The F1 Thread 2012 Season

Alonso's got this one covered, hes got great traction through Turns 2 & 3 as well as a good top speed without DRS.

Jensons last stop was a stunning 2.4 seconds, thats fast.

Lewis has to retire, thats his afternoon over.

The finger into second, as long as JB hangs onto the podium I will be extremely happy.

cnut! On the replay he passed him off the circuit.

A German in Germany in a Red Bull, no chance he gets penalised for it.

The stewards statement earlier sounded like they wanted to penalise Red Bull but couldn't find a way within the text. I wouldn't be surprised if they took the chance now.

It was a good move, he didn't cut the circuit short. It'll be cretinous if they take it away.

Running off the circuit is just as much illegal as a cut, he just floored it out of the corner where as if he took it properly then he wouldn't have made the pass.

Thats a total joke, he was well off the circuit to complete that move, no part of Vettels car was past Button before he drove off the circuit to do that pass.

If the rule is about cutting the circuit short then fair point. If not then I think it's that he wouldn't have made that pass had there been a wall blocking the route.

You could hear JB and Seb talking about the overtake there.

The cutting rule is irrelevant, its a runoff and they have been penalising T1 runoffs all weekend even in clear air.

It's bullshit because they use the space there and go out of the circuit every lap. They should penalise everyone for consistently cutting the circuit then. (or taking advantage of the extra space there, to be precise)

Besides he was at least level with Button and was clearly faster.

How is it bullshit? He went off the circuit to overtake another car, had he stayed on he probably doesn't make that pass.

There is only space out there because thats the circuit, if it was a gravel trap he wouldn't do it would he?

Level? yes and? Still went off to overtake.

I was being mildly sarcastic with it. The rules don't say "as long as you didn't make the circuit shorter than you can do whatever you want lads, gg".

Not all four wheels. There's a difference between running wide and running off. The rules stipulate something about that IIRC, as it caused some trouble a season or two ago.

He was level with Button because he'd accelerated mid-corner safe in the knowledge he could outrun Button on the outside. Don't be disingenuous.

Had he stayed within the confines of the track he'd not have got past him at that point. It's as simple as that really. I'm a Seb fan but that's worth a penalty.

Never saw this at Silverstone and think it's pretty shit. I'd rather just a standard podium and they do the interviews with the press to avoid immediate controversy.

Looked a great move to me and Vettel was clearly faster. If it's a penalty then great, don't really care, I'm not anyone's fanboy.
The outrage here is funny though. You'd say he's cut half the circuit short to overtake Button.

Didn't Hamilton get away with doing some identical to Rosberg a few races ago though? Rosberg pushed him wide so Hamilton just drove onto the runoff and went round him (it was on a straight iirc). Hamilton got away with it.

But then, of course, we've seen over the years in F1 that there's one rule for the Brits and Ferrari drivers, another rule for everyone else.

overtaking off the circuit is a great move? He only manage to pass when he floored it with all 4 wheels off the track and the irony of it all is that Button had given him room to finish the move on the track, had he stayed on the track he probably would have legally pulled off a pass on him.

I dont see how any of it is bitter, people want to see drivers race to the rules, now I wont deny there is a high level of dislike for Vettel on here and I cant stand him but this is not about people being bitter towards him, this is about him gaining a higher podium place with an illegal move on the final lap of a grand prix of course people are entitled to be angry about it. And if it makes us seem bitter then so be it, God forbid we want to see the rules enforced.

No outrage here. To the contrary, there's a group of Caftards in agreement at an incident and one who's harping on about it, making up new rules and racing directives in the process.

Vettel was clearly faster, yes. This is because he accelerated mid-corner, knowing that he could use the run-off. How you can call someone abusing an escape route a 'great move' is beyond me.

For the record, I'm a Ferrari/Alonso fan. It's just blatant to anyone who watches the sport that he overtook off the track.
