Oh and Auron is up there with the best FF characters in the entire series.

Utter utter bad ass. Also hit like a freight train.

The kimahri was the weakest I thought. I also liked the Rkku backstory.

I'm trying to play through XIII but I'm finding it really hard to get into. Don't like that battle system much.

In FFXIII-2 I'm just about to head to Academia 500AF to take on Caius.

My monster pack isn't exactly the best. Any ideas?

I played most of the game with the green slime with a flashing light on it's head as the healer, a small blue floating cuboid thing for magic and a chocobo of some colour or other as the tank. Got chichu later on and I wish I'd got it earlier, you level it up properly and it's a machine.

Currently working my way through FF3 again but on the phone and then I'll give Dimensions a go, I've only just found out they remade SaGa 3 for the DS which was the first "FF" I played on the gameboy yonks ago before playing the SNES games. Them were the days, after 10 they lost their way (could be said that they lost it earlier than that) trying too hard and in the process sacrificing gameplay and story for graphics - and those films they've done, let's not even mention them.

Surprised they haven't cashed in on FF7 more with a crappy remake, I think they will though as their swan song when it's the last thing they have to fall back on before finally going under.

Finished the game.

I did the chocobo quest, and created my GOLDIE. I got all of the four materias in the cave, though I didn't understand the use of HP<->MP materia (it is impossible going into the battle with only 999HP). Couldn't kill Ruby and Emerald, they were too strong for me. Though I think that if leveled up more, going into level 99 (finished the game on level 73) and mastering mime/quadra magic so to have duplicates of them, I could have probably killed them.

The final fight was just easy. Read after it that if you have all characters on level 99 and use Knights of the round on Jenova Synthesis, then Sephiroth could have 400000HP. Anyway, in my case he had only 80000. I used Knights of the round on him, and was prepared to mime it with Tifa, but the fecker turned Tifa into a frog. Anyway, after he used supernova, I countered him with omnislash which finished the job.

Finally, I must say that it was a great game and one of the best I have ever played, though I probably liked slightly more BioWare holy trinity (Kotor, ME and DA:O), but nevertheless there were about 55 hours of great fun (the second longest game I have played, after DA:O and it's DLCs). The soundtracks were amazing, especially the Aeris one, definitely the game with the best music I have played.

Looking forward to other final fantasies!

Congratulations guys, you've made me find a way to emulate FFX. There's a real possibility of me fecking up my studies now. Well done.

Just got Chichu earlier. Gonna put some work into his stats as they look quite good.

With Serah and Noel I've managed to max out the bth of them in 3 categories (Commando, Sentinel and Synergist for Noel and Ravager, Medic and Saboteur for Serah) so getting the monsters right is now top priority.

Also helps having a shitload of fragments to find. Monster Material heaven

I never did kill all the dark summons, that's something to do when the HD remake comes out. I'm gonna hold off playing X again until then.

Neither did I. Managed to kill Valfor, Shiva and Ifrit but couldn't take down all the others. I could have done if I used Yojimbo's Zanmato but I don't think that counts.

I went with using power items on the big nodes so he just ended up ripping through everyone. I also used a guide to know which monsters to merge him with. As for others, green chocobo is probably the best medic and the frost cube ball thing is the best ravager.

I had a level on FFX with about 100 hours gameplay and my 3 main characters had 255 on all their stats before my friggin console broke. Was readying them for the dark aeon quest. The only ones I've never beat are the Magus Sisters, Yojimbo, Anima and of course Penance. I'll do what Xander's doing and hold on for the remake.

FFX can be completed in the same amount of time as FFVII but the side quests and grind to beat the super bosses is far more time consuming.

This thing of having optional bosses which are more powerful than the final boss is pretty unique on FF, right? While Saphiroth was pretty easy, Ruby and Emerald looked unbeatable to me, and all strategies to beat them were very time consuming and get you away from the story.

