The F1 Thread 2011 Season

Hmmm. Or perhaps the young rookie picked up one or two poor traits from the biggest twat of them all on the grid

I doubt that very much.

Again such statements shift the blame off Hamilton for his behaviour and statements - does this mean Alonso is ultimately responsible?

Whatever anyone thinks of Alonso, Hamilton clearly needs to become more mature and more gracious.

I have no idea what Hamilton has and hasn't learnt / picked up from Alonso's behaviour that first season. He was an absolute twat though, he couldn't handle that a rookie was as good as, if not better, than him - then world champion - in the same car

I'm not shifting anything off Hamilton's response today. I think he had every reason to be upset at the stewards treatment, certainly the Williams incident. They do seem to be a lot quicker to punish him than some other drivers, I'm not sure his on track behaviour really warrants that. The race thing was clearly a joke, a very poor unfunny one, and he's just made himself look a complete dick saying it. Had he not said that line, it would just have been a frustrated driver speaking soon after the race while he was still pissed, and we'd have forgotten about it by tomorrow. Now he's attracted more negative attention to himself, and he only has himself to blame for that. He'll have to learn the hard way

I agree, he'll be at McLaren next year

Ferrari clearly won't go for him, and I can't see Red Bull putting him in alongside Vettel

He will be at McLaren barring a miracle but long term I think he will have his head turned and I thought he was heading to being a career McLaren driver.

Oh and yeah, anyone catch the end of the Indy 500?

Talk about gutted.

I love the Monaco race: been watching Formula one for over 50 years (Christ!). One of the greatest moves I ever saw on a race track was Jackie Stewart in the 70s going around the hairpin turn. The four-wheel drift he set up had his car slide around that corner in a poetic turn. A thing of beauty.

To be fair i think the Ali G comment was just a misguided attempt to make a joke, spur of the moment thing. He does need to man up a bit though.

clearly a misguided joke but still a really really stupid thing to say

Yeah, it was a great race, even before that, it was a rookie mistake to make, they hadnt really been able to make the higher line work all day, he gets out of the groove trying to pass a backmarker, all he had to do was lift off a touch and then pass him on the straight

Massa having a moan

"He tried to pass me on the kerbs [when] I didn't think it was possible to overtake," said Massa. "He was too aggressive, I think.

"Then when I got to the tunnel my car was damaged and I went on the dirty part of the track and hit the wall. What he did today was unbelievable. Not just with me, but with other drivers as well.

When asked by AUTOSPORT whether further sanctions were needed in a bid to calm Hamilton's driving, Massa said: "Yes. I think he needs to be penalised again, and in a good way – otherwise he doesn't learn.

"They [the FIA] need to think about something for him, or he will not learn."

Hamilton, who finished sixth on-track, was later given a 20s penalty in place of a drive-through for colliding with Pastor Maldonado's Williams with four laps to go. It did not affect his finishing position.

When asked whether he thought Hamilton was the most problematic driver to race against in Formula 1, Massa replied: "Maybe he is the one spending the most [time] with the FIA [stewards]. I don't know."

Got wide on the marbles in the tunnel like a Rookie and binned it with no obvious damage, Hamilton's fault. Hit Webber at the same time Hamilton hit him at the hairpin, Hamilton's fault. Felipe you have no right to talk about penalties after this classic went unpenalised in the heat of a title race.

Hamilton got his penalties, I don't see what more he wants.

 Really?

Laughing because you can't believe it or because you think im talking bollocks?

They're both avoidable accidents, but just because Massa didn't get punished for his that doesn't mean he's not allowed to comment on incidents where he's the one being shunted.

I don't know about that though. In the Massa one, he overtook Hamilton but missed the breaking point for the corner and ended up off the road. He was left with very little option at that point to recover to the road whilst Hamilton could've gone a bit wider and avoided him and still been ahead.

Whilst with Hamilton's, well it was just a drive up the inside of Massa whereas he shouldn't have as the move was not there for the taking. It wasn't even 50/50.

But I guess that's just how I see both the incidents.

Massa ran wide which let Lewis get back in front of him, at the point where they reached the corner Lewis already had the racing line and Massa was in no position to be trying to go inside, which is why he's mostly off the circuit and on the grass. It's a bit less clear cut than the Lewis into Massa incident at the weekend, but still an avoidable accident, Massa should have pulled behind not tried to barge through a none existent gap.

A Bahraini official has tweeted that the GP will go ahead.

FIA votes unanimous 26 out of 26 for Bahrain F1

According to F1 sources, Bahrain will happen instead of Indian GP which moves to the end of the season

fecking ridiculous.

I'm not necessarily against putting it back on the calender, but moving another GP will screw so many fans. People will have almost certainly had travel and accommodation etc booked for the Indian GP for those dates and will now have to try and rearrange.

This won't be the last of it, wouldn't suprise me if the drivers/constructors titles are done and dusted the teams will boycott the event.

jakehumphreyf1: Just seen provisional 2012 f1 calendar online...Texas in June!?!??!! #hotinthecockpit

GP date changes bad especially for fans planning IndiaGP, costs+time off. Racing til Christmas, develop+test new car, 21 race 2012. Too much

MBrundleF1

Read copiously both sides of Bahrain story. Talked to friends+associates who live there. Thought long+hard about it. Mistake to reinstate GP

First tweet sums up my feelings, and I'm willing to accept his opinion on the second.

I'm back from Monaco....what an amazing experience! All you F1 fans need to get yourselves over there ASAP....it's brilliant! What a fecking NOISE!

I'll post some pics for those interested.

If only Webber could drive as good as he talks. I agree with everything he said.
