Just rent a cheap motel room and get it over with, you two. This is the Final Fantasy thread.

I've got 7 on the VITA - it hasn't aged well at all! Why does it get so much love? The size of it?

I'm hazarding a guess you've never played the game the whole way through? It's a stupidly good game and nothing after has come close to beating it (except maybe X, I do have a soft spot for that game, despite the awful voice acting).

I don't know about 5, it was good at the time (being FF and all), but it was definitely the most samey. 4 is definitely the one to go back to though, in fact Revan if you are going to go and play them, play 4 then 6.

Oh and 6 is the best of any platform. But we won't start that again

Probably for the best.

Yeah, that was my impression of V after a while as much as I enjoyed it. When I say most amusing, I mean in terms of the dialogue. Good humour to that game.

Yeah, I think you are right there.

Though 6 did originally have plenty of humour and nudity too, but it was watered down for the American market.

I believe there is a rom knocking about that is the original Japanese version, with actual fan translation. It makes less sens (as you can imagine) but is pretty much the original game intact.

Naked 16-bit chicks ahoy!

The random battles are killing me, I am spending more than half of time in them. I am at level 30 currently and just finished the quest in Nanaki town. Until now I am not having a problem to deal with the boss fight.

Oh, the soundtracks are amazibg.

It's the PS1 version fool!

I think that VITA is one of the only devices where you will be able to play the entire series up to 10.

Didn't know it. If I can't play them on an emulator, then I must borrow Vita from my 9 years old nephew. Cheers.

That boss in the Cosmo Canyon is quite easy, healing him hurts him.

Some of the bosses can be tough without the right set up, or know how.

Didn't know it, so I killed him in conventional manner.

White text mate :p

4 has some really great moments in it,

although by the fifth noble sacrifice I was wondering who was gonna be left by the end!

Some great music too, but that really should go without saying,

Thought the ending to 4 was crap.

I didn't like Golbez being controlled by someone else and turning good before you even have a proper battle with him. And him being revealed as Cecil's brother seemed unnecessary.

Talk of amazing soundtracks and FF4 reminds me of this:

My mate showed me that about a year ago and I was absolutely blown away by it.

There should be more covers like this...the beat goes amazingly well with Uematsu's melodies.

Nobuo Uematsu + hip hop = :drool::drool:

And another from FFIV. Best cover of the main theme I can find, although I don't know why it says Enya.

I have recruited both Yuffie and Vincent. Anyway now I am gone pretty far in the story. Cloud being a clone was pretty unexpected, though I had some suspicions about him, but him being Tiffa's childhood friend didn't allow me to think that Cloud isn't Cloud.

Aeris dying is one of the most memorable scenes in video game history. But unfortunately (like in Revan's revelation case) I knew it before (well I remembered a photo from wiki when I was watching game's rating). Though it has been some time I had my suspucions that Aeris will die, but I never thought that it will be so early in the game. After it, I was pretty depressed and didn't play for about a day.

And I almost forgot, now I have an airplane though Cloud isn't in my party anymore. Am I in the middle of the game yet story wise? I am at level 52 and have played for 32 hours.

Story wise you're probably over half way now but there's a big jump in difficulty between the last quest (bosses and mobs) and anything before it so you'll need to do some levelling in between to get up to scratch. You'll go over 50 hours easily.

EDIT: Actually level 52 is quite high for that far into the game, you might be ok.

I have yet to be killed in a boss battle though I would have lost from Jenova Death if I hadn't have equipped a water ring cause I wad totally shocjed from Aeris death. Bosses haven't been bosses at all 'till now, I am killing them for fun. Let's hope that Weapon would give me a challenge.

Have you been spending a lot of time leveling up?

That's usually a mistake in FF games. It's normally best to balance the game yourself for a strategical challenge.

It's not that I am deliberately leveling up but there are a lot of random battles. Also enemy skill materia is helping, especially with Big Guard and white wind skills. Add to it the best weapons and it's not that difficult. Same as in Kotor games when I died about three times at all, though here is a little more difficult.

Think yourself lucky, I'm playing through the very first one again, so don't mention random battles!

Don't say to me that there are other FF games which have more random battles.

Number 1 has the very worst dungeon for it, there's an incredibly aggravating one where it has a few long paths with an excessively tricky battle every step.

Most annoying! But still great fun, you really need to get an emulator and play these (the the GBA version of 1&2 is the best to go for).

I am thinking to play 6 to 10 (if I can find them on emu). 8 is on windows so that is the next game I will play after I finish 7. Which are the best of 8 byte graphics after FF6?

Sounds like the two optional Weapons will be your challenge -they are far, far tougher than anything you'll fight during the main storyline. You will need to be very strong and prepare a hell of a lot for them. There's a sidequest for preparation that you'll want to do that is pretty much stuff of legends. :D
