Anyone played the remake of IV? If yes, then what would be your advice, should I play the original one (like I am thinking) or to play the remake?

Also, how does it take to beat the game? 50 hours like VII, more, or less?

I played IV on GBA. Don't think there is much difference, bar slightly better graphics and perhaps some translation corrections. Can't say how long it last because I played it with accelerators.

Go for it. :D That's a classic.

One that probably goes under the radar a bit because it wasn't Uematsu:

Brilliant - shame you only hear it once (I think...just before Djose) whilst playing. Must admit that even though Uematsu didn't do the whole soundtrack for FFX, most of the tracks that Junya Nakano and Masashi Hamauzi did were absolutely quality. I had never heard of either of them before but their contributions definitely did not detract from the quality or the atmosphere of the game.

Another one I loved was the music to the Calm Lands:

As a bit of an Uematsu fanboy, I was sort of put out that he didn't make that.

He is God. Not surprising that every YouTube video of one of his tracks comes with its own running argument in the comments section as to how shite the games are now that he's not there (not the only problem obviously, but his soundtracks were so good that they genuinely added something absurd like another 50% to the game).

Delighted to see that he wrote that Via Purifico track, I always thought it was the other two. Had to edit that comment up there in case it was misunderstood when I said 'it's not one you think of'. It's definitely one of my favourites of the game - suited the atmosphere of that part perfectly.

The battles with Seymour are among the best on the game. The battle music makes it that much more intense as well.

Seymour was such a good villain. FF games get this so spot on. Kuja, Sephiroth/Jenova, Edea (Ultimecia), Kefka, Seymour, etc... they're all so fecked up. Always with quality music to go with it, too.

I think this is my favourite from any FF, I don't think a theme captures the moment of a game as much as this one does. Absolutely stunning from what is probably my favourite part of the game in VII.

Ye I've done both, my party always ends up consisting of Cloud, Barrett and Cid usually. Enjoy using Red XIII, Vincent and Tifa aswell. Was never too keen on the other characters, though Yuffie's final Weapon was useful for stat building.

In my last playthrough I named Cid 'Tifa' because I'm hilarious like that.

I also always strip Red of his XIII. Ain't nobody got time for numerals.

I am pretty sure in all my play throughs I never used Cat Sith unless I had to.

Christ. Was sailing through this play through but just got killed for the first time by 3 hits from Seymour Flux!

I remember he was a total nightmare the first time I played the game. Took me so long to defeat him.

Out of interest, I have only ever played Final Fantasy VIII (My first and favourite) Then I dabble with IX but never really got into it, then played and bought FFX(I think it was 10, the one where you have to play a mini game similar to Quidditch, throwing balls through a hoop). Other than that, I have played FFIII, the new android version.

Only FFVIII really made me love it to bits, I think mainly for the fact it was such a smilar game to Pokemon, the idea of battling enemies while working through a story, collecting 'GFs' or 'Pokemon' etc,

Question is, are there any better Final Fantasy games than 8 that I haven't played involving some of the reasons listed? Also, are there are any other games of note that are similar to FF and Pokemon in the way I said of? I'm pretty secluded with games, I have played a few, but tend to repeat that few over and over such as Football Manager, Fifa, Dungeon Keeper, Warcraft and Final Fantasy VIII.....

Many people consider VII to be the best. I'm playing through it now for the first time and it's pretty good.

Have only played FFX and FFXIII before this one. FFX was good but didn't blow me away and FFXIII was very mediocre.

Maybe I don't grind as much as I should do playing through X, but the only way I could beat Seymour Flux, and that machina golem thing when heading out of the calm lands, is by getting all my aeons up to overdrive and unleashing them one by one. You have time just to use the overdrive before he banishes them. I can manage to survive a while but I never tended to do enough damage to him.

FFVII was the game changer but most FF fans who have played several usually have their own favorite which they consider the best that is not VII.

Mine, for example is IX

The things is, I don't think I've been grinding particularly hard. I think I've just become really familiar with the game so it has felt a lot easier.

If I'm being honest, I reckon I had become very complacent by the Seymour Flux battle and was punished for it. When I play again tonight I'll properly plan the battle

VI is pretty much considered the best ever by more people than any other, and is always pushed as possibly the greatest RPG and even game of all time. It certainly was more of a masterpiece of it's time than any other.

