The F1 Thread 2012 Season

Michael should just retire and stop embarrassing himself further. There have been the odd high moments but he is a shadow of his former self. I cringe everytime I see him do something stupid or get beaten by Rosberg thinking "do you really need to be doing this old man?"

Why would mclaren want to "build the team around Michael"?

They don't have to build a team around Michael, they just need to build a team and thats something he can do very well. Those feck ups in the pitstop come from a ***-jointed team not running how it should. In championship winning years, teams are slick as ice. Those mistakes don't get made.

Also there is real point to argue if Michael didn't have the faults with the Mercedes that he's had 'not talking about Spain' he'd be sitting on around 50-60 points. That is how much car failure has hurt him this season. It's not a case of not having the speed, it's a case of not having reliability to go along with that speed.

Granted car failures did cost him some points but he has been out qualified for most of the races by his team mate rosberg. In the actual race he always is involved in some incidents, most of which are his own fault.
On the other hand Lewis this season has been really mature, consistent, if it wasn't for mclaren fecking up on mulitple occasions he would've been leading the championship race.
I can't believe someone is actually suggesting replacing lewis with schumacher(now), the way he is going I would rather have rosberg at mclaren.

Red Bull floor declared illegal by FIA, essentially they got a race win using illegal kit but because nobody protested the result they get to keep it but they have to change the floor design.

Hmmm it's difficult to quantify how much that diffuser was worth, I have to credit Ferrari and McLaren for not protesting it at Monaco, it should have never passed scrutineering in the first place. The FIA really need to sort their act out, they only seem to ban stuff when teams point it out. From what I've heard or read the floor was worth about a tenth but it's difficult to quantify.

Arguments had centred around fully enclosed holes, the difference between a "hole" and a "slot" and even what constitutes a hole.
The FIA note added: "It has been argued that, as it is not explicitly stated that fully enclosed holes cannot be located in a surface lying on the step plane rearward of a line 450mm forward of the rear face of the cockpit template, then they may be located in such areas.

I bet that was an exciting meeting :boring:

But had some teams not complained about it before the race , so the FIA must of had an idea it was a bit dodgy.
Why not just let the other teams develop the own floor along the same lines

Defeats the object of what they're trying to achieve with the diffuser regulations. The FIA at the start of every race weekend, look at the cars to make they're legal but incredibly often they seem to miss stuff like this, only when the opposition teams brought it to their attention did they do anything. As your other post says it comes down to the nuances of the language so it might be easy to get the car passed by the scrutineers, but it seems once teams put pressure and point out the ambiguity of the regulations the FIA change their stance. They need to think on their feet more.

It's 3/3 in qualifying this year and he's had two contact incidents with other drivers. One at Spain and the other was last weekend which wasn't his fault in the first place.

Rosberg will become a journey man much like Jarno Trulli and Rubens Barrichello.

It's also very clear that Lewis is starting to become unsettled at McLaren and you can bet that the rumors of him shopping around at the end of the season are coming from who ever is organizing his PR. Regardless of the mistakes that McLaren make, the constant pissing and moaning we hear on the radio from him 'like in Monaco' doesn't help anybody.

Nor does Button's 'There was no balance in the car' comments whenever he struggles. Lewis is fast, it's clear he hasn't had the best relationship with his new engineer when Phil Prew was moved upstairs somewhat. Monaco was a race of fine margins, they dawdled in keeping him out on tyres do long waiting for rain and allowed Vettel and Alonso to jump him, if he doesn't feel that his team haven't kept him well informed then that's up to him. He was their only competitive driver last weekend, they told him to change his torque mapping on the grid and he nearly got mugged off the line. Everything his team does for him doesn't seem to be working. He was quite mature about it after the race too.

Wasn't that the same argument with Brawn's double diffuser back in '09?

Montreal

We really were spoilt last year with a great race, heres to another one then!

Just watching a replay of FP2 from yesterday, Brundle was talking to Whitmarsh and he (MW) sounded less than confident about Lewis wanting to stay with the team. Interesting.

I fancy Hamilton to win here, he's good around Canada.

I would think Hamilton would stay
Do you see Red Bull signing him alongside Vettel, which leaves Mercedes, I'd think if he's sensible he'd be in a better car at McLaren

Why isn't this a BBC race btw, surely Canada is one of the races you would definitely want to pick

I'm not 100% sure how they picked them but I don't think it was a case of letting the BBC pick the 10 they wanted and let Sky have the rest. I mean the European GP is on BBC live at the next round and that is a traditional bore fest.

I saw that aswell, all after Lewis said mid week he is in no rush and will wait till the end of the season to decide on McLaren future.

As for where his future may rest, Hamilton reiterated that he's in rush to make a decision. He did, however, hint that it could be with McLaren.

"Who knows what's going to happen in the future? I'm in no rush. I've got a contract for the rest of the year and I have a job. At some stage my management will have to sit down and start planning.

"I'm very happy where I am so I think it may be fairly simple."

Something about not being allowed too many races in a row and also Sky aren't allowed too many races in a row to be exclusive. I think what happened was, the beeb were allowed to pick 3 races they definitely wanted first, (Monaco, Silverstone and the season closer, which are all obvious choices really, even if Monaco may as well be held on rails), then Sky got to pick the 3 exclusive races (opener, Canada and the new track in America I think) and it went from there with them alternating picks

Button having a shocking start to the weekend, missed most of FP 1 and 2 because of a gearbox problem, finished 15th in FP 3....the balance of the car is all wrong apparently.....again:rolleyes:

I can see Button starting well down the field for this one, probably going out in Q2 somewhere. I reckon something like

1. Hamilton
2. Vettel
3. Rosberg

Alonso looked decent too, could be any one of Vettel, Hamilton, Rosberg & Alonso for pole.

But yeah Button having a mare again, needed a good one after Monaco too.

Jeez you know what pisses me off? The BBC presenting team is incredible and Sky's presenting team is wank, then the BBC commentary team is wank and Sky's is incredible in comparison. So essentially what needs to be done is to watch the build up on BBC (when its available) and then switch on to Sky for the commentary. fecking joke the coverage is really. feck Ben Edwards, the prick.

Yeah am watching the Sky live coverage in the pit-lane at the moment and seriously not impressed. Simon Lazenby is so dull and Herbert doesn't do much either.

Wonder if there's any small part of Martin Brundle (money aside) that wishes he was back at the Beeb alongside his mates DC and EJ.

Edwards is a useless cnut Nick, he makes endless mistakes, I shit you not these days watching races on BBC goes along the lines of,

"And there is Massa braking into the hairpin...or is it Massa? I think thats Massa....yep its Mas..s...no.....no wait a minute....its Alonso"

about 2 laps after the SC comes back in at Monaco,

"safety car back in now, we must have just missed that...."

feck you Ben.

I agree it is really annoying, Sky's pre-race is so bad.

It really is horrendous, they observed BBC at races last year, clearly they tried to follow what the BBC were doing and have got it all wrong, Georgie Thompson is a clueless bint too.

I know, he's fecking awful, I just enjoy your little rants :)

Nice :D
