The F1 Thread 2009 Season

Question:

How the feck do you get rid of the damn interactice bollocks? (streams on the right side etc etc)

As for the Qually, as expected Brawn walked it. Good for em, tough 2 years and they've come back fighting. Looks like their abandonment of last year was a clever move.

Can anyone explain in a couple of words what is all new this season? I've heard they changed a lot...

Hamilton has changed his gearbox so he starts from the back

McLaren might aswell just use the race as some free practice now

Both Toyotas have been relegated to back of grid for illegal wings, Ferrari and Redbull might also be in trouble as Williams have reported them or something

so hamilton is 18th now

Jenson Button on pole, Hamilton at the back of the grid... How much would you have got on that if you would have bet in December?

Somebody got odds of 290/1 matched on betfair for Button
950/1 matched on Barrichello  Whoever layed them prices must be shitting themselves right now. Come on Button

Just checked the fred and Brawn are now second-favorites for constructors title success

Anyone have any earlier numbers?

* To be confirmed by FIA

Jenson carried about a lap less of fuel than Rubens. Interestingly Lewis is running really light, but the Brawn cars blitzed quali, they are carrying alot more fuel than the cars around them. Not sure I like this displaying car weights but meh. Oh and Lewis's car weight may be down to it having no fuel in it because he did not quali in Q2.

those in the uk dont forget the clocks go forward, i only remembered because i was looking on the sky tv planner and noticed it went from 00.30 to 02.00 on paramount +1

i would have woken up at 7.45 although im sky+ing it anyway

Yeh I stayed up for it, good race so far

Safety car out now, Button leading

Strangest thing is how much longer it takes to refuel. We're talking up to 20 seconds in some cases. Can see a lot of races being decided in the pits at this rate. That said I've lost count of how many overtake manoeuvres there have been all ready, great racing

i watches most of it, missed about 20 mins of it in the middle, missed the ferraris going out, saw one of them driving into the garage, but didnt see the other

Get in there Jenson! Bizarre stuff, won behind the safety car, but he was different class all race

Vettel and Kubica, 2nd and 3rd with a few laps to go... oh dear! Crashed into each other

Immense drive from Hamilton has to be said too. Benefited at the end from those two taking each other out, but 4th place in a crap McClaren starting from the back of the grid... that's why he's World Champion I guess

Seriously, is this a joke? First they make the cars look hedious and now Brawn GP become the best car on the track? Congrats to Button... but could someone summarise the race?

If the Brawn and toyota cars are deemed Illegal in 2 weeks time, Hamilton gets the win lol

Surely they won't be deemed illegal now, they were legal for the race so why would they change their decision?

I just can't get my head around Honda leaving the sport. They spent all that money developing this car... surely, surely they could have afforded to stay on for one more season? After all those years of misery... bizarre

Paven is right, the cars do look grim. But it's worth it, because the regulations clearly made it much easier to get alongside a rival car and overtake

Gunna be an interesting season!

Get in there! Brilliant from Button and Brawn, the car is a beauty. If they find them illegal which they should not, they have been declared legal twice already, they still should not take the win off of them they will just let them have this win and whatever result they get in Malaysia and then order them to change it from that point on just like they did in 2007 with Raikkonen's win with the illegal floor, otherwise its double standards.

Great race though, the cars look abit odd but they can now atleast overtake each other.

an appeal was made, hopefully they arent deemed illegal, im sure ive read that the results of first two races will be provisional until the appeal is heard

Trulli passed Hamilton under a yellow flag i'm hearing so Hamilton might still get 3rd place. I can't remember Hamilton being in front on Trulli though.

McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh reveals on the F1 Forum that race officials are definitely looking at how Jarno Trulli came to overtake Lewis Hamilton during the safety car period (see lap 57 below). For the record, Trulli spun and Hamilton stole third while the safety car was out, a position the Toyota driver took back under safety car conditions. Whether Hamilton has any claim to third or not could come down to how severe Trulli's spin was.

i like how the pundits take over and jake humphreys just sits there trying to get a word in eddie jordan keeps asking questions to the other pundits and to jake himself

Barrichello said that it got damaged at the start of the race, but it didn't effect him.

Exactly, take the diffuser off and the car is still fundamentaly good, you can tell by just watching it, no fuss it turns in nice, good under braking and has good aero efficiency. Vettel stuck with Button for a good chunk of the race anyway although it looked like Button always had something in hand.

Breaking News: Hamilton promoted to 3rd over Trulli.

Wouldn't be F1 if the race result didn't change several times after the event had finished

Vettel punishment is fair, he took Trulli out. In fairness he apologised on the radio for being an idiot straight away. Mistakes of youth I guess

Good news for Hamilton. All I heard is that he gave the place back under the safety car, knowing what the FIA are like no doubt. Didn't see Trulli spin. Odd one

BMW are adamant that Kubica would have caught up! Malaysia should be good. Oh and I'm hearing lewis has just been given 3rd place! Woohoooooooo Get in Lewis!

If it weren't for the safety cars he wouldn't even have been close. Swings and roundabouts.

Ok I've tried doing some research into this diffuser thing, discover precisely what's been going on and where the problem lies

From what I gather, Super Aguiri developed the idea last season, and when they went bust engineers joined Honda and Toyoto, they developed systems there. Williams just came up with the idea themselves (or peaked at the Honda answer book?)

There's nothing wrong with having a diffuser, in fact they're meant to have one. Regulate the air flow out the back of the car and create better grip at high speed. The contention is that Brawn and co have cheated a little, by attaching it to another part of the car (the 'rear crash structure') and so it can be stationed higher than the regulations otherwise sanction. Which is apparently an advantage. Red Bull are leading the complaints, because the way they've made their car, if this system is within the rules, they can't just plonk one on. So they'd be at a large disadvantage to other teams. One site I saw also claimed they'd come up with a similar idea, which was quashed by the FIA, while the Brawn and co versions were passed, because they don't contradict any of the rules, they just interpret them differently

For me, that's what innovation is all about. So if it doesn't contradict or break and rules, it should stand. The other teams just have to lump it, and curse themselves for not being as creative

This is the simplest summing up I've found: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motorsport/formulaone/5060261/F1-diffuser-row-QandA.html

Ah, that completely changes things. I got the impression it was basically breaking the rules but because race stewards are retards they allowed it. In this case that doesn't appear to have happened - as you say, they've just come up with an innovative design.

As far as that goes, it seems that the big teams are just a little upset at having been totally outmaneuvred by the "ittle guys".

And I don't want Button to lose the win - I'm chuffed for him.

I can't believe the corrupt FIA which hate McLaren have allowed Hamilton to be moved up to 3rd place.
