Gaming 1836 - The Europa Universalis 4 Experiment (Hands-off) - Map & stats in second post - Final Map and Stats update - Timelapse video

It might be worth including the individual mil/dip/admin tech on the yearly reviews too, or at least the mil tech with the army size update.

As you know, only a level or two in mil diff can totally swing the balance in a battle. 100k vs 50k doesn't mean much if your using pitch forks vs rifles. :)

IMO the best metrics for player strength from the stats above are 1) development, 2) ideas 3) army size

Yeah not a bad shout. It will be in the country update though.

I’ll take most developed although not great if it doesn’t translate to money or obliterating.

Have I taken a bit of land to the east there?

Jeez, going from such a good start to not even appearing on most of those top 10/15 lists now. Sad times for von Walrus.

Okay I'm going to start giving a very brief status update for all the countries. I'm trying to use the diplomacy map mode. I'll just use hobbers here first to explain what's going on here. This feels extremely try-hard, but I'm committed. As always, click to expand the image.

- Circled in red are the idea groups they've picked, the number being how many ideas in that group they have finished (7 being the max). Below you can see how many of his national ideas he has unlocked, which is directly based on how many ideas he's finished.
- Circled in yellow you can see his Administrative, Diplomatic and Military tech level. More higherer is gooder.
- Circled in Green you have the stability (from -3 to +3) and prestige (-100 to 100)
- I don't know why I bothered numbering the boxes when I have the power of words, but there you go. Purple means a royal marriage, blue means an alliance, the yellow-striped are provinces he has claimed and can thus use as justification to start a war (if they were green-striped that would mean they were his own core provinces that he had lost. Some of you will se a few of those, and that's your cue to get angry. The colour on Tiber means he's in a personal union under hobbers (same ruler, same diplomacy)
- If you see a darker green, that means they're in a war on the same side as you. You may or may not be allies.

'

And then I'll just add a short description of how it's going for you. For @hobbers this is very easy: he's a fecking monster who you should all be very afraid of.

Give Islam a spin! No pressure, just an open invitation. Always remember that the conversion deal comes with a lifetime supply of spiritual guidance, brotherly love, and if you're lucky, some heavenly baklava

Don't forget excommunication and bulls issued permitting conquest and plunder and ravishing blessed by yours truly

Edit: @SilentWitness if your kingdom is Protestant already ignore what I've said, you're already excommunicated.

Sorry buddy, Sardinia is coming for you, and with it, our Glorious Catholic Church. Say goodbye to your baklava and condoms, and hello to Sunday mass and morally questionable priests.

We do get to drink wine during service though, so there's that.

Start of 1502 country updates
1502 country update (Part 1)

Okay let's do this thing.

@Igor Drefljak has been sitting really calmly in his boat. He's clearly formed some sort of anti-@Vidyoyo alliance, so it's pretty clear that Vidyoyo is never going to start that particular war. If Igor wants some land, he has to go and take it. His heir's name is Burkhard, which I think is pretty cool.

5SiwG1J.png

@Salt Bailly ruined my picture-taking plan by getting involved in a war. Just know that he's about to have his second subject, with Muscovy also apparently really looking for some Salt Baily in their lives (and last names). That said he does have to fight @Vidyoyo for the privilege first.

iK5BtH8.png

Speaking of @Vidyoyo, you can tell he has some real plans for @BootsyCollins and @Igor Drefljak, he just hasn't gotten around to them yet. Also as mentioned he's fighting @Salt Bailly and @PSV to control Muscovy. His ruler is called Kristina Svinhufvud, which I am pretty sure means Kristina Pigshead.

OevxD9s.png

@Walrus doesn't appear to like any of you, so he has found himself some allies even further east. Timurids was a good call, since they're massive. He's clearly got some designs on @hobbers, claiming a few of his provinces. His army should be ready since he finished the quality idea group, which will have improved his army and navy.