The thing is, it does come down to what you play first and the emotion that one makes you feel. So if 8 was the first you've played, then that's a valid opinion it's the best since they are all of a high quality. But, saying that: 6,7,9 and 10 are all better games overall than 8 for me and 4 is on par with it, so you have plenty to choose from!

I didn't like IX much when I first played it, but now I love it. 8 I thought was incredible at the time, but now I see that was distorted slightly by the huge graphical leap from 7.

What really annoys me about 8 is that disc 4 is a write off from an exploration point of view, all the towns get some magic bubble around them stopping you from going there. So word of warning to people going to play it for the first time, save before going into the Lunatic Pandora! There's also the exploitable junction system that meant I had 9999 health for all characters just after arriving at Deling City. The also exploitable card game meaning you can have full invincibilty for the duration of the final boss fight. The over reliance on GF's and spamming the Square button which makes almost every battle the same, and the dull draw system for getting magic which you'll never use apart from for Junctioning because you're spamming GF's and Limit Breaks.

Apart from all those things I really like it.

VIII is the missing title for me in the 'modern' era of Final Fantasy.

I was 10 when I got Final Fantasy VII in 1997. I absolutely loved it but found it very challenging to the extent that I never got off the first disc. I can still remember sailing round the oceans in the Tiny Bronco looking for a location that I hadn't been to. I just couldn't find the Temple of the Ancients.

After a 2 year gap I bought Final Fantasy IX. I don't think I've ever felt such attachment to a computer game. It really is wonderful from start to finish. Comedy and tragedy delivered in the right doses at the right times and a cast you could really engage with.

The sound track:

Only minor, minor criticism is that it was perhaps a tad easy.

Having completed IX I went straight back and played VII. Much more rewarding when I was 13 or so and had a good understanding of rpgs by that point.

Thats wierd, i had heard that people like 7 best, as I say I haven't played many. However, I notice I bought 12 (XII) Back in the day, have never played it, is that any good?

When I say 'any good' I suppose what I liked so much about FF8 was the junction system, having something to catch and cast (GF's) and the battle system, the idea of fighting against opponents etc, as I know at some games they removed the battle part's or tried coming away from that...

Any thoughts/ recommendations based on that? So basically a game with a battle system of some sort where you can collect/ train animals/ GF's basically, as I say a Pokemon / FF8 Game...

Collect and train animals? FF XIII-2:nervous:

I never thought much of IX because I thought Zidane was a complete dick. I love most of the other characters, especially Vivi but I hated Zidane with a passion which may have blighted my opinion of the game. I might play it again and see if it grows on me.

Tbh he is the only proper main character out of 7, 8, 9 that I like. The others are just typical JRPG shit, metrosexual, angsty and 'mysterious'

Zidane just felt like a classic hero, which made a nice change.

Let me know about IX, and I have heard bad things about XIII-2, when it goes all online n that aint it?

Have you played FInal Fantasy XII? I have it in the shelf and have never played it but don't want to waste my time, has anyone had any experience of this game?

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100831212717/finalfantasy/images/b/b4/Ff12_logo.jpeg

XIII-2 isn't that bad, it's much better than XIII but a lot worse than 4-10, there's also no online in that. XI and XIV are the online ones.

XII was ok, personally I feel it's got the weakest cast of characters. Balthier and Gabranth are alright but apart from that they're pretty forgettable. Also I would not advise playing it on a large HD TV, so many pixels! The battle system is a marmite thing, I didn't get on with it. You can choose preset attacks that happen under certain criteria (ie use cura when your HP>50%, or use lightning against flying enemies) or you can do it all manually.

I'd give it a go and see how you go with it, especially if you've already got it sitting there.

He's still pretty mysterious, I mean he has a tail for crying out loud! Then again there are also human sized, clothes wearing talking rats and hippos so I suppose a tailed bloke isn't that mysterious.

XII is worse than XIII for me. The story and characters are about as boring as it gets. I did quite like the Quickenings though.

Five hours into FF 4, and I am having trouble to adapt to 2d. The story seems good though, but not the fighting system. The materia system of 7 looked superior to me than just learning magic skills in this. Also, does in every FF game you have to save your love interest from the baddies in the beginning?

Now you see why I suggest the 2D 4 before 6

As always though, give it time.
