The F1 Thread 2008 Season

Massa just took to the grass to make sure he hit Hamilton, doesnt look like they are even gonna investigate it.

You spoke to soon!

He overcooked it and drove into Hamilton coming back onto the track. He had absolutely no need, he could have continued on the grass until the car had passed. He'll get done for that

Raikkonen and Hamilton also under investigation. Different between it though is Hamilton went for it at the start, you cant be penalised for trying. Massa's case is obvious, he did not want Hamilton past him so he took him out.

 at Hamilton but I'll have to concede that the Massa one on him was worse than whatever he did at the start. He'll still win the championship though but it's funny to see him being on the end of it.

 Kovalainen out and Hamilton drive throguh at the same time

You wot??!!

Hamilton penalised for the start?! He was in the lead wasn't he?

Massa is rightly penalised, as was palpably obvious. I'm flabegasted that Hamilton has been done for that start though

He almost crashed the whole field after that start.

I guess this brings Kubica into the mix, great day for him so far

What are the English commentators saying? I just can't get my head around him being penalised for that start! How on earth was that offence worth the same penalty as Massa recieved for actually driving into him?!

Looks like neither will point, so I guess none of it matters. But the decisions just get odder

Yes, but he touched NOBODY, he ran deep, its no different to what Alonso did at Spa 07, and any race where someone had the balls to try and do something at Turn 1. It's not a penalty, never in a million years.

They are saying the Massa penalty was fair, and that it's highly unusual to penalize a driver for forcing someone off on the first lap. They are reserving judgment until they get more data and footage.

He almost crashed the whole field after that start.

Not by doing anything untoward though. Looked very close to contact with Kimi, he slammed the breaks on realising he was overcooking the corner, ended up keeping it together but running off

Maybe I'm wrong. But if that was a punishable incident, we might as well stop racing because you can't even overcook a corner now without having to serve a drive through! I swear F1 never used to be like this

Nah lets boycott, Fiat and all their subsidiaries. I swear the FIA just like to hand these penalties to keep parity. Hamilton wont score here, but hes lucky that Massa probably wont be scoring heavy either.

I think 'parity' has a whole lot to do with it. They realised their hands were tied with Massa, you're just not allowed to purposely drive into a rivals car

I'm still stunned by that decision! I'm thinking back to about a million decisions where a driver didn't give the other any space to stay on the track. You can even think to Spa, where Raikkonen forced Hamilton onto the grass... and that's fine, its racing. Hamilton hasn't even done that, he just overcooked the corner

Absolute nonsense decision

Hamilton catching Massa, they are essentially racing each other now. I really hope he catches him, gonna love to see round 2 of that 1

That Renault is starting to come good. If Piquet can be driving it in 6th place, it must be a far improved car! Wouldn't expect Alonso to be moving anywhere next season. Who'd want to drive that Honda

It'll only be for pride surely, but I can see Hamilton taking Massa for a second time! Although whats the engine situation? Might want to conserve it if he's not due a new one next race?

Hamilton has his joker to play on engine, so he has a free one in the bag for the last 2 races. Button dropping like a stone, that Honda is shocking. Thing is Jenson's position isnt even secure in that team, kick in the balls that would be if they dropped him and then came good.

you only got swedish commentators

I can't understand a bloody word

Mind you back when I could see ITV, I'd always be saying what they did 10 seconds later. Brundle sure knows what he's talking about, you miss him when you can't hear his commentary. Dunno if the decisions have been made yet, but hopefully BBC keep him on. He did start on there initially with Murray

Kovaleinen retired, Massa and Hamilton were penalized while I was watching infomercials about Churchill the dog. I read it here first so its a good thing BBC get F1

You would hate it if you understood the Swedish. The expert commentator hates Hamilton and has a pop at him as often as he can.

Ah frig, my TV signals gone to pot.

Alonso's race to lose. SC or Rain is the only way this will get interesting again.

Imagine if Massa doesn't drive into Hamilton. If the stewards make that same call on Hamilton, Massa could have gained shed load of points on his rival today. Think of the outrage and the fuss we'd have had post race

I can't believe they make that decision to penalise him, if Massa hadn't done something to be penalised for also

Although saying that, I still can't believe they made the decision anyway! It looks like not being all that important, but still be interesting what everyone has to say after the race. Is it a new precedent that if you overcook the first corner, you have to serve a drive through?

Wasn't Massa at fault again for that? They cut to break here, I only saw the aftermath. But I don't see what Bourdais can particularly do about coming out of the pitlane, as long as he stayed within the white marker...

Massa is a bloody menace! A menace still with a chance of stealing Webbers point here yet, dependent on penalties

Massa is gonna cruise past Webber, that Ferrari is so fast on the straight. Doesnt deserve the point, but it might prove to be the 1 which gets him the title. The way this season has gone, I just cannot see Hamilton winning it, he just doesnt get the breaks and the amount of points he has lost through silly mistakes and FIA ludicrus decisions will cost him.
