The F1 Thread 2008 Season

apparently Hamilton and Kimi are under investigation

For what reason ? the collisions were racing incidents. The way Hamilton overtook Kimi was not fair though, short cut the chicane and then just let him inch ahead at the start line before accelerating ahead.

Nothing will come out of it, may a small fine. Lewis will get away with it.

Breaking News -

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it has been announced that Hamilton will be demoted to third place.

Hamilton given a 25 second post race penalty.

Demoted to third place behind Ferrari's Felipe Massa and BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld.

So massa is declared the winner then, what a farce.

Very controversial.

Have they released an official statement yet?

Apparently Glock was also penalised for something and had a 25 second penalty dropping him from 8th to 9th.

He was accused of gaining an advantage by cutting the Spa circuit's Bus Stop chicane in a late-race battle with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

What a joke, he let Raikkonen pass him after that incident.

He didnt let Raikonnen pass him. He let Kimi get alongside him and an inch ahead . He gained almost an entire car length minus one inch by cutting the chicane

Not a farce...it was deserved. He shortcut the chicane, gained an advantage and allowed Kimi to go an inch ahead and then accelerated past him. Should have been given a harsher penalty IMO.

Kimi actually pushed him off the circuit. the weather conditions were appalling and there is no way he planned to gain an advantage.

It is a farce and makes a mockery of F1 after a very exciting finish. I for one will not tune in again this year, feck them.

Could someone please explain to me what the hell Lewis did wrong. Once again Ferrari backed F1 championship is becoming a joke. Seriously all the other teams should form a break away series and Let Ferrari race against the likes of Force India and Torro Rosso. Im not one for conspricy theories but Ferrari have become to powerful and run the F1 circus and it is becoming a circus and Ferrari the ringmaster.

Pushed him off the circuit ?

Kimi was ahead and had the inside line into the chicane. Hamilton came in too fast on the outside and had no other option but to go off the circuit. He should have been flagged for a drive thru penalty like Kovaleinen. He would have struggled to finish in the top 5 then. He is lucky to have finished 3rd.

What did Lewis do wrong? He overtook a Ferrari and won a race. If he did the same move in the dry and Kimi not baulking him off then probably the penalty would be fair, probably. In the wet on slicks, Kimi locking up and running deep forcing Hamilton off, its isnt a penalty. the FIA don't want racing they just want cash, and Ferrari is their cash cow.

I knew the reactions would be tasty.

Can't wait to hear what Ron comes out with.

The rules are clear - if a driver shortcuts a chicane and gains an advantage, he should let the driver he overtook pass him completely to restore status quo before trying to overtake again. Hamilton didnt allow Kimi to 'pass', just allowed him to pull alongside.

The rules are black and white. The stewards in most countries are from their local racing associations and have no reason to show bias. They arent Italian or from Ferrari. They have complete autonomy to take decisions. Even the FIA doesnt intervene and only reviews the decision if there is an appeal. Any talk of bias towards Ferrari is retarded.

You are talking out of your ass, I would just like to point this out.

A great finish today, one of the most exciting I have ever seen.

Its a shame that F1 is one of the most corrupt sports going though.

O, and just to point out he let Kemi get his full car in front of his car before overtaking, as was the distance they came down the previous straight at.

Watch it again, Kimi is fully ahead after the line. What is black and white about it is the amount of gap he had to give back, as he was literraly tucked under his gearbox they have rulled that it is illegal, but IMO total bollox.

Watch the fecking coverage again will you.

Grow up.

If he was only an inch behind, how did he get in behind Raikkonen? He was clearly the faster driver anyway, whatever happened he would have sailed past eventually, and it wasn't his fault that Kimi stuck his car in the wall. Absolutely disgraceful decision.

Ferrari stuck a complaint in now that would be a first shock horror a Ferrari complaint never would you believe. Here i am thinking that they would like to win a championship without outside help.

I think that our Lewis took a short cut across the chicane to avoid hitting a Ferrari God Forbid. He then slowed let Kimi past and went on to win the race.

I don't think the argument is about him being in front or not. Its about gaining an advantage, Hamilton had the chance to have a run at him into the first corner by slowing down just enough to get right behind him and then pouncing. This is where I assume the stewards have seen the advantage.

Although its cheeky, I would call it racing at its finest.

And who is is gaining an advantage from? Raikkonen got ahead of him before Hamilton overtook him again, and the Raikkonen crashed. The guys in 2nd and 3rd were not involved.

Farcical decision.

He is supposed to do it before the lap completes (before the line) or before the next corner, whichever is earlier. Not whenever he damn pleases and the speed favors him.

It's hardly his fault that Kimi was slow as feck in the damp

Watch the video above. Raikkonen is in the lead as they cross the line.

I truly believe F1 does not want a black driver to win the championship.this decision is just outrageous, its blatantly racist.

By an inch when they cross the line, not by a car length. As it was happening live, I realized that Lewis could have made a mistake by not letting him pass completely before the line. He regains top speed, then slows a bit to let him pass but gets the opportunity to be in the slipstream which isnt fair racing per the rules.