Not sure about unique, quite a lot of JRPG's have optional bosses. It makes sense really, they don't want you to have to grind your character up to level 100 just for the quest alone, so they introduce these for the more hardcore who are willing to do that and try get all the best equipment/magic in the game.

Ruby and Emerald are nothing on Penance in X, or especially on Yiazmat in FFXII. He can take around 2 to 3 hours to kill, even maxed out. You're actually able to save your game in between portions of the fight!

I never found Emerald weapon all that difficult from what I remember. Ruby was the bitch because you basically have to fight him with one party member. Did you get the underwater materia?

I never actually completed VI, and I must've started it about 4 different times. I'll get there one day.

That's Nobuo Uematsu for you - pretty much every single FF score is a masterpiece. Aeris' theme really is something pretty special and is definitely top 10/20. Shit, I shed tears at that part when I was a 6/7 year old playing that for the first time. Seeing that scene and fighting Jenova life with that same music in the background was ridiculously emotional.

If 8's the next one up, you're in for a hell of a soundtrack there too. You really could have endless debate as to which one has the best soundtrack without a satisfactory conclusion ever being reached.

7 has the better music at the EXP and Gil Screen. Other than that, take your pick between the two.

Although saying that, the battle music when you play with Laguna and co is fecking top notch.

DAMMIT, you were right...

So true, Laguna's was amazing.

Sheeiiiit....

There were all sorts of classics on 8. Some of these songs are so good I half wonder whether they should be spoilered...;)

Dunno, I wasn't full leveled up and the fecker killed me with just one shot. Ruby was invulnerable if I got there with all my characters, and when I went with only one I was hurting him but still he was too powerful.

Really, don't know what to do. I still don't know if I am continuing with VIII, IX and X, or listening Lambs and go with IV and VI.

What?? There are even stronger bosses that Ruby and Emerald? feck me, I have played some games but I never seen a boss that strong as those two.

The only thing I will say on that mate, is playing 7 before 6 will most definitely have skewed your thinking on that game, I'm almost certain you'll come out of it thinking 7 is better. That's fine.

But if you want any chance of really appreciating it and open your mind, then 4 will set you up nicely for the masterpiece that is 6 and I'll definitely say 8 won't help!

But, and this is a bigger but than JLo's, they are all epic so if you just want to do 8, then go for it. Just make sure you at least experience the older ones, as 4 is better than some of the later ones and 6 is called the pinnacle by many for a reason :)

I'd suggest playing VIII next the IX simply because graphically it's the natural progression from VII so it's less of a shock. If you have a PS3 then I'd suggest going for the snes era ones(though you may want to play the GBA versions) after that and waiting for X HD remake to come out. If not then play X instead because I think it's best.

If you want to go through all of them, I'd go for IV and then 6 and not the other way round. Graphics are obviously hugely dated but they're still quality Final Fantasy games. Don't miss out on what's to come after 7 though whatever you do. 8, 9 and 10 are all incredible and all have soundtracks and stories of comparable quality. If there's any doubt as to whether you'd enjoy the earlier ones, then I'd go straight for 8 onwards just so you don't lose the feeling to do so. You will have more fun now playing 8, 9 and 10 now I'm guessing than 4 and 6. That's not to open up the debate as to which games are better, but I think that's a realistic way of looking at it.

Decided to start VI again, seeing as I'm bored shitless. Last time I got to the World of Ruin before my PS3 broke.

Let an emotional journey begin.

I seriously love Final Fantasy X

I'm just up to this point. One of my favorite pieces of music in one of my favourite locations of the game.

Shits about to get real as well any time now

Throw in Donna and Yunalesca and there was a lot of boobage going on in that game.

Oh and one of my favourite ever FF songs.

*snip*

See that's what I really liked about FF8-10, they all had a "main theme" and a lot of the other tracks in the game were remixes or contained parts of that theme. So when the main lyrical song played it worked well cause you'd already heard bits of it throughout the game. Examples,

FF8

FF9

FFX

Then in 12 they randomly stuck some X Factor winners nonsense over the ending and claimed it was the games theme song, pah.
