The F1 Thread 2012 Season

overtaking off the circuit is a great move? He only manage to pass when he floored it with all 4 wheels off the track and the irony of it all is that Button had given him room to finish the move on the track, had he stayed on the track he probably would have legally pulled off a pass on him.

He went on the outside, clearly a difficult route (and his only one) and kept at it. That's what I meant by a great move, not the going out of the circuit thing.
If this was any other driver I'd be saying the same.

The rules are the rules though, I just didn't think it would be such an outrage. Not really sure why I'm arguing this.

Ah okay, I agree going on the outside was a fantastic move and it looked to me as though he had nailed it which is why I was confused/shocked/angry to see him floor it when off the circuit but yeah going on the outside at the hairpin is a fantastic pass to do.

I was gonna say Horner is lieing through his teeth but his teeth are all over the shop anyway.

Horner has just said that "Jenson ran him wide" and that "Seb was ahead of Jenson before leaving the track"

Now I know Horner is going to defend his driver and its right that he should do but just look at all the McLaren boys refusing to comment until the decision has been made, cant Horner keep his trap shut until it has been investigated at least.

Yeah Horner really is talking out his rear here, especially being in charge of a team that effectively ran an illegal car, perhaps should have just said no comment.

Video, for anyone who (like me) didn't see the incident at the time:

When they slowed it down, he was correct. My point is that it doesn't matter by the time he went off the track, Vettel clearly started accelerating and loosened his steering lock. It's obvious that Vettel intended to use tarmac that wasn't officially part of the "track" before he had to do so under duress.

Ok guys, you rubbed it in my face.
I watch formula 1 since forever really and I can't quote it but I remember similar overtakings not being penalised. Obviously the rules are changing constantly and I can't assume something that's been legal (or overlooked) 10 or 20 years ago is legal now. So apologies to all if I irked you too much. It just seemed not that big of a deal to me.

Exactly, he squared off the corner way before the corner exit thus giving him massively better acceleration.

Vettel didn't really cover himself in glory with his comments to Sky then either, his and Horner's defense is weak.

There have been yes, even as recent as Spa 2009 I think when cars would just run off at Turn 1 and out accelerate everyone down to Eau Rouge. I think the Hamilton/Rosberg/Alonso incident at Bahrain this season concreted the change of rules, but really this was quite different because Vettel made his mind up way before he was alongside on the corner exit.

Just seen that Jensons second pit stop was a new world record, stationary time was 2.31 seconds.

The right decision for sure, happy to see that given to the finger.

Relegated to fifth seems a bit harsh; should have just given the place back to Button.

That said, I don't dislike Vettel but I fecking despise Horner, so I'm glad they've done that just to piss the cnut off.

My reasoning for a 20 second penalty is that is the amount of time a drive through penalty would have been.

Mindblowing that pitstop when you look back at it.

Yep. This summer has been great in terms of sports. So much stuff to watch these two months. Haven't really missed the premier league like the other summers with nothing else to watch.

Traction track with slow to mid speed corners, not expecting anything other than a Red Bull or Ferrari victory or possibly even a Lotus if they finally hook one up.

What the feck is going on here?

Everyone on softs in Q1, cars struggling for grip, oversteer all over the place.

Hamilton looks mega hooked up, they couldn't beat him even with the softer tyre.

Alan McNish?

The grip Hamilton had on those tyres in Q1 was supreme, wherever he turned the wheel the car just stuck there.

Sounds like Hamilton could be hooking it up here again.

And there he goes! Hamilton looks like he is in rails out there, looking unbeatable at the moment.