Juqre4Q.png

@Wing Attack Plan R is so big I had to zoom out to unprecedented levels. He doesn't have any big allies, but he made up for it with small allies...? Notably he has allied the completely useless Ottomans, which surely means future conflict with either hobbers or Walrus. He has done the humanist idea group, which makes it easier for him to rule different cultures and religions

Rcvjgdm.png

@altodevil is still mostly sitting there, claiming provinces and making money. He has chosen defensive ideas, so he might not be going anywhere soon. Britain is a pretty strong position to be in later when colonization starts happening, and it's also next to potentially the richest trade node in the game, so maybe he doesn't have to do anything. He has a newborn named Fergus, which seems wrong somehow.

aF0PMBQ.png

@BootsyCollins hasn't done much either, except building a very strong anti-Vidyoyo coalition. I am not sure what's stopping him from stomping Muscovy, but I suspect he'll start moving at some point. Either way his currently unlocked ideas might make him a pretty well-run country.

UJncEqX.png

@Eboue hasn't done much since he vanquished the French. He has chosen to do the offensive idea group though, which makes your army better at attacking. On top of some solid national ideas, his army is quite strong for its size. And its size isn't too bad either. It seems like Queen Berthe loved her father so much that she's gone and named her son, the crown prince, Rooney in Paris.

zyYVZop.png

@Samid is part of the @Igor Drefljak + @BootsyCollins alliance, but he's also allied to @Andycoleno9 for some reason. He hasn't done a lot of attacking since taking some of PSV's land. He's got plenty of claims to start up again, though.

ZqlNB8z.png

@Shakesey looked like he might be the next to get ganged up on not too long ago, but he's become quite strong in his own right. He can't be happy that @AnotherLondonManc blocks him from Tunisia, and we can see he's claimed the territory just in case. He's got the espionage idea group, which might lead to some unfortunate rebellions in the lands of his enemies. The quantity idea is all about one thing: make more armies more bigger.

@Tiber was doing quite well, conquering his way to a pretty large country. Then his ruler died unexpectedly without an heir, and he ended up being ruled from Constantinople. He's got quite a few claims to work with, but a junior partner in a personal union can't fight their own wars. He'll have to hope the union falls apart, or he'll have to break it. Though there might be some value in being allied to a strong @hobbers.

Be34HtT.png

@Abizzz seems like he's stuck in the middle of Europe, but that's only if you ignore the very tasty minor countries who surround him. They're all part of the Holy Roman Empire, which makes it harder to conquer them, but it's not impossible. He's currently at war with @Dan, but it all seems to be to the benefit of Brandenburg, who have somehow made it so far surrounded by you guys. His quantity idea group might mean we'll be seeing even more wars from him.

9FCeUA4.png

@Andycoleno9 has had an up-and-down game. Or maybe a down-and-up game. He's struck up a strong friendship with @P-Nut, though sources can reveal that the Italian might not be too impressed with andy's attempt to make himself Italian. He's yet to conquer Hungary, but maybe Leopold or his son Leopold can do something about it. He's one of the few to choose the diplomatic idea group, so maybe he's not looking for a fight.

ESOI32K.png

@Organic Potatoes has done precisely zero conquering, yet still finds himself doing quite well as far as making money goes. He's got some very strong ideas already, so maybe it's time to get off his ass and actually attack @altodevil soon. He's pretty close to claiming literally every single province he can, so what's it all going to amount to? If @Eboue is willing, they could take anyone on.

tysYcSX.png

@PSV is another who looked like he might be in a bit of trouble earlier. In the end he only lost two provinces, so he's actually grown since the start of the game. He's currently in a personal union under @Salt Bailly, but that might not be so bad. As long as it doesn't last forever, that is. He seems to be falling just a tiny bit behind on technology, which he should try to do something about. Though his early religious national ideas mean he's probably not very scared of the imminent Reformation.

rhzJwBQ.png

@RedSky is another who seems to have run out of small countries to bully. He's claimed the one province of @Crackers that he can reach, but we all know @Solius will snap it up if he can get his greedy coral hands on it. RedSky has a very strong set of allies, so he might even try to take on @Eboue at some point. He's doing very poorly on national ideas, only doing two when others have reached double digits. He's strong, but he doesn't want to fall too far behind on that.

