The F1 Thread 2013 Season

Remove RBR and F1 becomes interesting again.

I'll never understand comments like this; does Vettel being out front make these battles for positions any less exciting?

Great racing is great racing, whether it's for P1 or P12.

Aside from the Hulkenberg & Hamilton scrap it was another dull race for 2013 sadly

The last few laps were great to watch but I am thinking about the WDC.

Great racing is great racing but of course it's more exciting if the battle is for the maximum points.

Well done Lotus, great race from them

Red Bull not only make the fastest car, they operate better than the rest as a team. Their pitstops are always amongst the quickest, their strategy is usually spot on and they manage a race better than everyone else. Yes having a car quicker than the rest helps but they rarely slip up on strategy.

Mercedes on the other hand might be the dumbest feckers on earth, or McLaren. It seems to follow Hamilton who desperately needs to find a race engineer with a fecking clue. 4 seconds a lap slower, but hey lets leave him out there for 5 laps anyway and let his team mate catch him, oh look his front wing just failed in front of him, don't bother telling him to let his team mate go though, oh an don't bother pitting Hamilton first depsite the fact he's now 6 seconds off the pace.

I bet he is proper pissed off, and he should be because he should have been 3rd easy and has ended up 5th with everyone going "heh, Hamilton had a bad race" when in reality his team had a bad race.

Agree with all this, Red Bull are in my opinion hated for making the best car and having the best driver, the best pit crew, they have the perfect set up in every way, its up to the other teams to catch up to them.
Mercedes treatment of Lewis today was baffling and I bet he will be livid at it.

Have we ever had bleeped team radio before?

I was laying in bed and even I knew they should have pit him the first time he said the tyres were gone, they hung him out to dry today.

In hindsight if had pitted there then he would've been in a great position after the safety car. But no one knew that would happen but yeah still it was a bit weird. He was just so much off pace. To be fair Hamilton let Romain and Hulkenberg pass him so he wasn't great anyway.

It's not even a hindsight thing, at the time the SC wasn't predicted so it was straight strategy. If they pitted him immediately he would have maximised his chances, once they left him out there it was game over because he lost nearly a whole pitstop in 5 laps. Just dumb thinking, displaying a complete lack of race awareness or quick thinking.

Can't wait for this season to end. Will the new regulations make much difference next year?

Impossible to say at the moment, works team will have an advantage due to the engine change but Newey could produce another WDC winning car.

Red Bull basically are a works team with Renault now anyway. Fairly big reset though, top teams should still remain the top teams but the philosophy of the cars will change and that usually means a shuffle.

I thought that was the race of the season bar the nailed on first place for Vettel. Lots of drama, a lot of overtaking, I really enjoyed it and think some of you have set the standard for a race a little too high.

Things of note for me:

  • Button made a superb recovery after his wing got damaged.
  • Can Di Resta actually finish a race anymore?
  • Sutil is the new Grosjean, very clumsy of him
  • Webber is a true Aussie and turned his car into a huge portable BBQ
  • Fantastic race from Hulkenburg, I really hope McClaren open their eyes, get rid of Perez who is useless and sign this boy up. He will be a future world champion if he joins a top team, which I know he will.
  • This season is all about the middle of the pack now, Vettel's unchallenged race is boring me to hell.
