The F1 Thread 2013 Season

Who loves Webber on here? I think the majority think he's quite shit and hasn't been any good since 2010.
Well, love is probably a bad choice of words and I wasn't really talking about his quality as a driver but more about his character. Everytime he has a dig at Vettel, he's described as this honest guy who just speaks the truth and was fecked over by his teammate, when he has been just as big a cnut towards Vettel for years as Vettel was towards him. It's just weird.

There is a whole lot of stuff thats gone on behind the scenes in that team for a number of years, until we get a candid interview or a book we probably won't know what but I suspect Helmut Marko had a lot to do with it.

I just watched Rush and am curious about the inaccuracies of the film. Did Hunt really punch the journalist who asked question about Lauda's face and did Hunt feel any guilt that Lauda had his face disfigured?

Not on the BBC and its a 7am race, yeah....I'm not getting up for this one.

Sounds like off throttle blowing again, would explain why the thing has looked on rails for the past few races. Convenient they came back from the summer break with massive improvements when everyone else stood still.

Be glad next year when they make them have new engines, single exhausts and put them central.

When he starts on pole, he is never caught. Ever. And I don't care how good you are, that isn't normal. Singapore was ridiculous, he was nearly 3 seconds ahead at the end of the first lap and we are all meant to go "Wow, what a great driver!". Sorry, but 3 seconds ahead after a minute and half isn't normal.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if they have a system that they can use in spurts, particularly on quali laps and at times when they need to create gaps. Also, how come all of a sudden Red Bull constantly have gearbox issues? Those are homologated units so why are they now developing issues?

The shit would really hit the fan if it is found they did use an illegal Traction control.

Except everyone and his dog knew they had a dodgy-as-feck front wing in 2011 but because it passed the tests when stationary, nothing could be done. Even if Red Bull are doing something technically illegal (as it looks), they'll have framed it in such a way that it's beating the tests.

Basically, where everyone else takes the rules and uses their smarts to figure out how to make the best car they can within them, Red Bull just outright break them and use their smarts to figure out how to conceal it.

It would certainly explain why Webber has been slow when his KERS was intermittent. Funny how it only happens to him though...

KERS is there to be a power delivery system, not a fecking traction control system. I don't care how they have bent the rules or worked out a genius solution, if its what they have it wants banning immediately.

I hate TC.

Two ways of seeing this, they're either cnuts or geniuses for making the rules work in their favor.

Depends on who is involved.

When Brawn made a loophole work to his advantage he was lauded, I suspect if this KERS theory is accurate Red Bull will be lambasted.

Lewis is fastest in FP1 and 2 so far, his car is looking fast.
Sky were talking about Red Bull and they are saying it is a traction aid that Red Bull and Renault have been working on and it has been there all season, just that in Singapore you could hear it more because more people are stood on the corners, and the sound is hemmed in due to the way the track is set out and it is very legal.

The comment was a bit dickish but Rosberg hasn't half overreacted there.

This was pretty funny though:

"Overall a pretty solid day, we had no issues with the car, and there is room for improvement - especially once we turn on the Traction Control," Vettel quipped to Sky Sports News

He's not really going the right way about stopping the booing, now the drivers are getting sick of him too. I know and you know he's being sarcastic when he says stuff like that but you would be amazed the amount of people that will take comments like that the wrong way, being a sarcastic twat myself I know all too well not everyone gets it.

Halfway through an Eddie Irvine documentary. Comes across as a bit bitter. He was better than every team mate he ever had apart from Schumacher apparently. But that was only because they let Schumacher do more testing and he wasn't very good at setting the car up

I saw a bit of an interview with him the other day, he was talking about how overtaking has basically been made too easy with DRS and how it used to be that when you saw overtakes you knew it was talent that made it possible whereas these days that's not always the case.

I'm actually laughing out loud at this. Schumacher had insanely slow reaction times apparently.

And as for the DRS thing I could possibly see his point, there are times when its been made too easy, especially double DRS zones at some GP's, but I also remember too many processions where a fast car has been stuck behind a slower one, ruining any chance for a race. I remember Alonso lost the championship a few years back after being stuck behind some midfielder

I always thought about restricting it to a driver being allowed to use it maybe twice per race. It would stop the excessive overtaking in a straight line, but would also stop sights like seeing half the field following Jarno Trulli around the track for 20 laps (it was always fecking Jarno Trulli).

Edit: He's talking about DRS now. I'm assuming you saw an extract from the documentary

DRS wouldn't be half as bad if they knew how to correctly place the designated areas on track. Most of the time its completely overpowered, it should offer the chance of an overtake and the majority of the time it just gives the driver behind a free pass. Spa was fecking ridiculous this year because of it, most of the time because of the massive tow off Eau Rouge the car behind was already making an overtake before he even got the bonus of DRS.

I'd do away with it altogether but if we have to have it then do it right.