LSjIQVM.png

You might think that @VeevaVee would harbour some bad feelings towards @P-Nut after their brief war that saw @Andycoleno9 sneaky into Italy, but... nope. They allied back up again almost immediately. He's also somehow found hobbers, which might make andy a little bit worried. VeevaVee did lose his dynasty earlier, but on the bright side his heir is called Luigi. He's taking the quality ideas, which is bad news for his rivals.

aSOT6ZD.png

@AnotherLondonManc is a serious person. He's conquered Tunisia (the brighter yellow means that it's just a territorial core, basically not AnotherLondonManc proper. He's got claims every which way. He chose the aristocratic ideas, which does a lot of different things. He could use it to attack, but he could also sit at home and boost the value of his provinces.

ZV0UEK6.png

@BD is doing quite well, though you can tell from his claims that he's maybe not too satisfied with the sharing of spoils so far in his super alliance. Interestingly he only has a single claim in North Africa, which you would think he would target. Despite not growing a whole lot (I think two provinces?), he's one of the top money makers, largely on account of his trading acumen.

dEKMoYK.png

Finally, we come to @Denis79. He's not small, but you can tell by the map just how many provinces he's lost. Some might argue they were never really his to begin with, but I don't think that will hold up in a court of law. Also the year is 1502, so there is no law. He could really do with making some better friends, though. Right now he's allied to the tiny Byzantines, which is almost guaranteed to bring him into a war with @hobbers at some point. At least he's picking defensive ideas, so maybe he's had enough warmongering.

otXHwuo.png

I think @Dan might be the next to go. Incredibly @Crackers appears set not to even make the top 3 of fastest killed, despite the promising start.

HVdAz0D.png

I'm going to let that one play out, and then do an update hopefully before any big wars kick off.
This looks promising. My allies could get their arses up though, 8% and 2% participation... We're doing gods work @KirkDuyt, put some more effort in it!

.I wish I would stop randomly dropping dead

@Shakesey you thinking what I’m thinking? I’ll be Kendall Roy and you can be RoRo.

Also the Ottomans are not completely useless twats, they do make those mini sofa things to put your feet on, and where would we be without those??? Nowhere, is where.

Nice! I get to drop sarcastic one-liners while you deal with all the heavy drama.

Just remember, if we start a hostile takeover of the Vatican then I'm in charge of the celebratory baklava

I think I’m lacking ambition, currently. I’m pushing into the place where Borat lives, and unless I’m really bent on cornering the donkey market, I need to find better targets. We can basically slice Africa down the middle in due time, but I’m thinking we should start strategizing on how to murder hobbers.

1502 country update

First of the last ( ), we've got @SilentWitness. They're another country which hasn't done a lot of conquering lately, but that hasn't stopped them from building a pretty wealthy nation anyway. They've got the quality idea group, but I'm not sure how much that matters given their allies are two people who seem allergic to active conflict. SilentWitness seems to prefer queens to kings, which is probably not such a bad idea considering women aren't allowed to lead armies. I suspect @KirkDuyt wishes he never gave Dutch Jesus command of an army, for example, tragically ending up with the body of Christ. SilentWitness has the humanist ideas, which could suit them very well when the Reformation hits. Luther is coming y'all.

@Solius is a monster. Not necessarily a bad one, but he's a big one in any case. Not only is he making a stupid amount of money, he's got a big and strong army. He's got some very strong army national ideas, and he's picked the quantity idea which will allow him to build an even bigger one. Crackers should take note, though it has to be said that I genuinely thought @Crackers would have been conquered by now. It might have something to do with the dove next to Queen Beatriz Solius, which signifies that she's got the "diplomat" AI personality. Make love, not war. Also he does seem to have ditched the Pope, which you can se by the white flag next to the pope's flag (you get a truce when breaking an alliance).

