I can't even remember anything about the storyline of 12. Music wasn't great either, though the Gilgamesh battle remix from 5 was fecking amazing.

I like XIII-2 so far, better than XIII after a similar number of hours. Characters and plot are largely bland and forgettable but theres more freedom than in XIII and the battle system and leveling up are fun (basically exactly the same as XIII), the addition of monsters to your party is nice too. Its nice to be able to explore a little, take on sidequests and chat to characters instead of a never ending supply of tunnels to walk down.

I'm much preferring it to 13 as well, having the monster training bit and even a little Golden Saucer-esque area (although with nowhere near as many things to do) makes it a lot more enjoyable and feel less of a grind.

I've just been levelling up my Chocobo to take it racing.

Final Fantasy died after FFX IMO. FFXIII is awful and I just couldn't get into FFXII and it's not only because of the combat, something was just missing...

My top 3 are:

FFIX
FFVIII
FFX

I started FFVII long time age but never finished it, must play it again, don't remember the story at all.

I loved the FF on the PS1, FF VII was my favourite game ever by some distance... but lost all interest when in computer games when i discovered girls and alcohol. Now i have finally am all settled in my own gaff i have invested in a PS3 and was going to buy FF XIII-2 but was just wondering if it is worth it if i havent done FF XIII first?

The reviews seem to be by large shite for that one so cant be arsed wastin my time doing it, doesnt really seem like i've missed much since i've been away

It's very repayable. Played it again on my psp a few years back via an emulator.

Hmm, I think I may be a bit obsessed. I've just downloaded every single soundtrack/OST all the way up to FFX-2, including piano covers, DS versions, remixes, orchestrated symphonies, Uematsu's Phantasmagoria and even the Advent Children soundtrack (which is fecking amazing, obviously).

Nobuo Uematsu is a musical god. It's an absolute tragedy that he no longer composes for these games.

FFVIII was my first and the one I remember most fondly. Recently jailbreaked my iPad and I am playing it again on there. Though the quality doesn't seem too great, its good to play it again after all these years.

I've had them all for years and they do get a played rather frequently. It's music that just takes you back to different points of your life

Yeah, definitely. It's probably the music I get the most pleasure out of listening to given the nostaligia, and also given what particular songs mean in context of the plot and characters.

I've just come across an absolute beauty that I hadn't heard before:

Definitely not in FF8, that version - it's in some random album Uematsu released seperately. What a beautiful take on Eyes On Me that is! And as for the following:

Finished XIII-2, good game I think, much better than XIII. Always lots to do, places to see, sidequests and things, not so insanely linear like XIII was. The characters are OK in the end, although the story is a little forgettable. The ending is bullshit though, guess they're really going to milk every last penny with DLC, soured things a bit.

After seeing the FFX thread i decided to start playing FF XIII and later on will play XIII-2 (Have had them a while but never played because of the bad reviews on XIII).

I feel like i'm watching a movie so far and now and then having to fight battles which aren't challenging or exciting in the slightest. It would actually be good if it was just a movie.

EDIT : Oh, the characters are pissing me off too. There is no fun person like there usually is. The person that cracks jokes or acts like a moron just for the hell of it. Instead you have that fecking Vanille who talks like she doesn't know where she is actually from and who runs like she has prosthetic legs and is struggling to balance on them. Then there is that Hope guy who sits and does nothing but cries every 5 seconds and how he hopelessly fails at telling Snow he's a dick.

The characters are all twats in FF13, unfortunately. No depth, no real personality, nothing. They might as well have just imported characters from Hollyoaks.

Okay, after playing it a bit more (Now on Chapter 5) i have realised that to enjoy this game you have to try and imagine that it isn't actually Final Fantasy. If it was called something else it would be an okay game, not amazing by any standards at all but good enough to play through. On the FF scale it's shit but on a general level it is okay.

The music is laughably bad though, when you play as Shazh and Vanille in Chapter 4 the background music sounds like a dodgy 80's porno and his afro and her looks make you think they're about to start banging any minute.

I seem to enjoy all of the ones which people seem to hate though, FF8 was my first so i've always enjoyed that more than the rest, and i actually enjoyed 12 aswell, i thought the story on that was pretty decent and Fran was fit.

I got XIII-2, it was dirt cheap so why not. Now I didn't particularly like XIII but I plodded on to the end with it but I'm about an hour into this one and I just can't wrap my head around how much they fecked this series up.

7-9 were top draw, 10 was alright because it had blitzball and Auron. The older series that were re-issued were also great fun.

They should, no NEED to go back and look at what made those games great. Keep the big animated setpieces but do away with the baby sitting combat and annoying levelling system. Also create some great characters again.

10 was utterly brilliant. Very good storyline, and their characters were great except Tidus who was a dickhead. I found the lore very interesting, although a bit confusing at times ... I just don't understand where they went from there though, like you said.

I'm tempted to go back to 12 and give it another go. I didn't mind it too much, I think I just went into the game with exceedingly high expectations after the 5 year wait we had.

Don't remember it being a bad game at all, just not in the league of its predecessors.

And I just realised you said XIII-2 and not XII, ah well.

I hated XIII. Run straight, fight, run straight, fight, run straight, fight boss, run straight, fight. Rinse and repeat. I gave up after about 15 hours.

Disappointing news about FF13-versus. RIP Final Fantasy. :(

8 was never 'fecking shit'. Class game, great storyline, brilliant sountrack, myriads of sidequests, etc... It's also probably the easiest and most rewarding FF if you know how to use the junctioning/Card refine systems properly.

That's probably the only annoying thing in a way, to be fair. You could get stupidly strong really early on, and the only two battles that were difficult/complex were the Ultimecia and Omega weapon ones. You could easily get spells like Tornado, Curaga, etc on disc 1, and all you needed for those were 2 of the first four summons (GFs)!

I just bought FF7 from square enix on the pc. Thing is that i can't save as it says there is no save file. Does anyone know how to sort this?

I think that's what took people away from FF8, I used to have 9999 health by the time I was in Deling City and you could get 99 invincibles from Laguna's card to make the final battle almost impossible to lose (not like FF10's final boss that was actually impossible to fail against). Also disc 4 was basically a crock of shite. You couldn't go to any towns as they were all blocked off by some magic barrier nonsense so having free reign of the Ragnarok was basically useless other than to go to the Island closest to Hell and getting to level 100. Battles turned into a case of "let's just watch the GF animation and smash the square button" as well.

But all in all I love FF8, it's probably my favourite despite all it's sins, and to give some love to disc 4 the music in Ultemcia's castle is awesome. Then again almost every track was great before Uematsu left.

Replaying XI now, favorite game ever. I remember going ape shit once because after losing my memory card I decided to have a little play, the little play ended up with me getting midway through disk 2 before being killed by Beatrix without a saved game at all, I went fecking mental.

I don't think its possible to get that sword on the Pal/European version of IX. It plays slightly slower than the NTSC version so its not actually possible.
