The first Cricket sheep thread

OK so SKills and Akshay, let me know 12th man of your team (Akshay I already know though) and we can have toss for your match. You can then send the write up by tomorrow morning UK time.

Damien Martyn. We are batting first.
Toss will happen again. But...you won the toss again! :D

@Skills vs @Akshay will start tomorrow 8AM GMT. Skills will be batting first. Martyn sits out for Skills while Alok Kapali will sing raag Bhupali for Akshay's team.

Uhmm, can some one please tell me what exactly the conditions at the National Stadium in Karachi are ? Is it a Batsman friendly pitch? Will it be high scoring? Will there be any swing for the bowlers ? Will the Pitch disintegrate by Day 3 with Cracks and general wear and tear for the spinners to exploit on the last two? I have a couple of options, so my decision on who to drop will be based on that. Thanks in Advance :)

Traditional subcontinent wicket. Batting friendly. Spin help with variable bounce towards the end.

Any chance of swing ?
Not much. It's a traditional subcontinent wicket man. As the OP says, stadiums are indicative of the condition, nothing more. So karachi is a subcontinent wicket. Just like Eden or premadasa. Lords = scg = Wellington for example.

Lords = scg = Wellington for example.

SCG I don't think is similar to the other two. SCG till now is perhaps the wicket more resembling to subcontinent among Australian wickets. NZ wickets seem to have more bounce than England ones as well, though the swing conditions are similar. The ball in NZ sometimes swings more crazily than anywhere else.

Well I'd expect more reverse swing and help for the spinners at Lord's (representing English conditions).

I agree with both of you but I thought we were simply using stadium names as an indicator and not their exact nature?

Yeah it is. Just pointing out difference between those 3. A stadium for this draft is more a indicator of overall conditions in that country.

So am I right in assuming that the pitch will be batsman friendly, with cracks starting to develop from Day 3 or Day 4 onwards, aiding the spinners and perhaps some uneven bounce ? No swing, or no real noticeable seam ?

Regarding swing, it's a little difficult to say. My understanding is that in Australia and the subcontinent, the weather can influence whether the pitch exhibits swing or reverse-swing. Just like in England the nature of the pitches varies seasonally. I think you shouldn't go into so much detail. Just assume it's a slightly spinner friendly pitch, and will become more so as the match wears on.

Ok thanks:)

Ok, here goes. With great trepidation, I have decided to name Thommo as my 12th Man.

@Mani has won the toss vs @Ijazz17 . Decision? Jeff Thomson is 12th man for Ijazz while Ian Smith carries water for Mani's team.

Mine might be later in the day though. I'm feeling under the weather, so will probably check in early today and if I go to work tomorrow, I'll only be able to submit by around 3 Pm GMT. Is that ok ?
OK, will start after your write up is submitted.