@Welsh Wonder is another who hasn't done a lot of fighting. He's lost a province (see the green stripes), but if I remember correctly that was a province he conquered to begin with, so it's a wash. He's sticking with the same allies as before, but has added Crackers. Defensive ideas means he's probably not invading Europe any time soon, though. I think if we've learned anything from @Welsh Wonder, it's that the welsh ruler names are awesome. Just ask King Cynwallon and his heir Taliesin.

@adexkola is one of the inland countries who didn't let that stop him from conquest. He's been involved in quite a few wars so far, not all of them for his own sake. It surely helps that he's got control of the Holy Roman Empire, though. His humanist idea group says "I accept you", but his offensive idea group says "fecking come here and let me accept you". He hasn't got too many claims going on, but I believe it's harder to conquer countires in the HRE (Holy Roman Empire) when you are the emperor. It's frowned upon.

@Crackers, oh Crackers. He's actually not doing too badly, considering the absolute betrayal that took place earlier. Twice. He seems to have chosen his allies wisely, though. It might look hopeless, if he can stay alive all it takes is a crisis for @Solius and suddenly he's back in it. He's living on the knife's edge, however, as any war might be his last. Just ask Stobzilla. King Vincent Crackers is an amazing 4-4-6, though, and that 6 means it's possible he could be turned into a great general if needed. Good generals can make up for a lot in this game.

Hey, it's @Dan! He's still alive! Though it has to be said that all of his provinces are occupied, and we're just waiting for his enemies to finish occupying his (so weak) allies. It honestly isn't beyond the realm of possibility that Brandenburg takes all of his remaining provinces. In that case I foresee his death being somewhat of a catalyst for conflict, as that will make Brandenburg a very juicy target for some surrounding vultures (the same vultures who have circled @Dan for a while). At least we can enjoy the great 6-6-3 Duke Wilfried Dan for a bit yet.

@Dr. Dwayne is another one who is a bit behind in idea groups. Not nearly as much as @RedSky, but 7 is a bit low. He's also not very strong on technology. There's a good chance he's got the inept Duke Filip to blame, a 1-2-3 monarch. Those numbers translate almost directly into national ideas and tech, and 1 is famously one of the lower numbers. It's worth noting that he leads a personal union with Denmark, which is to say the tiny island of Bornholm.

@KirkDuyt, the one who used to be Emperor. Now he's allied to the Emperor instead. That said, as soon as he gets a male heir it's not impossible to see him on the throne again. He's got some strange claims going on, but he's also got some very targeted claims going on. @SilentWitness would do well to look over his shoulder. @KirkDuyt is not an expansionist so far, though. It's possible he's just waiting for someone to discover the new world, or maybe for the Reformation to shake up things in Europe. Alliances are going to get broken once that happens, by the way.

@P-Nut doesn't have the largest country, the strongest army, the largest navy or the highest income. What he does have is a very compact country of valuable provinces. He's also got some very solid allies, though he hasn't needed them yet. It also has to be said that two of his allies positively hate each other (@VeevaVee and @Andycoleno9), so he might end up with one against the other at some point anyway. He's got some very strong internal ideas, and is tied for the most advanced technology (with @Organic Potatoes, @altodevil and @Vidyoyo; coincidentally three others who haven't done a lot of warring. Makes you think, doesn't it?)

Finally we've come to @V.O., also known as the sole reason Switzerland hasn't been conquered yet. He's not done a lot of fighting, though there are at least a few claims in @Andycoleno9 to work with. In addition to Ulm and Switzerland, he's got a very solid ally in @adexkola. With the humanist idea group he's also pretty well set for the Reformation, which could very well weaken some countries to his benefit. He's not currently ruled by a Glazer, young Günther Glazer being just 8 years old. Stella von Haunsperger is a pretty good ruler name anyway.
