I wasted so much time yesterday playing Triple Triad it was ridiculous. I always liked it and considered it the best FF minigame but never bothered to go for every card or anything like that, but yesterday I was determined to get every card I could and ended up playing against Zell's mother for his card for over an hour

I still have the discs mate, and a PS2 to play it on. It's just the quality of the picture on my big tele isn't as good even through the component cables, whereas the quality looks better through the PS3.

I have my 7, 8 and 9 discs and a BC PS3 but I want to replay them on the PSP, they look awesome at its resolution.

I havent played a Final Fantasy for yonks and never played 8 at all... Im tempted to buy this on PSN...

After about 3 hours trying over a few days I FINALLY won the Seifer card from that bastard Cid. I swear the computer kept cheating. And then the very next game after I won the Edea card, result!

Triple Triad gets really tricky when you start getting the obscure rules added.

It's after you come back from space that it's the bugger. They use random, and that's the only way to get the Laguna card which proves so useful come the end of days.

Feck. I'm on that lunar base thing and after ages of trying I've finally won both the Alexander and Laguna cards which I've heard are very difficult to get... but at the expense of my Minatour card! Damn game.

They're the only chance you get to win them. I'm almost certain that any cards you lose in Lunar (thus not allowing you to win them back if you advance with the game) can be won again from a certain player in the game. Rinoa's father I think.

I may have dreamt this though.

This is a very, very, very long shot. But does any body have a final Faantasy 7 save game they willing to send me. Basically, i started playing on the PS3, and obviously now i've moved country i no longer have my PS3. Today i realised i actually have the game laying laying on my hard disk somewhere, but can't be assed to play through the start again (even though i was not very far in at all.) I'm just looking through a guide to try and find the point i got to, but i'll probably have to start again.

I have one but I've done everything on it, and just need to go to the Crater and kill Sephiroth, so it'd be pretty pointless sending it you. If you want it though I'll send it.

Nah, it's my first playthrough of FF7 ever (still) so i don't want to miss any of the story really.

I've read through the guide quickly, everything seems familiar up until a point called "cave of the gi" so i assume that is as far as i got. I'd be looking for a save around that area of the game preferably. Probably wouldn't mind if it's slightly before or after, as long as im not repeating or missing too much.

If it's your first playthrough then I'd advise starting from the beginning again. If you're upto the Cave of the Gi, it'll probably take you about 6/7 hours to get there again.

I found a save for Cosmo Canyon. I may start again anyway for stats and item reasons etc.

Are there any PC mods you'd recommend just to make it look better etc.? Nothing that would be seen as cheating though. Cheating is for John Terry, not me.

luckily that's only 30 mins or so from the Gi cave! The story becomes fecked up after that, in a good way though, just a bit more difficult to follow.

The card minigame in Final Fantasy 8 was so, so shit, but it doesn't stop it being the best Final Fantasy by far. I really wish I could have porked Quistis, though, since she was a billion times better than Rinoa, who just pissed me off.

My big gripe with VIII is that it is ridiculously easy. You can became extremely powerful early on in the game aswell with a little know how. The materia system in VII is yet to be out-done.

I also didn't like the way - and this is a problem with all Final Fantasies, as they follow the JRPG tradition of just introducing random shit they don't bother to explain - you suddenly ended up on a spaceship full of aliens. Also, the labyrinth the minotaur brothers were in, and the random castle you get Odin from. Oh, and the undersea research centre you get Omega.

It's something that occurs in all of the games, because for some reason Squaresoft think that the gamers don't really want those things explained to them - they just want to understand the main storyline and visit some cool but random places on the side. Personally, I like everything to have a coherent back story, even if it's a bit whacky, so even the "sidequest" elements at least fit in and can be explained away, enhancing the lore and story as a whole. But that tends to be the domain of Western RPGs rather than JRPGs.

Haven't played the PC version so can't help you set it up but I remember reading about some mod called Ultima Edition or something that makes all the character models more detailed, like the little blocky characters look like they do during battles. Have a search for it.

Couple of hours ago I got to the bit where they send Squall and Rinoa into space and I had to pause and think what the hell was going on for a second and if I'd missed a cutscene as it just came out of nowhere  This part of the game is the most fuzzy for me in terms of remembering what happened in my first play through and its not doing a great job of explaining things this time either!

Ultima Edition is the one i "obtained." It doesn't do what you said, but it does come with a lot of handy things basically to help the game run on newer systems. I also found a load of save games in there, although apart from the Cosmo Canyon save (which is with Cloud at level 20) all the characters are maxed out to 99.

It's annoying because i think my Cloud was around level 25ish when i got to that point. I'm going to decide whether i carry on with that save, or just start again.

I might actually get round to finishing it this time because i have no other games to play. It's weird how when i downloaded it on the PS3, i loved it, but all these modern games took my attention away. Hopefully i can get back into quite fast.

What 3 characters do you use for VIII? I usually use Squall, Zell and Irvine but I fancy a change this time.

Please don't continue that save game where the characters are levelled at 99, you'll take a lot of the fun and enjoyment out of the game. Stop being a lazy bastard and start again!

 I've deleted them don't worry. I only have the level 20 Cloud one. The save is also "official" because there is a reported crash during a cosmo canyon cut scene on the PC version, which means if it happens you can't continue the game. It's best to be safe and use that i tihnk, i'd hate to get that far and not be able to continute further if i started again. It would probably make me stop playing altogether really.

I always used Squall, Selphie and Quistis, but that's mainly because I fancied the feck out of those two women when I was about eleven.

Bear in mind, too, that there's parts of the game where you have to control the "other three", so don't just shove all the shit ones away somewhere and ignore them.

With the junctioning system though, you can do that and then when it's time to use them you can make them just as powerful as your other characters if you know what you're doing. Also if you have learnt certain abilites from the GF's you can make loads of Curagas and boost your health right up. As I mentioned earlier it is easy to become far more powerful than where you're at, so it doesn't really matter if you 'ignore' the other characters.

Usually by the time i reach Deling City i've got the magic creation skill that turns tents into curagas. Which means each character has 100 curagas on HP junction, which also means i have about 5000 hp each, which at that stage in the game makes you a tank.

Hmm I don't know which mod it is then as I just recalled the name Ultima Edition but I've seen videos of mods on youtube with the little blocky characters gone so I think it can be done! Don't know more about it though,

I've gone with Squall, Zell and Quistis. Squall was a moron for going after Rinoa and not Quistis!

And hallelujah, Ive just won back my minotour card from Ellone! I refused to move on with the game till I got it back which took ages and a lot of games against her lol. Now I've got all my good cards and Alexander + Laguna. Now I think I've got that bit with the aliens on the ship which for some reason I remember being the most difficult part of the game, I think I was stuck there for ages back in the day.
