What's your favourite single-player FF?

Just got back to Alexandria Castle and rescued Dagger. I'm loving this game to be fair. The cast of characters is top notch aswell, right through from Queen Brahne and Kuja to Zidane and Freya. Vivi is still my favourite though, and Steiner is growing on me a lot too. The levelling up and ability system is good fun to work with aswell.

The only thing I'm not too keen on is Trance, it rarely happens and when it does I don't find it to be very useful. A minor issue though really.

Almost forgot, the two airplane names in FF IV were Falcon and Enterprise. Does anyone know that this was because of the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars and Enterprise from Star Trek?

More than likely, seeing as Biggs and Wedge the recurring characters are named after the guys from Star Wars.

Does anyone else remember the very first time they saw the ballroom FMV near the start of FF8 with Squall and Rinoa?

Considering it was in the latter days of the PS1 never have I been so blown away by a cut scene, and never have I been more attracted to an imaginary character :)

So I had just been running around inside Sin collecting some of the treasures when I bump into a Behemoth King. His Meteor took out my whole team. That's a lot of random battles out the window.

So good. There's an orchestrated version of it out, too.

The FFVI OST is an amazing achievement. I really don't know which one's my favourite, but VI's is one of the best without a doubt.

Chrono Trigger is an incredible game.

As to your question, meh, the FMV means feck all really.

I've finally started this game. It is excellent so far. Storytelling has nothing on FF7, 9 or 10 currently but it's gotten really good very quickly. Amazing soundtrack too.

What's struck me is how good the graphics are...they must've been absolutely amazing for its time!

Started playing ff9 again 2 days ago. Just finished the first disc and all I can say is;

a) I love the game. Brilliant and beautiful
b) Why the feck did they give you Quina before the Burmecia part? It's all highly tragic and then there's this mood breaking wacky big fat thing with it's tongue hanging out wanting to eat everything

I get the need for a comic relief character but Quina just seems so out of place compared to the other characters that have such depth to them.

Music when you are catching frogs is cool though.

Steiner is a far better comic relief character than Quina is!

All I'm saying is Quina was a massive mood killer while Freya is distraught at seeing what has happened to her home.. they should have designed Burmecia for 3 characters and introduced Quina as one of the later characters so you are never forced to have him/her in your team, but that is a massive nitpick, the game is brilliant.

I am liking VI very much, it's look so much better than IV, and I am still at the beginning (Terra just left).

You don't have to have Quina with you at that point, you aren't forced to get him/her until later on in disc 2. Thing is most people won't just ignore the swamp and will get Quina earlier meaning you get the slightly awkward moments in Burmecia.

I wasn't expected a that complicated game. The Espers thing is probably as good as materia in FF 7. A little more pain in the ass, cause you have to teach some magic spells to multiple characters but it is a superb system. Loving it so far.

I agree with what has been said about Quina. That said I like his character in battle. Though I'm just looking forward to when I actually have a full party to choose from. I miss Steiner.

Not had chance to play much this week. Back on it today and I've just reached Black Mage Village. It's definitely making a claim to being my 2nd favourite FF.

Quina and Vivi getting married is the best thing to ever happen in an FF game
That was brilliant, I literally laughed for a minute at that  I'd forgotten all about it. Quina does have some good moments, in fairness to him/her.

Just got Eiko, looks like she could be a very good character indeed.

My favourite character. She's far better than Dagger in the support role, IMO. Love using Carbuncle while she has an Emerald equipped. Madeen is a great summon when you get it too.

When i finish Uni for the summer i'll finally be able to get my DS back. Then i'm going to get hold of a GBA copy of FFVI because it's brilliant and also get the DS version of Chrono Trigger as i hear it is absolutely fantastic. I've seen that FFIII and FFIV are also available on DS, anyone know how good those two are? Worth picking up as well?

Cheers, will get on it tonight after work. X is my favourite, didn't really play much of the series after, except for a bit of X-2.

Both are good games in their own right; if you're looking to play some of the earlier stuff then give both SaGa 2 and 3 a try too.

Played it a couple of weeks ago, and it is a very good game, though not as good as VI or VII.

Ok, thanks for the replies guys. I may well just do a big batch buy and get them all at the same time. That'll give me something to plow my way through!

I think I might go for IV on the DS after I've finished Chrono Trigger. Remember my mate saying it was completely remastered and a fantastic version. At the same time though, all these posts about FFIX are getting me nostalgic! So much good music on that game:

I've only just realised now that there's a load of music that was supposed to be in the game that was released but taken out. The following one for example from the comments was meant to be for a battle against Brahne/Beatrix at the Lifa tree. Would've been good.

Bit annoyed to see that there's a DS version of Chrono Trigger whilst already being mid way through it now, but that looks largely the same game so no worries there. I am looking forward to playing Chrono Cross a lot already.

Yeah i was going to try and get Chrono Trigger working on my PC until i saw there was a DS version, it'll be easier for me to just wait and get the DS one. Means i won't be getting distracted by it either!

I heard Chrono Cross isn't as good as Chrono Trigger. Still pretty good though as far as i know.
