The F1 Thread 2009 Season

Bad move by Ferrari imo, Raikonnen is by far a better driver than Massa. A pairing of Raikonnen & Alonso and in a good enough car would of given them the best chance of titles.

Not necessarily - Alonso doesn't have the best track record when driving in teams alongside an equally talented teammate.

ie, he throws his toys out of the pram and acts like a spastic.

Alonso is the best racer out there, him and Hamilton didn't really have that many problems as the media was pointing out.

Yea finishing tied 1 point behind the champion in spite of a ridiculous penalty in Hugary was a really shit performance.

Say what you like about Alonso; the guy is probably the best and most consistantly driver on the grid and although I'm no great fan of his I'd have loved to have seen him and Kimi side by side in at Ferrari. Shame Luca has made it pretty clear this won't happen.

Oh, no, I'm not saying Alonso is a poor driver. I said at the time when him and Hamilton were battling that I thought he was the better driver and would come out on top. I believe I even had a bet with Brad over who would be world champion (as it turned out we were both wrong!). My point was that he tends to get a little stroppy if he's not the sole focus of attention.

We had that bet for this season? I didn't remember that at all

Does the bet stand, whoever becomes World Champion again first? How much was it for?

For the sake of argument lets say it is Alonso-Massa at Ferrari, Kimi is out were does he go Mclaren or Brawn I've read reports for both or will he even retire.

Renault have lost ING and Mutua Madrileña immediately then, dont want to be associated with cheats it seems.

Well if they struggle to get a decent sponser, at least it'll go some way to providing justice in all this, given the fudge of a decision already made regarding their punishment

I think ING wanted out anyway and this was a golden oppurtunity to end early for free, Mutua Madrileña will follow wherever Alonso goes I guess.

Brawn won't be anywhere near as good next season I wouldn't have thought because the "surprise factor" of their car will have gone. I've heard McLaren, too, and I reckon that'd be good. Hamilton could do with some decent competition in the team, and McLaren seem unable to function without a Finn.

That what they all said about Renault in 2005 and the came back stronger in 2006. The regs are fundamentally the same, I fancy Brawn will still be right up there next season, not dominant like they were early this season though. You have to remember they made this car work with basically one winter test, imagine if they did a whole winter.

That's not entirely true, though, because Honda had been putting all their effort into it the season before. This car is basically Honda's. Next year we'll see their own designs on a much smaller budget.

Yes but the car will an evolution not revolution, and that makes a difference. It's true that Honda backed it very early but they still on track tested it twice before the first race and fitted a completly new engine spec in 6 weeks.

could you just explain to me why ferrari would dump kimi for somebody not as good who may or may not be fit to race again next season (physically) and who nobody knows if he will ever be mentally ready to get back in a car again...

I agree with your sentiment but Luca said they are def keeping Massa and are weighing up the options between Kimi and the Dolmio man over the next few weeks.

I wouldn't have thought Raikonnen would go back to McLaren, i'd expect to see Rosberg in a McLaren next year.

I hope Raikkonen doesn't go back to McLaren, but I can't say it would surprise me much.

I'm still clinging to some hope that he stays at Ferrari and that Ferrari suddenly realise that he will beat everyone hands down if they give him a car with over steer tendancy rather than worrying about Massa preferring under steer.

Raikonnen just worked the McLaren better. I'd like to see him and Lewis in the same car, and it work well for the both of them.

This is what has me torn, I don't like Hamilton or McLaren, but I know Raikkonen would work well there as Lewis also prefers and over steer set up.

seriousley????... not massa as a test driver???

fecking crazy...:wenger: though as santander are gonig to be their major sponsor ( I believe) it makes you think a decision about alonso may have been taken?

Raikkonen Ferrari future in doubt

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says Kimi Raikkonen is not guaranteed to drive for the team next season.

Di Montezemolo said the team would retain Felipe Massa, who is recovering from a fractured skull sustained in a crash at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

He added: "Otherwise, we are mulling the best choice but we still have time. We will decide in a few weeks."

It is widely believed in Formula 1 that Ferrari have already agreed a deal for Fernando Alonso to join them in 2010.

Both Raikkonen and Massa are under contract to Ferrari for next year, but the Italian team have been looking at ways of moving the Finn on to another team.

Massa is recovering at home in Brazil and Ferrari are planning on the basis that he will be fit to return for the start of next season.

Montezemolo said: "We will have a Brazilian driver (Massa) because he deserves another chance given that, thank God, he is fine."

More follows.

kin ell... id be worried if I was massa... what if they need alonso to win???... afterall hes had one bad crash I bet he doesnt fancy another

All this talk of Alonso replacing Raikonnen is of course dependent on Massa actually being fit. I wish a speedy recovery to the lad but there's no way I can see him being on the grid before 2011 after an accident like that.

I might be wrong but didn't Kimi fall out with Ron Dennis he's gone now so you never know he might go back to Mclaren. It might also depend on Lewis would he rather one of his mates Rosberg, Sutil or Kubica.

Dennis was a prick, Whitmarsh is a dull cnut but I think Kimi would like working with him more than Mr Integrity. Still I hope he doesn't end up back there for the reasons I stated earlier.

They seem pretty confident that he'll be racing next year, time will tell I guess.

Autosport reporting Massa will take part in the 'challenge of the stars' kart race in November in Brazil.

Obviously nothing like a Formula 1 car but good to see he'll be in some sort of action in the near future.
