The F1 Thread 2011 Season

No, these tyre's are terrible, they are surprised they were lasting 8 laps, that tells you how bad they are.

Also Mclaren was a bluff, it's been blatant for a while.

Michael Schumacher

" I would like to give a compliment to the Pirelli tyres which worked very well here today."

Massa

From what we have seen, the soft tyre shows less degradation than we might have expected

Not to mention other people who commented on it during practice

I'm fairly certain the teams will adapt and by 2-3 races and this will be a bit of a non issue. Its like the year when they ran only one set of tyres for the whole race.

BTW that Vettel thing where he came in with a chuck of tyre missing was not because of degradation but because he hit a piece of debris on track.

Interesting, you know more than Horner and Whiting then.

And Michael Schumacher

And Massa

Better than expected doesn't mean they are good, if I go into a fight and expect to get beat in 10 seconds but last 20 I've done better than expected, I still haven't done good.

I reckon it's good. It gets too automatic and monotonous and predictable sometimes. Let's see them change tires more and have to feck about with tactics and get some more excitement back rather than 'oh Vettel is out on his tires and will pit in about 40 laps after driving round in front all that time, might come back in half an hour and see him just about to pit...' anything that adds unpredictability I'm all for. Apart from the artificial rain, I'm undecided on that.

No it wasn't, they really weren't very good in testing and the awful reliability was very, very real. They've had to copy the Red Bull exhaust system, which thankfully appears to have worked.

Some intresting news on twitter about the DRS wing

According to reports, Red Bull made a last minute plea to the FIA yesterday to get the DRS wing banned from Practice and Qualifying. #F1

It is believed that Red Bull have a lack of straight line speed compared to the others, which they believe will hinder them in Qualy. #F1

They should say we will ban it when you stop your wings flexing.

Maybe not as bad as first thought for now but the Australian track is not typical for the season, not to mention that the degradation is still a hell of a lot worse than previous seasons. We're looking at three stops every race if not more, and when we get to other tracks it's going to be a shit load worse. Canada, for example, could be disaster.

There's nothing disastrous about it, tyre degradation makes the sport interesting again.

All you hoped for a bit of twist & turn into the first corner, a driver error, mechanical error or some weather. Now with the tyre's wearing off much quicker, teams and drivers will now have to challenge themselves to adapt and call situations much quicker.

Best move by FOM in years.

In Prac 3 the two Red Bulls were comfortably quicker over a single lap even when they were using hard tyres while the rest were using fresh soft tyres. Then they absolutely smashed everyone when they went onto softs

Wow he's fast. Interesting grid line up with the Red Bulls and McLarens mixed up on the front two rows, should be an exciting start :D

Take that. Seb showing his class. Destroyed everyone else including Webber who'll be absolutely livid.

Webber looked in deep thought there, there's some big pressure on him now.

Horner not helping with his interview, Christ.

And now they're saying Vettel didn't use his KERS button, bloody hell just how far behind are the rest of them?!

What did everyone think of Brundle I thought he did a good job in the commentry.

Thought he did great and so did DC.

Vettel stunning pace, Webber already looking unhappy after 1 qualifying session! Did you notice him checking Seb's front wing after quali, wonder if he is missing a part again.

Speaking of which

The advantage that gives really is where alot of the difference is in the mid to high speed corners I think. Until McLaren find a way to do it to that extreme and Ferrari sort their 1 lap pace out nobody will get near them. But still I also believe Red Bull have some kind of advantage in qualifying sessions and usually they are abit closer in the race.

I dread to think how fast they will be at the high speed tracks, starting with Sepang.
