feck off.
Oh wait a minute, does that mean that i won't have to get a PS3?
This is a good sign. Last time i saw the post i simply glanced at the title!
Trust me, you will want to get the PS3 version.
And I know you're a massive FF fan (Rightly so), so I'm guessing you want to play FF Versus XIII?
You won't be getting that on 360!
They have always been staggered in release, with Japan first, then North America when done in English, and then Europe when done in the other main languages. 4-8 months between each one. You can always import the Japanese version.
Final Fantasy VII was:
Japan: January 1997
North America: September 1997
Europe: November 1997
Hmm, shithouse.
I assumed they'd bring Versus out on the 360 also.

Best Buy?
There's something slightly amusing about this photo. I can't quite put my finger on it though.
Hannah Montana not on a Nintendo platform?
Do you agree with me Lambs me boogie that maybe FF XIII is a mainly linear game and XIII versus isn't? Thus the multiple DVD thing would not work?
It is disc swapping, but what I mean is if it totally changes the way FF games have previously worked? It is more sandbox rather than linear paths (even if multiple)? GTA meets Final Fantasy.
I can't remember the likes of crystal chronicles having that much fmv to be honest, although it's been a while so I may be wrong. It's just something that got me thinking - that a report out of the SQEnix event said that it was seen that they have now shown a part of the old trailer for versus and it's no longer film quality pre-render but realtime. This is odd for a FF set piece. Maybe it will be the first FF since the Playstation days to not use FMV? I'm not saying that it will lack cutscenes, MGS4 has those, but they were apart from two (I think) rendered in realtime.
All FF games have been sandbox to some extent, I doubt anything would change that. I'm wondering if Sony have still actually paid for exclusivity on that one. IIRC isn't FF13 supposed to be in three parts, not two? Having only one going to the 360 isn't as big a blow as some fanboys make out in that case, because anyone who wants the complete experience would need a PS3 anyway? It's all speculation of course, but if S-E made such an announcement over XIII (the main game in the series) going to XB360, why not versus as well. It makes no sense, unless it was sandbox.
AFAIR FF VII was on 3 or 4 CD-ROMs Lambs. I think that XII was on a single DVD.
That many? I can't remember, I'll have to dig mine out.
Anyway disc swapping didn't seem to stop that game letting you go wherever whenever you liked (although the main story was much more linear than it should have been).
The mystery deepens........
Perhaps this ws the new major PS3 exclusive? I mean it did get leaked on the 3rd August?
Or perhaps I'm just dreaming too much.
VII was 3 disks, VIII was 4, not sure about IX, X was one DVD, X-2 was one and XII was one.
As far as I know XIII will be on one, and 10 on the 360.
I thought the remake and/or games in the universe of 7 was common knowledge?
All that has been shown for PS3 was a tech demo at E3 some years ago, and that was thought to simply be a demonstration of the White Engine (now renamed) for XIII.
I cannot believe they are going to just release a PS3 remake of FF7, not a spinoff, but FF7 without even saying so. This prospect has had FF fans salivating at the mouth for years.
Allowing you to buy it on the PS Store, fair enough, but why would a retailer need to promote that?
I was of the belief that continuation of the world of 7 was a definite, I think they said it at the time too.
As for the remake, I think it does hold some water since for a very large slice of the fanbase, that's where FF started for them. Remaking it would take a smaller team and I think it would sell shitloads, easily as much as the current versions do.
I just hope they leave 6 alone though, that just needs to stand as it was.
Agreed. I left 6 too late but even now i don't think i could adapt to a change of that proportion without being in the mindset of playing a completely different game.
7 is a different story and i believe it's possible. A ridiculous amount of copies of the game would be sold, too so i'm sure it'd be worth the effort as far as the manufacturer is concerned. Even that picture gets me giddy at the prospect of it and to be quite frank, i find it quite difficult to control ejaculation when watching that technical demo.
Yep, i really am that sad.
6 is the pinnacle of the series and is very unlikely to ever be bettered. It's all just getting too watered down, but they remain impressive spectacles none-the-less.
There are enough people like you to make the remake worth it. However, I'd expect more of a true sequel than a straight remake.
Final Fantasy XIII is still a ways off, and most all sources have a "TBA 2009" release date for FFXIII's counterpart, Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The latter is still a PlayStation 3 exclusive, by the way, and Square-Enix just confirmed it would have a worldwide simultaneous release. They didn't give us a release date...but maybe a couple major retailers have let it slip.
First up, in perusing GameStop.com on a completely unrelated venture, we found that Versus XIII had a pre-order ship date of December 13, 2008, which may or may not be nothing more than a placeholder date. You know how GameStop loves to hand them out just to up the pre-order number, right? But then, a PSXE reader sent us a tip that Best Buy boasted a similar date: December 15, 2008. Now, because Square-Enix hasn't confirmed any release date, we can only treat this as rumor, but it's quite the coincidence that both GameStop and Best Buy say Final Fantasy Versus XIII is actually coming out this year...
This would be one hell of a time for the game to arrive; it means yet another hot PS3 exclusive will be available for the holiday season. We can already expect the likes of Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet; is Square-Enix tossing its hat into the ring with Versus XIII? Let's hope those dates are accurate!
