The first Cricket sheep thread

I learnt a new cricketing term today, "mankad", it's when a bowler stumps the player at the non-batting end before he has started to bowl. Anyone know where the word comes from?

From an Indian guy called Mankad who took a wicket like that in a match vs Don's side. Everyone was fuming at the guy except Don who said rules are rules.

Yeah, it's called Mankading. Happened in the U-19 CWC couple of days back.

Yeah, I saw WIs knockout Zim at the U19s in some highlights. It seemed very very cnutish but I can see that it is the rules though.

It was extremely unsportsmanlike imo. I bet the WI team would have been scuttled for a lot less if the Zimbabweans decided to do that a couple times every over. Would still be 'within the rules'.

Long time back Kapil run out P.Kristen in similar fashion, after 2 or 3 warnings.

I have no problem when the batsman has been warned and is clearly abusing the situation. In the WI case though there was no warning and the batsman was barely out of his crease, such that it was a tight call for the third umpire also.

Yeah, should be warned once. Running him out first up is highly cnutish, rules or not.

I heard they went on to carry out wild celebrations. Poor form really.

In that case benefit of doubt should be given to Batsmen, but.Poor umpiring i would say.

What he means is it was out but by a small margin. So the decision was correct, no doubt about the decision.

The umpiring was spot on. On-field umpires had no choice but to go for the 3rd umpire when the appeal was made. 3rd umpire had no choice but to give out because the bat was on the line.

Got it guys.
Shame on WI part, and celebration following after that.
Whatever i understood at the time of Kapil /Kristen incident was, there should be some warning from bowler to non striker btsm before he does this.

And the 'Mankad' Rule seems perfectly legit to me. What I didn't like was that it was used in the last over. That is really cheap. If the non striker had been well of his crease, then he doesn't deserve a warning from the bowler, and I would have supported the bowler. But this was right on the line, could have gone either way (By either way I mean if he knocked the bails a fraction earlier or later). Zimbabwe were probably robbed of an entry into the QF there.

Didn't buttler get out like this vs SL or something?

True but I think he was warned earlier. England have been on the recieving end a few times. Buttler one, Stokes handling the ball and an Ian Bell (I think) run out vs India a few years back.

Quarter Final replenishment pool R3 results:

@RedTiger and @Akshay get a sheep each. You guys can PM me which cateogry you want the sheep to be (Batsman, bowler, WK etc)

He'll probably wait to get RT and Akshay's preferences before posting the picks.
Doesn't really matter what others have picked while choosing a role for your own sheep, plus they're not gonna be in the starting XI anyway, everyone has a legit starting XI now.

Fair enough. Some people have landed absolute tier 1 legends, can't wait to find out who.

Why does our picks matter when it comes to RT and Akshay picking their sheep btw? Out with the list

So, I am thinking of letting everyone know the match ups (with ground) first and then let everyone choose XI? How does that sound? :)
In R16 we had done other way.

Important/update

Harshad - Opener + bowler/all rounder

Skills - Opener + pacer

Ijazz - Opener + wk

Aldo : bowler + ? (suspect he will go for murali)

Prath: pacer + bowler/batsman/all rounder.

RT : wk + pacer

Akshay: spinner + pacer

This was my prediction in our chat before people had submitted lambs. Eerily accurate for most parts
