paolo Maldini, Marco Van Basten, Lionel Messi, Ashley Cole, Bixente Lizarazu, Thierry Henry, Luis Ronaldo, Lothar Matthaus, Ronaldinho, Luis Figo, Javier Zanetti, Gabriel Batistuta, Xavi, Franck Ribery, Clarence Seedorf, Roberto Carlos, Marc Overmars, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas,
Pep Guardiola, Thiago Silva, Alessandro Del Piero, Maicon, Claudio Taffarel, Gennaro Gattuso, Laurent Blanc, Guiseppe Bergomi, Petr Cech, Edwin Van Der Sar, Gianluigi Buffon, David Seaman, Tony Adams, Andoni Zubizaretta, Oscar Ruggeri, Mehmet Scholl, Manuel Amoros

Deadline : 2230 UK time, 21 Feb or when I get the last pick.

Details of this round :

So by the time the last couple of picks take place, let me elaborate on the Banned List Round.

THE BANNED LIST ROUND
The next round is what we will call the Banned List Round. In this, all managers will get one chance per round to get a player from The Banned List.

This is how it works.

In Round 10, all managers will nominate two players, one they want to pick and one they want to block from The Banned List. The player you choose to block will be blocked from that Stage (there will be stages instead of Picks in this round), and if anyone else picks that player, even if he was the only one to pick him he will be blocked.

Basically you get your player IF :

1. No one else has picked him.
2. No one else has blocked him.

Now, there are a couple of guidelines on who you can block :

a. You cannot block the player you have picked in the same stage.
b. You can only block and pick a player once.

Now I will explain the concept of a "Stage". There will be 3 stages, that is Stage 1, 2 and 3.

In Stage 1, everyone will send me the player they want to pick and the player they want to block. After the results are revealed, the players who were blocked due to duplicate picks or manager blocks will go back into the pool and there won't be another Banned List or something. So even if a player was blocked in Stage 1, he can still be picked in Stage 2.

Now, managers who get their players in Stage 1 will not "pick" any player in the next two stages, however they can still "block" a player in the next two stages. Same goes for those who get a player in Stage 2, they can only "block" in the next stage but not "pick".

Now, you can only attempt to pick a player once, same as block. Once you have "picked" or "blocked" someone in Stage 1 you cant pick or block him again in Stage 2 or 3.

So say if you pick Nesta in Stage 1 and fail due to one of the two reasons, you cannot go for him again in the next two stages.

Same goes for Block, if you blocked say Maldini in Stage 1, you cannot block him in any future stage. So plan your picks and blocks carefully.

At the end those who manage to get a player at the end of the round will be able to swap him with any player in their existing 12 man squad.

The end squads will all be of 12. That is the reason we are swapping the player picked in this round instead of adding it, to have the same squad size for each manager.

Questions/Doubts, please raise them.

One issue with Francescoli also would have been his positioning, everyone would assume he is a #10/hole player when he was effective all across the frontline. In fact, I liked him the most in his early days as a CF myself but Uruguay and Europe knocked that out of him.

Poor bloke, spent almost his entire career surrounded by shite so had to be a one-man attack for the NT. He still managed to give us THREE Copa América's, one won in Brazil in 83 (yes, just after the 82 fapfest), the other in Argentina in 87 (yes, eliminating Maradona's WC champions) and the other in 1995 (yes, beating WC-winners Brazil in the final).

That carried to his clubs who seemed to be mid-range ones looking for him to provide more of the same. Probably spent more time on his arse than Maradona, half of the material on youtube is him being fouled systematically.

This clip actually focuses almost entirely on how he was hunted down. Loads of familiar faces there acting like thugs: Junior, Leandro, Mauro Silva, Dunga...
