The F1 Thread 2014 Season

Has anybody looked at the Bonus Selection on the Fantasy League.
You can get bonus points for, guessing who will do fastest pit stop and winning race margin and a few others , worth checking out.

Everyone seems to love the new Williams livery. I love the old Martini livieries and I do thing the modern F1 shape is very difficult to work with in terms of re-creating a classic livery. I don't think this is a particularly great livery, so much empty space and not particularly memorable, that being said its still one of the better liveries on the grid this year.

Would be great if Williams rebound.

Yeah, I noticed that the other day when changing a driver or two. Thought you all already knew about it so didn't mention it. One of them should be easy points if it stays the same choices all season.

Joined the League. Can you change plans - 40m to 45m or vice versa - through the season?

Given that Williams were found culpable for his death, with Patrick Head himself being found guilty of manslaughter by an Italian court, I'm not sure that's in the best taste. The only thing Williams are famous for as regards Senna is killing him.

The aero on modern F1 cars has made Eau Rouge (that corner, @Pogue Mahone if you're not familiar) not really challenging any more. Those other cars will have had a far trickier time of tackling it, whilst the F1 cars can take it full speed.

Cool video though, and yea the comparative speed is insane.

Nope. With 40m(STR1) you can change drivers before every race but with 45m(STR2) its fixed from beginning of season.

I don't mean switching drivers. I mean if i wanted to change to the 45m plan instead of the 40m at some stage in the season would i be able to?

Says a lot about the acceleration as well though, considering that it's not so far after La Source and they're already going 150+.

Definitely.

It's always been the deceleration that impressed me most about F1 cars though. I remember standing at the entry to Ascari chicane at Monza as they're braking from one of the fastest points on the calendar and being amazed at how late they brake. Not the slowest of corners but the rate at which they lose speed is incredible. Not to mention the noise, I stood there for about 10 mins of FP and my ears were ringing for bloody ages!

Will be interested to see how Vettel copes with a crap car (at least what's been reported). Looks like Lewis Hamilton has a real shot at winning the title

Rule Changes

Drivers will be asked to choose their race number, between 2 and 99, for the duration of their career in the FIA Formula One World Championship. Number 1 will be reserved for the current World Champion, should he choose to use it.

Double drivers’ and constructors’ points will be awarded at the final race of the Formula One season in order to maximise focus on the Championship until the end of the campaign.

They have no idea what they are doing, no idea.

Neck-car (NASCAR) is trying to do something similar. At the last race the top 4 in points will fight it out for the season title, whoever finishes the highest wins the title. Desperate attempt to create drama for the final race. In the end they are losing more fans and people are caring less about who wins the title.

Like being a kid playing football in the park for hours, the score gets ridiculous like 30-6 and then someone declares 'next goal wins', the losing team gets it rendering the previous efforts completely futile

Anyone up for this again?

I've set a RedCafe league up if so: league number is 1136 and the password to join is F1redcafe14.
I set one up ages ago, I did post a message.

Hope I am not stepping on anybody toes.

Nope not at all Paul, don't worry about it. I'd completely missed that. Will join yours instead and get rid of mine.

I've entered this one for another forum, never tried it before but it seems to a bit more flexible as everyone more or less starts off on the same footing.

Looked at thatone , your £100m does not go very far.

OK, should be a cracking season

I think thats kind of the point though right? Everyone starts off with crappy stuff and then as the season goes along you get prize money to upgrade, website is kinda vague on how it works but I'm assuming its like that.

I think your right, or you could start with one top driver.
I think I will give it a try, could be a slow burner.

Looks like McLaren will have a different livery at Melbourne.

Looks like it might go back to the old West style which would be great, thats a classic livery.

Wonder if they'll put driver names on again like they did with Kimi and Montoya in '05?

That would be ace, I always liked that.

Mercedes could win by two clear laps in Australia warns Christian Horner who admits RB10 may be uncompetitve until European leg
Not sure I believe a word of it, the Red Bull is not that far behind, if it is behind at all.

You know when Horner is lying, his lips move.

To be fair I think its clear Red Bull are struggling, there is sandbagging and then there is madness and it would be madness to hide your pace in winter by doing less than 20 laps a day and breaking down a lot with a totally new engine spec. Renault goofed, those teams will pay for it probably all season. There is no way Mercedes are 2 laps ahead of the rest though, no chance.

Could be a very interesting 1st race of the season.
Problems with the Renault engines and Red Bull not up to speed yet.
Rain is also expected for Melbourne on Sunday.
Not looked forward to an F1 season this much for a good few years.

I wonder if there will be loads of moaning about Mercedes dominance if Hamilton wins by a mile all season...

Vettel has called this years car Suzie....wonder if that's a cheeky reference at wanting to be in another Suzi....? ;)

Can't wait till the first race is underway. Hope that I can get back into it this year as at times last year I was turning it off.

I don't get it!

Anyone care to make some uninformed predictions?

Hamilton win, Williams podium, McLaren and Ferrari top 6, Red Bulls both break down in the first half of the race.

If the Red Bulls are that far down i think Vettel might get pissed and crash into someone doing a risky overtake.
